Some amazing artwork on this thread. I've been having a go again (LEGO again, can't help myself). The pencil is just so good. Recommend procreate!

Interesting. I haven't noticed that, but my only reference is my Intuous 4, so who knows. I did have to adjust the pressure curve a bit, as well. Feel free to update if you feel like that screen protector helps. :) I'm thinking of that or a tempered glass one.
I think they are using smoothing on the pressure curve. I would prefer the software register my marks.

They definitely are using considerable smoothing--Atomic Walrus here on the forums has done a lot of research into the issues that are plaguing quite a number of these Pencil-supported apps, and the problems do appear to be software-related, at least. So hopefully fixes will be forthcoming at some point! Hopefully sooner rather than later, as I think some of us are a little frustrated about not having had experiences that have lived up to the hype… :(

I do think it's mostly those of us who are coming from Cintiqs who are really noticing the issues, since the initial activation force on more recent-issue Cintiqs is so low and the pressure curve is extremely responsive. Pencil's shortcomings also aren't as noticeable when using dry media analogs (pencils, pastels, etc.), since those tools typically use pressure to determine opacity, not brush size. I can have a pretty good experience using pencil tools in almost any supported app so far, but things start to break down quickly when ink or paint is applied.

No sketches of my own to share on this thread yet, but I am enjoying seeing what's been posted so far--hope to contribute pretty soon! :D

I adjusted the pressure curve and brush behavior as well in Procreate. The only downside so far is the iPad screen surface. It's not as good as drawing on paper. Is there a screen protector that can emulate this paper feeling?

Here is my last drawing. I struggle with the coloring and shading.

Edit:
Refined the shading

I find that a matte plastic screen protector works very well to simulate the drag of paper.

i got this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016B12TSW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

it made a world of difference for me. it does lower the screen quality a bit. gives it a Vaseline look. my cintiq companion has a similar feel and look. its a trade off, but im only using this for art. so i like it.

You could order a photodon matte test pack and try out the various models they have. you might find one with better clarity and good enough friction.

I also get less of the palm rejection bug with the screen protector on.

Some of these are amazing!

Honest question from a non iPad Pro owner/non artist. Before anyone gets all defensive and accuses me of having an agenda, just know that I don't.

That being said, as an artist, what are the benefits of drawing on an iPad versus paper? Don't you miss the tangible creation of your art on paper? Or are you willing to sacrifice that for the benefits of editing and sharing?

Or am I totally off base with all my assumptions?

Paper always will have a special place in my heart but the iPad Pro has so many advantages. Besides the forgiving nature of digital work there are these:

1) Unlimited drawing tools that cost no more than the original investment. Paper costs a lot if you get the good stuff and so does paint, chalk, pencils, etc.

2) No worries about having a drawing scan poorly or photograph wrong. Digital will always look the same (colors may vary monitor to monitor or with printing but can be fixed).

3) You can work anywhere! An iPad Pro weighs less than a box of art tools and there's no cleanup necessary. I can work outside and sketch people without having to worry about the wind blowing my stuff away (happens all too often).

So yeah paper is amazingly personal but the iPad and Pencil offer too much to ignore. ^_^

So far I have only been using the Pencil from 53 ( Pencil is coming by mail in a week or two) but even with that I'm super happy with the iPad Pro and Procreate. Can I post some stuff here or should I wait until I have the Apple Pencil? Don't want to break the rules :).

I'm not sure there are any rules (which I'm glad of since many here can really draw while people like me just hack at it)

Lol.. Reading this makes me wish I were an artist so the iPad Pro could revolutionize my work flow!

Which brush are you using in Procreate? Your line quality/variation looks great.

I'm using the gel pen inks with the pressure sensitivity adjusted(it's really a matter of trail and error to find a setting that works for your strokes). I also payed around with the stroke width.

The funny thing about art is that it's totally subjective. I'm nowhere near pro but I get more joy out of drawing and painting than I could ever explain. Even the "worst" artist can improve to an impressive level. It just depends how much time and effort you want to put into it.

I have a feeling the iPad Pro will inspire a lot more digital art for newcomers since people are much more likely to buy an iPad Pro and Pencil than say a $2000+ Cintiq. We are definitely living in a golden age of tech and art though :)

I love that your drawings are both sketchy looking and also geometrically true to the original LEGO shapes. That's not easy to pull off! Unikitty for the win ^_^.
