I too chose silver. At the Apple Store, we really liked blue. However, we will be doing apartment renovation in the next three months, including painting. Since we have not yet selected colors, we felt silver was safest.
You should first buy the iMac, then select the colours based on that. Not the other way round ;)

Useful info:
  • Potential iMac buyers were asked to pick their preferred color option for their device, and the responses were – in order of votes received: Blue – 33.4%, Silver – 30.1%, Green – 13.4%, Purple – 8.9%, Yellow – 6.8%, Pink – 4.1%, Orange – 3.3%
I'm in 3rd! Actually, I did like orange and then more so the yellow (back looked like gold!) ... but those two and purple only came by upgrading ... I wanted to buy the base model so really I just had a choice of those first three 'colors' & pink. Almost went with silver, then at the last moment I chose hospital pastel/emerald city.

The distribution of color preferences is very much expected. Similar to how people choose car colors (for the few brands that still make interesting color options).

I sort of go back and forth on all the colors ... thought it was a big decision but when I am actually using the computer everything disappears. Initially, I was thinking blue -> yellow -> purple, then silver (more of a match to the mini), but then I selected green. The green sort of pays tribute to the workers in the hospitals with their pastel green.

The green is probably the most tolerable for me, although it still reminds me too much of a dentist's office. Some people are pointing out that the original iMacs were also brightly coloured. Whilst true, the only bits you could actually see when using one were the speaker grilles.

I wish Apple had gone with the soft textured white material surrounding the screen of the "lamp" iMacs. That was perfection in my opinion.

Maybe ... don't really know ... once you get into colors then each person's perception is different. I think it is great we have color again but can you imagine all the manufacturing issues and combinations of memory, etc.? Their production matrix must be amazing. And then you see people changing their minds cancelling orders and going with a different color. Mind boggling. And Apple is carrying this off worldwide with all the different issues.

Initially my exact reaction was "Never Ever". Then I saw the unboxing videos and was sold; my color choices in order of preference were- Blue-Orange-Yellow, then I had a totally different perspective on the Green (Eco-Friendly) briefly:). Eventually Orange & Yellow took the podium 😁, however the faded peach shade on the chin Apple proudly labelled orange killed it for me.

As for the pink, purple & silver, they were never considered but looked nice in all the pictures

Haha ... dentist office. The dentist and everyone at the office I go to wear different colors to not scare children.

Not a fan of the Magic keyboard? Here's an alternative I got for use with my blue....

It's wired (as you can see), brown switch mechanical with white and light blue keys, and white backlight. Grey aluminum base plate, so nice and sturdy. Aside from the fact the instruction leaflet for controlling the lighting effects is in Chinese, and there's no English translation, it's excellent (and available in black and pink too).

Is this a gaming keyboard ?

My son has one similar - it has glowing keycaps and different key letters...

Nice .. that has articulation ... deepness ... still I like shallow keys ... Magic ... but I do wish they had a backlit Magic keyboard.

It is a gaming keyboard, yes. Not that I play games at all, but I am very fussy over keyboards, and mechanical ones help my typing accuracy. This one is similar in feel and action to an NEC keyboard I used and liked a lot back in 1987!

For some reason I loved the butterfly keyboard instead. The lesser the button moves, the better. It also had a nice tippity sound. Shame about the fussiness with debris.

Updated mine with another Sonos One for stereo.

I really like your setup. Do you use your Sonos speakers to play music through the Sonos app, or are you using them as bluetooth speakers from your iMac? If the latter, do you find any lag? I was contemplating doing the same with a Mac mini and using them as bluetooth speakers, but am not sure if they have lag when watching movies or on zoom calls

I know it's not the same level of quality, but I had two Echos setup in stereo and it was bit of a hassle to make them work every time. Sound was good, but actually they sounded different, one with more bass and the other with clearer treble. I think I would just prefer two wired or simple BT speakers instead. But I will be ok with the built in speakers.
