The App Store app show 4-5 weeks for Apple Pencil. Best Buy, Staples, B&H show coming soon or out of stock.

Has anyone called a store or asked in the store? What did they say? Where was the store?

I found this on Staples:

Let's just hope that someone really vocal in the media tries to get one. Bad press will do it.

I'm not calling the clueless or braving mall crowds and parking for nothing.

It's not that big of a deal, but hey, it's annoying as hell. :D
Stock market do it for us

I think the floodgates will open for the keyboard and pencil. Hard to say what the holdup is but Apple may not have expected a big demand for the Pro so didn't see many running around trying to find these accessories.

The Pro was released just this week, if we go much further out without those accesories then Apple risks some returns out of frustration. Are you listening, Apple?

There are 5 Apple stores in my state and none of them have 128GB models or any accessories in stock. No 128GB models at Best Buy stores either. So either supply is extremely limited or this device is more popular than Apple expected or both.

Just got my Pencil out of sheer luck. The store was the Philadelphia center city store. Here's what I learned:

- When you call a store number from the website, you reach a call center, not a store. Sometimes, depending who you get, they'll call the store directly and can check stock. But if they don't call the store, then they don't know if there's stock or not.
- The reason they don't know is because they seem to use the same system we have, which is the checkout system on the site. It only lists pencils as shipping in a few weeks, even when they're in stock. Employees will recommend that you check the site, not knowing this detail.
- Stores don't always get shipments in before the store opens. I got mine at 11:30 AM, and the guy said they had just come off the truck literally 5 minutes beforehand.

So if you really want a pencil, just keep checking your local store at various times during the morning.

Also, the employee was very skeptical that they would have them, and had no idea that they even received any from shipments. She was as surprised as I was when she saw it was in stock!

Very good to know, that explains how wildly different the responses are. None of them were able to tell me if they got any in, which make sense. Since they aren't even at that store.

No stock this morning at Bellevue Square. Employees are still advising customers to order for pickup via the website; all have been pretty surprised to discover that's not actually an option! There were still a few Smart Keyboards available before I left, though.

I'm in NYC. Called Apple this morning and was told the 5th Avenue flagship store had the Pencil in stock, but they couldn't confirm exact inventory. Instead, they transferred me directly to that store so I could get some details. However, it was around noon and, again, we're talking about the flagship store, so nobody picked up. I decided to try my luck walking in and... they were out of stock. I was told they received 5 Pencils in the morning, but sold them all quickly. I really didn't expect to get it so I wasn't too disappointed.

However, one interesting bit of news. I stopped by a popular Apple seller in NYC called Tekserve, and they told me that, even though they had no Pencils, they were informed "by Apple" that everyone would be getting stock of Pencils next week, "probably Monday."

Guess we'll see about that.

They keep recommending I order for pickup and every time I have to insist that I can't.

I really wish we could just check the stock online, imagine how many phone calls and time that would save their employees even.

I bought a silver 128 Pro in Aberdeen this afternoon. I had a chat with couple of assistants and they said they have never had any stock of pencils or keyboards in the store. They have 4 demo pencils and about 6 Different Pros on the display tables. They have no idea when they are getting them in. Regarding Pro stock they had only 1 silver and 1 gold at 128 and a space gray but a cellular, they said stock has always been very limited.
He was asking me if I had heard anything on the rumours boards as to what could have been causing this shortage!
So far love the Pro, but its a bit sad about not having Pencil, its a big part of the functionality.

I did get some insight and it is true that if you call the apple store, you will get a representative from the central location but that person is dedicated to that store. But the information they have is based on the ability for the apple personell to update their systems with the correct information. If they dont have that then they won't know. Also they have also told me that the Apple Pencil was actually not suppose to go on sale yet, and they been instructed from the start that pencil would initially be a webpage only sale - they were not aware they were in the stores.

I asked about 5 people about this and that's what they said. I was going to wake up early to go to all these stores to see them but i feel like i'm waisting my time.especially at 3:30PM.

I also checked those Ebay listings, - its really BS. They want 200 to 300 bucks but they can't ship until December 8th. They can go and shove it.

I can FOR A FACT tell you that what you are describing is out right FALSE. I have been to the apple store and have confirmed that my store actually got 8 pencils on Friday. It was sold out within a hour.

So basically:
  • Calling them will not help because the guy on the phone is told to read the script
  • The Pencil is INDEED on sale
  • The store won't know how many they get on each shipment if at all
  • Your best bet is to go to the store every day before the shipment arrives (I have been told my store's shipment comes at 12)

Even if you know about when a shipment arrives it's still a matter of luck to some degree. On top of that who has the time to troll the stores for most of the morning. I've called in the morning but that's the extent for me.

That's how I got 2 because I just went into the store in the morning.

I picked up "the last one" from Dadeland in Miami, FL through the Business Team. My sources on the inside tell me they've been getting some but the business team have been hoarding them for business customers and purposefully keeping them outside of sellable inventory so the general public can't purchase them.
