I had to re-arrange things since one of my DP to DVI adapters died. Got the new one today and the plan was to put the MP back up on the 'desk' (to make it easier to get behind the Mac).

Here you go…

The Mac you DON'T see is the Mini, which is directly behind the work MBP on the right and underneath the Thinkpad.

So here's my small collection of early Intels... I used to have more but recently decided to only keep those I have a genuine use for and thus sold a couple.

earlyintel.JPG

From left to right:
  1. Mac mini (2006) with an elusive 2.33 GHz Core Duo T2700, 2 GB RAM and some crappy old HD. "Naked" because I plan to torture some wacky CPUs in that thing (Celeron M anyone?) and put in an SSD. IIRC it has Tiger, Snow Leopard and Lion (which I'll have to patch in order to take to 32-bit CPUs) on it.
  2. MacBook Air 11" (2010) with a 1.4 GHz Core 2 Duo SU9400, 2 GB RAM and a 64 GB Toshiba SSD. Bought new in October 2010 right after it came out and still going strong on its original battery. Running Snow Leopard. Air-gapped and usually picked when I want a small and light distraction-free writing environment.
  3. MacBook Pro 15" (2007) with a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo T7500, 4 GB RAM and a 250 GB Crucial SSD. Glossy LED display and, fortunately, a revised GPU. This is my go-to Tiger, Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion machine. It also runs El Capitan 'cause it can but randomly freezes under that installation so I have to trouble-shoot at some point if I can be bothered to.
  4. MacBook (2008) with a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo T8300, 2 GB RAM. A true beater (warped and yellowed case, horribly yellow screen, shot battery and optical drive). No idea what OS is on it right now or if it even has a HD inside. It used to be my eGPU testing machine but the 2007 MBP has taken that place. No idea what I'm going to use it for; I'm strongly considering getting rid of it to be honest.

In the lineup:
IMG_9756.jpeg

Macintosh (pre-"128k" branding, with 1983 serial number - just managed to score a 1983-manufacture logic board to replace the 512k logic board it had been upgraded with long ago.)
Power Macintosh 7100/66 (First PowerPC Mac. With matching HDI-45 display.)
iMac G4 17" (Representative "Mac OS X only" Mac.)
iMac Core Duo (First Intel Mac.)
Mac mini M1 (First Apple Silicon Mac. With third party display, keyboard, and mouse, per Apple's suggestion for the mini.)

And yes, the lighting is intentional - "yellower" to the left with the beige/yellower systems, "bluer" to the right with the white systems.

My Early 2008 White MacBook - has a brand new OEM Apple battery in it, can get more than 5 hrs on a charge. Still surprising usable on OS X 10.8.5 with Firefox Legacy (if anyone has a Safari WebKit fork for 10.8, please let me know -I’d much rather use that). In immaculate physical condition. 2.1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD.

That needs to run System 7.1.2.

That needs to run Tiger 10.4.4.

:)

The 7100 is running 7.1.2. I think the iMac is running Leopard just because when I retired it from regular use, it was running that, and I have misplaced my original install discs. (I have the ones for my launch-day-purchase MacBook Pro, and for my Core 2 Duo white iMac; but not the Core Duo iMac.)

Thanks! It was my daily for years, and had the palmist and display bezel replaced numerous times under warranty / service campaigns.
I upgraded to a rMBP in 2012, so I had the palm rest replaced one last time around then and then transitioned it to backup duty. The outer casing is cracked all along the fan outlet at the bottom. Heat expansion, I guess. It’s my first Mac, so quite sentimental, hence the new battery!

Wish I could get Tiger on it - unfortunately it’s not compatible with the X3100 GPU from what I understand...

You can run Tiger on the Early 2008 MacBook. I did it on mine. It will run but lack any graphics acceleration (Core Image/Quartz Extreme). I also ran Tiger on my Early 2008 (original) MacBook Air. Same deal but in a much nicer and more lightweight package. :)

A1083, Late 2005 model. 30" Cinema Display, 2560 x 1600.

Just returned from a trip to Scottsdale for this monitor. Saw it on craigslist yesterday and snapped it up right away.

I paid $100!

More later once I'm off work and get this hooked up.

Awesome deal! Excited to see how it'll fit into your setup! I want a 30" but it wouldn't fit on my desk.

I'm going to have to pull the desk forward and drop something in behind for it to sit on so the display is lowered I think. Haven't sized it yet, but I do believe the top of the display is going to run above the bottom of the HDTV.

Will be putting it together later tonight so we'll see what I have to do.

Truly fortunate though. The ad was on craigslist for 8 days. The seller wanted $125, but was open to best offers. Took my offer of $100 right away. Hell, the powerbrick is worth $125 by itself!

I think, maybe because the display wasn't Thunderbolt and that the seller needed it to be picked up at his home were probably why it didn't sell fast. He kept wanting to make sure I had the right kind of Mac for it so I'm guessing he might have had a few buyers stop by that passed on it when they got there.

Anyway, mine now. :D

Congrats on that bad boy Erik! :) Fortunately your GPUs have dual-link DVI so you can plug it straight in without having to complicate matters with adapters.

As for the size, I went from 27" (2560×1440) to a 24" "4K" that I run at 2560×1440 HiDPI (so can fit the same amount of stuff as on my previous monitor) and am mostly happy with the reduction in desk footprint but would sometimes like to give a 27" a try again. 30" on the other hand... that's TV size :D

Yeah, it's two inches shy of a 32" HDTV. :) I can remember visiting Fry's Electronics when my kids were little and Lion was new. I would have loved to walk out with one of those at the time and now I have one.

From all I can tell, it's in perfect condition. The guy I got it from wanted the later Cinema Display that has an iSight in it, so this one was purchased in error. Which is why I guess he was trying to get as much for it as he could. Based on the little interaction I had with the guy it seems he really takes care of his Apple stuff.

I've always wanted larger monitors, and now this starts. I have the Cinema and Studio Displays I currently have because at the time I wanted to keep them period with the G4 Quicksilver. But now that the MP is the third metal box I've had (2.3DC and Quad before that) I'm after these displays now.

This was literally, a quick craigslist search that returned exactly one item - this one. God was very good to me yesterday, but of course He's good all the time. :)

Allright guys, here we are.

The first thing you are going to notice is that I have lost two monitors. This was deliberate. At a certain point it just became obvious that with what I had to work with there was no physical way to make six work. The new CD takes up such a large footprint that unless I inconvenience everyone else in the house, and piss of my wife to boot, by placing furniture in the middle of the living room this just isn't possible.

I'm okay with that. I've been in a mindset of change regarding my displays recently and the reality for me is that this 30" is so large that it essentially compensates for the loss. The upshot is that all of a sudden I have a lost more desk space in front of me.

Anyway…here you are…
