Started off as a possible full face attempt but became an eye. That is fine.

Based on right eye from this screenshot. IMG_0178.jpg

And just did this one, left eye.

Need more drawings here. Would be even nicer to have this as a sticky! Can't wait to see more

Yes I agree! I really enjoy seeing the different drawings and paintings people are doing and think this thread should be stickied.

Really great talent & creativity on show. I’m quite surprised Apple hasn’t made an ad showcasing the iPad Pro and Apple Pencils capabilities in a similar way to the ‘shot on iPhone’ ad campaign.

In addition to this thread, I think it would be great to have a drawing game thread which could help encourage all levels of creativity and talent to join in. Something along the lines of a monthly theme or maybe a starting image/drawing with just a few lines, shapes or patterns and then everyone can complete the image in their own way. Anything from a simple doodle to a sketch to an elaborate drawing or painting, with the idea of having fun and getting people participating.

I like the idea of this but not really sure how to get the ball rolling. If anyone likes the idea and can pull it off I think it would be another great way to get people creative and sharing their results, especially those who might need some extra encouragement to get started or not feel as comfortable sharing their work.

That's a really good idea! I haven't managed to work out how to upload screenshots/pictures myself as it always says the files are too big. I really enjoy looking at everyone's work though - some of you look like you must be professional artists though.

Kazmac: I've really enjoyed following your progress. You've really got the eyes down well. I think they don't look like the pictures exactly, but somehow better -as in you may be developing your own style, rather than just being a copier.

I want to see more drawings too: others inspire me to keep going and trying. Just the talk about layers pushed me to try that in Procreate. :)

I appreciate seeing more: for the talents, the skill, the beautiful imagery and color palettes.

Drawing games, yes that sounds fun.

@wib - thanks. I would like them to be exact, but with a little over a month of sketching I know it will take some time. :) I appreciate what you said. My own style too? I can roll with that. EDIT; If you have a way of reducing the file size you can upload them. Hope to see them soon.

Working on my first... it's not good at all, but it's start.

That is a pretty good first try!
Now in Procreate, you can add a new layer on this and work on shading and another layer for texturing!

I also agree about the idea of creating drawing games, that would be great!
I remember several years ago when I was spending a lot of time on graphic design forums, we had a lot of these threads and it was fun.

Thank you. Next time I work on something I'll try to capture a little video. I basically use the "Gel Pen" brush in Procreate, normally on the smallest brush size (1.0%). For larger background areas I'll use a larger brush.

I definitely use layers. It's the single most valuable asset to digital art. One tip I can give you if you're working in black and white, use the opacity tool (on the layer, not the brush) to control your values. In other words, draw in all black, then use the opacity tool to control your values. So I'll basically start from the darks first and work up from there.

The iPad Pro has been an amazing tool. I can simply zoom in so far on the specific section on working on. Not only that, I can erase when I mess up! Something I cannot do when cross-hatching with tradional pens. The 2nd Gen iPad Pro has much improved latency - I noticed it instantly.
Thank you for sharing your experience of drawing on the iPad with Procreate. I just bought a gently used iPad Pro 9.7" for 2 reasons:
  • to save money by buying it instead of replacing my failing Macbook Pro (I have an iMac also)
  • because I like the idea that I can sketch with it (will be getting the pencil + Procreate soon)
After reading your comment about latency in the 2nd generation iPad, I'm hoping I've not made a mistake by this purchase. Would you please elaborate a bit comparing the 2 iPads in your drawing/painting processes?

This thread should serve as proof the first generation pros are great creative machines. The pre-June, 2017 artwork in this thread didn't get worse with the introduction of the new models. :)

I don’t think you made a mistake, the latency doesn’t really make much of a practical difference from what I’ve tried (my experience of the newer model is only in Apple stores), more of a visual/feel one you adjust for. In many situations my Wacom Cintiq has waaay more latency than the 9.7 iPad Pro, and that’s still great to use. The difference on the new ones is more to do with the crazy 2x screen refresh rate - unless you’re using giant complex brushes and canvas sizes or something the cpu/power difference isn’t going to do much.

I guess the difference between them will depend largely on art style and how many layers and stuff you need though?

\yeah the new ones are nice but i cannt say they improved my drawing experience much. i could make exactly the same art on a gen 1 ipad pro. the difference while nice - does not improve the drawing experience fundamentally.

I've yet to notice the difference between 9.7" Pro and 10.5" Pro and I use mine to draw/write all the time.
