Not as fancy as some of your setups, but I did get my desk mat today, and I really like it! I figured since I couldn’t commit to the blue iMac, I’d get the blue pad. ;-p

My picture is straight too!

Nice! ... curious: what does the silver iMac screen look like in dark mode? How did you fix that ... mini horse drag around the rotation of the picture? ;)

I really like your setup. Do you use your Sonos speakers to play music through the Sonos app, or are you using them as bluetooth speakers from your iMac? If the latter, do you find any lag? I was contemplating doing the same with a Mac mini and using them as bluetooth speakers, but am not sure if they have lag when watching movies or on zoom calls
The only Sonos speaker that won’t give you lag in movies is the play 5, has a data output and has to be plugged into a modem with a data cable, and then into the iMac headphone input, for music any speaker will be ok via the app.

you can see all the background colors on each of the iMacs by going to the desktop and screen saver tab in preferences.

Thank you! I forgot about that!
Wow! Where the swirls intersect you can get some pixel 'dispersion' color variation. Never looked closely but see it in the dark Hello Silver.

I honestly haven’t used it in dark mode - I’ll have to try it. And I did the exact same thing when posting the picture, but I did it from my phone. It just came up correctly - so odd.

Did you hold your phone In he same orientation - portrait/landscape? That always affect the way the photos appear in the Photos app. Of course, you can edit the photo In Photos to rotate it to have the correct orientation.

I have to say that the new iMac design does nothing for me. It certainly won't be a timeless classic like the original iMac or the "lamp" iMac. It looks cheap and plasticky. And yes I have seen them in the stores too. In my opinion the pastel shades was a mistake. Pastel belongs on your walls, not your computing equipment.
It looks cheap and plasticky yet the two iMacs you listed are literally plastic.

Anyways… No one cares. Go post in one of the iMac hate threads.

I think Apple is likely to be imitated even with their use of pastel colors. I think the front is all glass? Feels like one piece of glass to me.

After the initial success of the colourful G3s I don’t recall other manufacturers getting all colourful with their product. I’m not sure it will happen this time either. And remember after the G3s Apple did tone it down to everything being white and then the silver of the iMacs being currently phased out.

And it isn’t like other manufacturers haven’t offered colours besides black, grey and silver over the years. I’ve seen blues, reds and gold hues in laptops. Some gaming towers have been somewhat colourful.

It remains to be seen whether Apple’s explosion of colour is largely promotional to market the new generation of iMacs and MacBooks or if they’re in for the long haul.

Yep. I don't think anything is for long in the tech business. Silver does look a little premium. However, the colors make me feel more like being in the late 1960s again.

It's true, they didn't really set trends in the computer industry, but it was quite amazing to see the plethora of colourful objects that those iMacs spawned for use in the home - and to a lesser extent elsewhere. The design caught a lot of imagination.

I doubt it was Apple's intention to do much more with those systems than make a product statement, that the G3 iMac was not like any other computer, but was simple, fun, engaging and easy to use. Colour and form factor was a lot of how they chose to do that. Once they succeeded, they didn't exactly go back to normal though - the Ice/SnowBook laptops and the G4 iMac were quite radical, even if white rather than multi-coloured.

Yeah, the all white was still standout in a sea of black and grey. Apple makes a point of looking distinct. Even the concept of an AIO took awhile before other manufacturers began offering their own versions. Even so the AIO still seems owned by Apple and PC versions look like an afterthought. With laptops getting ever more capable it seems most people go that route and connect to a monitor if they want a bigger display. Desktop towers are really becoming an afterthought except for diehards and a few having specific requirements.

It is sometimes a bit of a joke when a customer asks to see what we have in computers and I ask what kind, in what form? They usually mean a desktop until I clarify they’re all computers just in different configurations, just as everything on the road is an automobile only we categorize them with different names.

I wonder if Apple will even go back to the sunflower design for the bigger iMac? ... or, maybe they will stay with the thin design but more aggressively decrease operating frequencies with the increasing number of CPU and GPU cores? A colorful sunflower?? With an adjustable green stem!

I think the current design as introduced with the 24 is a lock for awhile. I think it most likely the forthcoming bigger iMac will really be just a bigger version of the 24 and with different specs.

Nice! The blue pad has got a lot of space. Sometimes I think the the silver Mac is less distracting ... maybe that was the way I should have gone? If I get bored with the green I may trade for another color. It's like trading in cars for another color ... except much cheaper!
