Yeah their servers must be getting hammered.
You know that makes me wonder how this streaming works.
Is the app just referencing the music file then handing off the connection to the remote machine? Like napster did? Or is music actually going through their server? Which is doubtful. If it is just passing off then why some people complaing about quality? It's streaming what you ripped Anyway I wish we could just bypass this whole centralized login server and just type in our own address. I'm pretty sure they did it this way for non-techies (by reading some of these post they were right.) Also they will be selling our information to companies. I agree that they need to make a buck but give me my standalone app which I would gladly pay for. Just call me old school.

I would assume that they didn't have us login for nothing.

wow! amazing thread. sorry I don't have time for longer post, but for folks waiting for all of their songs lo be index, let it run. Reset starts the process over. once the scan is complete, files lists are cached.

one other point. your song lists don't hit our servers. scan time is a function of the size of your library, not our network activity.

does itunes pref have show "share your libraries"?
the set up instructions so not indicate that.

Hi Paul,

Thanks again for this incredible app. I have set it to scan a folder of only 5 mp3s and it has been scanning for over 10 minutes.

Are you sure the servers are working? Great working punching holes through NATs, its pretty incredible work all around.

I still can't get it to work on my phone, no matter what I try. Working great on the computer, though.

I sent in a bug report through the app, and received a reply from the creator and a developer with 30 minutes. Amazing level of customer support, seeing as I'm not technically a customer yet (free!).

@lunarmac, our servers do two things: maintain your friend list (IM-style) and provide a meeting point so your computers can connect behind firewalls (skype-style). once the connection is made, we drop out. we take privacy very seriously and encrypt all computer-to-computer traffic for your security.

obviously, our traffic is way up today -- and we couldn't be happier. the part that is getting hammered, though, is our email queue. we are discovering lots of things we could have explained better.

for everyone, thanks for all of the feedback and support! we really appreciate it.

Thanks for your info. but I tried to have simplify media to scan a folder with only 10 songs (Mac), but it's still taking forever.

Is there any problem with asian characters (on Mac)?

btw: Simplify Media seems to be working perfectly on my Windows machine.

Paul,

People that have already scanned can connect just fine, I think there is a problem uploading new song lists to your servers.

It jsut stalls on scanning.

Thanks again

@dcwckd, can you use the Report Issue option to send us diagnostics and we'll take a look? just to be clear, your song lists move between the computers you authorize, not to our servers.

Sure, just sent it in. It was working all day (showing an amount of files shared, and just died a few hours ago on all of my machines). Same with most of my friends.

I love this app.

Are you nuts!?!

I mean I love this app and it definitely fills a gap and it's great that the devs come here and post but . . . If Apple ever does this we would have better GUI controls/features because they can have direct access to parts of the iPhone that the SDK does not allow. Mainly background play and the music player that can be controlled by the headphones, scrubbing, etc.

But in the meantime keep up the good work SM.

Great work Paul. Thanks for the great app. Don't let apple take it over.

Bug?

Well I used the app this afternoon and it worked great! Now, not so good. My entire library remains, but anytime I try to play a song it just buffers and never finds the song. Also, my "friend" is online for a couple of hours but it says "offline" next to his name and will connect to his library... Any ideas folks?

Stuck in the scanning loop here, too. I'll try again tomorrow.

Paul- Thanks again for the email, and the help from Yavor. Thanks for the posts in this thread, as well. Good to see someone stand behind their product.

While SimplifyMedia is "scanning libraries" I checked in Lbirary/Application Support/Simplify Media and my server database file is 300MB and growing. The file has never been over 50MB.

Does anybody know whether Simplify streams the files in their original format, or are they converted for saving bandwidth? Streaming Apple Lossless files would certainly be a pain...

@dcwckd, lunarmac, et al your analysis was helpful and it explains why we missed the new user connection problem with our monitoring. everything should be back to normal again. sorry for the inconvenience.

Twenty-thirty minutes ago, I checked the application and that time it worked.

I went away, came back, and now it's stuck on "scanning libraries..." again.

Can you please help?

Just started to use it again late this evening on my iPhone but it wouldn't load. Checked the iMac and its on Scanning Libraries for awhile now. It was listed there before, so not sure why it started to scan sequence again.... I guess let it run or hit the reset?

Still stuck on 'scanning libraries'. Oh well. At least I got in for free. Seems like it should be fixed and up & running again soon.

Just got an email from the support team... they said to restart the app. I did and am happy to report that my app is now back up and running.
