If there were to be a new SE I might be able to be convinced to upgrade. Otherwise I’m sticking with my 7+ until it dies. I can’t justify the cost anymore to upgrade regularly.

I am getting a November 2017 purchase second hand iPhone 8 64GB for $600. Is this good? Considering new is $900 retail? Have to purchase since I just gave my 7 to my father who was having issues with 1st gen Touch ID on 5s.

Or, do you folks suggest I wait out? Waiting means October-November at least, here in India.

US dollars? If so, that's terrible. A brand new one is $699, always has been since release day.

Oh yeah, US dollars. Super high pricing here this time around. So, I am getting a 5 month old phone for $600 against a new one for $900. Let's say you were to get a 5 month old iPhone 8 for about $500 instead of $700, would that be a good buy today or would you wait it out for 6-7 months more?

I don't understand what you're saying I guess.

What currency is your original post I quoted? US dollars, Canadian dollars, or what? A new iPhone 8 is not $900 USD in the US, it's $700.

I'm pretty sure what you are actually trying to say is your phone in whatever country you're in is the equivalent of $900 USD new and you are getting it used for $600, but I really have no idea because you said yes to your prices in post #102 being in USD, in which case the deal would be awful.

My bad, I was giving the price for an iPhone in my country, converted to USD. So, an iPhone 8 64GB retails for ₹ 60,900 here, which in USD is roughly $900. I am getting a 5 month old second hand device for $600, so a third of the retail price.

I have the 5S, recently I have tried the 8, it's quite fine but I'll make it until fall. Then I'll decide - it depends on what Apple release. I suppose I'll buy something at worst as big as the 8, I have tried the X and 8 Plus and it's just too large for me.

I used to upgrade every 2 years but when they released the iPhone 8 last year i struggled to justify it against my iPhone 6s depending on whats offered this year i may upgrade to a 7/8 unless this new model has something special

I think the model that will be sought after because it has a more agfordable price point will be the rumored 6.1 LCD iPhone with similar features to the current iPhone X. Consumers don’t want to pay exorbitant prices, but they still want to have a device that has some of the latest specifications. The 6.1 LCD iPhone might be the iPhone choice for many.

I was the kind of person that upgraded every year to the new iPhone but that didn't happen in 2017 and most likely won't happen in 2018 either. Currently very happy with my 7 Plus which I got for free because of a promo after trading in my 6S Plus. Unless the X2 or whatever its name is amazing and has truly new features, I think I'll still be holding on to my 7 plus a little bit longer.

ow common...Apple will release a new iPhone later this year and most people here who are now saying they will keep the their iPhone 8 (Plus) or iPhone X will eventually buy one shortly after the release.... like they do e v e r y
s i n g l e year.

it's a rinse and repeat every single year here at macrumors:

''no, I 'll keep my iPhone <insert number here> this year ''

a fews weeks (or shortly) after release new iPhone:

''anyone got their shipping info yet?"
''mine is in Kentucky right now, what about yours?"

:D
so true but funny..

A 6.5 phone seems as if it would be Ginormous at this point after owning a X (coming from an 8+) I think the X (for ME) is the perfect size as anything i cannot do on it I would do on an iPad or MacBook anyway. Also I'm about done with the AUP need to finally pay it off and have a year of no $45 payments.

Where is the option for 7 Plus users? I'm on a 7 Plus, and will upgrade to the largest screen sized X (whether they call it X Plus or whatever).

I returned my X because the screen was too narrow compared to my 7 Plus, and was not impressed by the picture quality. OLED was highly overrated. No difference compared to my 7 Plus' LED in 99% of situations. Only difference was blacks when turning the brightness to max, and maybe some slight color improvements.

Still no powermat available for the X...SMH. Powermat will be ready by the time the X Plus releases.

I normally skip a generation to get my subsidized iPhone but since that no longer exists I’ll probably trade in my X for whatever is next. I had a Plus sized phone before my X and I’m enjoying the size of the X a lot more and battery life is plenty good enough for me, so I’m not likely going to get the plus version if there is one.

At the end of the day nobody else cares what your phone looks like so if you’re happy with it that’s all that matters. Nobody will judge you for owning an iPhone that looks like the majority of other iPhones used throughout the world and the iPhone 8 will be a speedy device for at least the next 2 years.

I genuinely couldn’t give a crap what anyone else thinks. If someone wants to judge me or anyone else because of a phone then have at it.

I love my iPhone 8. Just as I loved my 6s before it. 5/4s/4/3GS before that.

Couldn't bring myself to upgrade to the X last year, but will definitely be doing so this year.

Still think the pricing is truly horrendous (I buy outright), but I've been quietly saving some money to allow me to upgrade from my 7 this year.

I'm usually a generation behind. I have an iPhone 7 Plus now, but will get the iPhone X in the Fall. I'm not going to get the iPhone 8 Plus, since I'm ready for a new design.

I might buy a new iPhone *if* they fully support Band 71, and *if* we don't get embroiled in a Qualcomm v. Intel controversy because one is clearly superior to the other. :)

We are four months away from new iPhones.

I will wait to see what the new SE and the new ‘cheaper’ 6.1” models are like and probably buy one.
Depending on if they are any good that is of course...
Currently leaning more towards the 6.1” so long as it has 3D Touch or similar as I can’t see the SE getting a full front screen, think that’s a pipe dream and the 4” one is too small for me.

If a new SE ever materializes, I may sell my X and downsize depending on what the specs are. I have been itching for a truly one-handed phone for the past few months. Otherwise, I’ll keep my X for at least another year. I’m already pretty over big phones, especially at the prices Apple has started charging for them. No way am I spending $1000 again this year.
