We are six months away from new iPhones, including the introduction of two new models - the 6.1" LCD (call it the iPhone 9 for now) and the 6.5" OLED (call it the XS Plus for now). I feel like the purchasing decision this year is more difficult than ever. I have an iPhone 8+ now, but I am bumping up against my storage limit. I really need 256G. A 256G "10S Plus" will likely cost $1,400 or more, and I frankly don't know if I want to spend that, especially given I will likely be spending $1,500 on an updated iPad Pro in a couple of months. The LCD iPhone is really intriguing, but I can't go back to a non-dual camera. My best option may be to get an X or another 8+ now at 256G and wait for another year.

What are you guys thinking?

Poll is flawed... I am sure of myself that I am keeping my 7. There is no need to waste money and upgrade unless apple comes out with something cutting edge which I doubt.

What's this "raise to wake stuff" with Apple Pay? YOU DON"T NEED TO WAKE UP THE PHONE TO USE APPLE PAY.

With my iPhone 6, I just pick up the phone, move it to near the terminal and it wakes up automatically. With my thumb already on the Touch ID, it records the purchase. ONE STEP. No looking at the phone, no swiping up, no double tapping this or that. It just works in one smooth continuous motion.
I know you don't need wake any phone to use Apple Pay. Maybe I just worded it poorly. I'm not arguing Face ID vs Touch ID it is off topic and has been argued to death already. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Of course you need to wake the X to use Apple Pay - from Apple Support -

Pay with iPhone X

To use your default card, double-click the side button, then glance at iPhone X to authenticate with FaceID or enter your passcode.

THAT's a two-step process - the ergonomics of the X are way less efficient than TouchID.

No you don't. When you hold your phone up to the terminal it will auto wake / ask for Apple Pay verification, either with Face ID or Touch ID depending on phone. Face ID is a one step process, just look at your phone. Touch ID is also a one step process, touch the button.

NOPE ... your transaction ain't going anywhere until you double tap the X and wake it up with Face ID or wake up the X with Face ID then double tap the side button. That's a 2-step process if there ever was one.

I never double pressed the side button on my X when using Apple Pay, I'm almost certain.

Keeping my iPhone 7 as long as possible. It's paid for, it works great and I love the size of it. Prices of the new phones are beyond stupid, doubt I would upgrade to the latest and greatest even if my current phone was on it's last legs. I'd just go get a refurbished 7 or maybe even an SE. At least those prices are a little easier to stomach!

7 user. I don't like the size - I miss being able to use my phone one handed on the London Tube.

So SE2 if it's at least as good as the 7 (plus elements from the 8). Alas, I don't think that we'll be having an SE 2 w/ notch as rumoured (much as I'd love that).

Although I am interested to see what the 2018 'iPhone' (it's rumoured to be called just that) i.e. the LCD 8 sized iPhone w/ notch is going to be like.

I have the X and I plan on upgrading to the next "X model" but I don't think I want the plus. I love the size of the X and I don't have much need (or pocket space) for a bigger version of the X. I have an LTE iPad Pro for media content.

And you have to double click the home button to turn one Apple Pay on the iPhone from sleep, so what’s your point? Double click a button on one device or the other, not sure just looking at the phone really counts as you’ll be doing that anyway.

NOPE ... the double click is only IF you want to use a card different from your default card OTHERWISE - from Apple Support -

Pay with iPhone 8 or earlier

To use your default card, rest your finger on Touch ID and hold the top of your iPhone within a few centimeters of the contactless reader until you see Done and a checkmark on the display.

Nope, I have to double click to activate Apple Pay full stop from sleep. No idea what you are on about.
Apple Pay only works with the card being shown on the screen and the ONLY way to get that from sleep is to double click the home button which does NOT always work, if I want to use my Apple Watch and Apple Pay I have to double click its button too.

Guessing by your account, Apple should rewrite the Apple Pay support page. The rest of us will just go with what they have up now - been using it just like Apple says for 2 years on 2 different devices.

Well in my phone settings you CANNOT set Apple Pay to activate every time you unlock your phone with one button press. So I fully stand by what I say, and that different countries have different security laws etc that could impact the settings:

I wouldn’t want to activate Apple Pay every single time I unlock my phone!

BUT you're NOT unlocking the phone to activate Apple Pay - as I said in Post #144

"My iPhone 7 is always locked - I have my thumb on the TouchID coming out of my pocket, hold it over the reader, and presto the transaction is complete - the screen goes black, the iPhone remains in the locked mode."

There's your problem - that TOGGLE is only there for ease of use if you are constantly changing the card you want to use - otherwise use Apple Pay JUST like the instructions show - there is NO double click needed for the default card - sheesh.

Nope your wrong with that assumption, as I stated repeatedly now, you can ONLY access Apple Pay from a locked iPhone by double clicking the home button, double clicking a power button on an X designed phone is the exact same. It is therefore a false analogy to claim one is any quicker over the other in real life use.
You may have different allowances in your country or maybe it’s an exclusive feature to solid state home buttons, and I still have to double click the button on my Apple Watch.

Just used AP at McDonald's, the process was as follows hold phone near reader a picture of default card appears then it asks for double click then you have to authentication with face Id. Touch id is much quicker I've had them both. I still prefer face id over touch though just my opinion.

Since the next phone is rumored to be less expensive, hopefully the X will come down drastically in price and might be a good pickup.

Drastically? Doubtful. It might see a decrease or reduction, but Apples pricing usually is not _drastic_ with any of their pricing tiers with the iPhones or other product line. Apple is usually very conservative when they do make price reductions, as they still are mindful of their profit margin’s.

I have a 7 Plus.
I don’t really know what to do know...
The “plus” phone is too big for me now...
So I’m waiting the new iPhone. if they’re not really different if the iPhone X, I will buy the X
