For me as a consumer this does not make any sense at all. I could not care less if it's 10 years since the first iPhone was released.

I want the best phone I can get today - and with todays tough competition in the phone market Apple can't afford releasing an iPhone 6SS. It just does not make any sense.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense but I'm over the denial stage. I went ahead and bought a mint 6S+ for 35% off retail price and will wait and see what this 2017 iPhone brings. I would have waited till September to get a cheaper price on a used 6S, but I thought there might not be many 6S sellers once they see that the iPhone 7 is a glorified 6SS and they'll have no incentive to sell.

As a consumer, you SHOULD care. It's their anniversary.
Exactly; its THEIR anniversary. Make your employees cake, throw them a party and give them 10th anniversary iPhone cases - don't release a "lesser" phone because you are holding back features for the release of the anniversary model. Noone but Apple themselves care about that stuff.

So in October I'm gonna replace my iPhone 5s with a new iPhone. According to my computations,I should b able to buy the 6s plus 64 GB in the same price as 7 16 GB. Coming from 5s,I really want the bigger screen and the more Gigabytes. However I'm concerned about future-proofness and the lack of changes to justify the loss of gigas. What should I do?

The 6s plus would be a huge upgrade coming from the 5s. From what we know right know (and what your needs are), I don't think paying more $ for the 7 is worth it. You can buy the 6s and then upgrade in 2017 when, based on current rumors, it seems like there will be massive updates done to the iPhone.

I think my 6s plus will match the price of the base storage iPhone 7. Also due to budget i dont think i cna buy another phone in the next year. What i buy now will stay for a good 2 years' time

You need to wait until the iPhone 7 is announced to make a good decision. If they do with the iPhone what they did with the 9.7 iPad Pro, they could potentially make the base model 32gb, but increase the price by $100, which sounds crazy, but it has the precedent of the iPad Pro. If this happens it might change your assessment.

That's a parameter I hadn't thought of .In that case. Will just go with the cut off 6s Plus. Thank you sir.

Yet provided that they keep the 16GB base (unlikely I guess),what should I do?:|

For me personally, I think a 16gb device is not worth even considering. I like to have the peace of mind that I can install apps and take videos freely without having to worry about running out of space. If its between a 16gb iPhone 7 or a 6s I'd chose the 6s. If I really like the features of the 7, I would save up more to get a higher capacity phone (at least 32gb, if available). You mentioned you wanted to future proof and both the 6s and the 7 will last 3+ years easily, but I think a low capacity on any phone destroys that future proofing.

I see your point. Yeah the truth is that I'm coming from a 16 iPhone 5s and despite still having two gigs free,I know what anxiety you are talking about. Thank you very much, you 've helped me a lot

Why was it necessary to remove the headphone jack? Was it really that necessary??

Now, during a party (no music), you've got your fresh gigabyte of awesome music and wanna save the night. Oh wait! you don't have the damn adaptor.... party is crashed. Damn you Apple. - Typical life encounters.

You do know this year there will be no 16GB version of the phone 7. It will start at 32GB

After careful consideration, this is what I am going to do since my faithful iPhone 5 has been murdered thanks to one of those portable charging stations in the mall:

Come September, I will order the iPhone 6SE or whatever the new 2016 iPhone is going to be called. I hope it will come with at least 3GB of RAM since my 5 had 2GB and the last I heard the 6 series still had only 2GB.

Come 2017, I will dump my 2016 iPhone and sell it to get the 2017 model if it is significantly better. I don't have the luck to buy a new iPhone 6S off of Craigslist or ebay. I know, you can call me paranoid and distrustful. But considering I know several people who got scammed buying a phone from a non dealer, I don't want to be one of those folks.

The below poster said this best:
Anyone who knows anything about technology knows the iPhone 7 is the One To Skip. Some people have plenty of income and dropping $800 each year on a new phone is no big deal. And there are millions of people who know nothing about the technology business and will gobble up the iPhone 7.

I am budgeting for a new 2017 Hybrid car so Its an expense I need to skip.

Problem is this is a huge gamble for Apple. They have deliberately left the form factor and design untouched. It reminds me of a 1980's story article of a computer company whos CEO said at the launch of a new PC in 1980 wait til you see next years model its gonna be twice as good. Guess what no one bought the model they were launching and they went out of business before the next year.

That is Apples situation they won't go out of business but 2017 is the iPhones' 10 Year Anniversary and anyone who follows technology knows they are gonna come out with an OLED iPhone Pro and even some special 10th Anniversary Limited Editions with special engraving and Packing that will make people Crazy. These will re-sell for thousands on ebay. No one will care about the iPhone 7 from 2016

Everyone will want the 2017 10th Anniversary iPhone Pro. (So will I)

So my contract expires this month in January and was eyeing the galaxy s6 and iPhone 6s. BUT, I was wondering if I should wait for the iPhone 7 because I'm really not feeling the 6s because it's literally the same as the iPhone 6 (besides a few new features which I really don't care about). The only thing that's pulling me away from the new galaxy phone is it's abysmal battery life. So, should I wait another ~8-9 months for the iPhone 7? I have an android right now and am willing to switch over.
Since you waited this long, I buy the 6S after the 7 is release! It going be $100 cheaper!

Since it looks like Apple will announce a 7Pro iPhone that will have the same size display as the 7Plus, is it worth waiting and not buying a 6SPlus right now? I suppose the 7SPro will prolly be the same price as the 6SPlus right now... correct?

Price will only go higher. No doubt.
If you don't mind losing headphone jack then you can choose to wait. Otherwise, be a bit reluctant. 2017 iPhone might be more appealing.

What would be the equivalent to the headphone jack now that it will be discontinued in iphone7?

THIS. I can see why people would say 7...because it's new...for this year and 6s is last year. 6s has 4k recording ability, right? It would save people some money.

Firstly, I think you mean "may" release, not "will". Nothing is known for certain until Apple actually announces it.

Second, if you can wait about 6 weeks it makes no sense to buy a 6S+ now. It will likely be replaced by a better phone at the same price in just 6 weeks, and go down in price at least $100 at the same time.

Agreed. If you don't absolutely need a phone now, you should wait.

Too close not to wait

Agreed.

No. It depends where the OP is purchasing the 6s+ from. The 6s+ is already discounted over $100.00 at a lot of retailers, at least in the 16gb package, except for full retail on Apple's website. If you search, there are price cuts.

And when Apple does release the 'iPhone 7', it's rumored their may be three versions of the iPhone 7, 7+ and 7Pro. If the OP wants the 7Pro, it will be reportedly the most expensive iPhone in the line to date, not including the various storage tiers.
