Ok, I just saw some awesome news on the front page. :D

THis is also a big FACE ( Ron and Fez reference XM 202 12:00pm-3:00pm ) to all the non-belivers in SlingMedia.

This is a quote off of sling media's page. I have posted the link below. :D
(And what else...

Oh yeah - we are in Apple's iPhone Developer Program, and have been for a while. Just so you know.)

The key here is hat they said they are in the Dev program, they hadnt been accepted the first time around, and the while thing means they will have a sling app out shortly in my opinion.

I'm not jailbroken. I'm part of the Beta Program that Apple allows developers to use before thier apps are released to the App Store.
What do you have to a part of to get access? I'm an iPhone App Developer. Should that provide the access to Orb?

Thanks

Where have you read that sling was not accepted into the dev program the first time around?

I follow all sling news and that is just a rumour that was started because no one heard any news from sling or apple.

People thought well no one is saying anything so that must mean they are doing nothing or apple rejected them.

Please do your research before posting an ignorant statement. :)

As a developer, Apple allows you to designate 200 seats for beta testing. In Orbs case, they picked 200 people from applications sent in. Orb collected the UDID of each phone, and had to send that to Apple. Apple maintains that list and only allows the program to run if the UDID is on file.

I hate to crash the party, and it's pure speculation, but I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that neither Orb nor Slingbox will get anywhere BUT the dev. program. Believe me, I'd be the first in line to download both of them but with newly released info. that Apple is working with AT&T to make the iphone compatible with AT&T's U-Verse, I honestly can't see anything good for either Sling or Orb. Streaming TV to the iphone = big money, and if it's not going into Apple's pocket (either directly or through AT&T's hands), they're not having it. U-Verse, from my understanding, would allow us to watch mobile TV BUT we have to buy a compatible box and subsribe to AT&T's service, which BTW is ~ $100/month...you see where I'm going with this.

#1. When.. and notice I said when, Sling is released to the app store, Apple will get 30% of every app sold. You are right it is going to be big money and Apple and sling will have profit from it. AT&T will benifit because of the sale of the unlimited data plan. all partys win. AT&T can not be the only person to offer this. that would be a monopoly and that is against the law.

#2. AT&T already offers mobiTV to other smartphones that they sell. and sling is also compatable with the phones as well. The customer has a choice.

#3. why would Apple waist thier time and money and sling and obs time and money if they were not going to go anywhere. Apple is smarter than that. Apple is fully aware of what sling and orb are and do as companies. If you are not going to do any research and are just going to troll the boards please leave.

Sling WILL come to the iphone and I will be watching tv on my iphone soon enough. you can go ahead and get your U-Verse and download the app, but you will be kicking yourself later saying "I should have waited for the iphone :("

If they take that approach....you could easily say LAWSUIT! Neither company wants to end up like Microsoft, labeled a monopoly. AT&T already offers their U-Verse service on many other hand helds, as well as allows the windows mobile ones to run slingbox and Orb. Just because they have a competing product, doesn't mean they are going to keep it out of the App store. As a person who's already dropped 200bux on Slingbox hardware, I'll be damned if I'm going to go spend another 100+ to buy AT&T product. ESPECIALLY if they don't allow me to use my Slingbox hardware. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot.

good looking out kid,

Did you see on the slingmedia site where they said they were in the apple dev program?

...AT&T can not be the only person to offer this. that would be a monopoly and that is against the law.

Against the law? First, it is not a monopoly. You are not being forced to buy the iphone, let alone sign up for service with ATT. They are not the only game in town. If you want streamed TV, get another phone that has windows mobile or Palm OS on it and get Orb or slingbox.

As for me, I do have a slingbox already as I used to have a windows mobile phone. And yes, I do hope that sling comes out with an app for the iphone. However, I don't know if it will ever pass either as I have been saying now for a while (and todays story about U-verse continues to strenghthen my thoughts) that ATT wants this capability to themselves. It could be like text messaging. Make us all sign up for the monthly service to get live streamed TV ect. Much more revenu for them this way than having us pay a one time fee for an app. Think about it.

I also have a slingbox, and I have faith that sling will be on the iphone. I dont have to get another phone because sling and apple are working together.

The money AT&T will get from iphone customers will be in the unlimited data plans that you will have to have to use sling.

AT&T will not care if they offer sling and U-Verse. There are plenty of smartphones that are in AT&T's stock that already can use sling. If AT&T cared about it, they would have a block or something in the contract to forbid this.

AT&T is not offered everywhere, so the U-Verse option will not be available for everyone.

Just sit back and wait, and while you are waiting stroll on over to the slingmedia page and look around alittle before you just ASSume that sling is not coming to the iphone.

Point me to a web site run by Sling, Apple, Or AT&T that hints that sling is not coming to the iphone, I will not hold my breath because there is not one.

I REALLY hope you're right - nothing would make me happier than a nice Slingplayer (although stereo BT is right up there). And this is nothing more than a clash of very opinionated stances, but I have to agree with fishmd. Apple has never been a company that treads lightly in fear of lawsuits - a lot of their actions now are questionable and some could already say they're in vioaltion of antitrust laws (I would have to partially agree). Along with their other 2 or 3 lawsuits, I thought I actually heard that they were being sued for violating an antitrust (but I could be wrong). From Apple's standpoint, 30% is just WAY to little when compared to what they could make by doing it themselves or partnered with AT&T. And I'm sure that if and when Sling and/or Orb get rejected, the reason will have us all scratching our heads trying to make sense of their answer - being vague has always been their forte. Regardless of what happens, I would NEVER, EVER succumb to purchasing U-Verse, I don't support bad business.

I don't think it's fair though that you're asking for proof that they'll be rejected, that's kind of silly. You can't prove something that hasn't happened yet. Neither you nor us can provide any proof that Apple is taking either one of those apps seriously, for all we know their intent could simply be to give us blind hope and distract us from their talks with U-Verse. Either way, as strong as our opinions and assumptions are, they're just that.

Proof that they are taking it seriously is that sling and Orb are both in the dev program. Orb is in the beta testing process. As I understand it( according to kidstalyon, who is one of the beta testers of Orb)All beta tests are run by the developer and Apple. Apple has to approve the beta tester or atleast get the testers info.

Why would apple waist 200 peoples time and money to test an app on beta if it is going to be rejected

Like I said before, Why is Apple going to waist their time and money on 2 companys if it will not go anywhere? If apple knew up front that they would not allow sling onto the app store, they would never have accepted them into the dev program.

Lets you and I agree to diagree and sit back and see who is right and who is wrong. :D

My money is on sling by the end of the year or first of next year :D

Serious? How do we know?

Proof that they are taking it seriously is that sling and Orb are both in the dev program.

I have been in the dev program for a while now. But all that means is that I committed a few hundred bucks to be in the program. I haven't developed one line of useful code.

So, I conclude that being in the dev program is (1) easy if you have a few hundred bucks, and (2) not indicative of "taking iPhone development seriously".

I imagine if they were serious, they'd have a usable, respectable release by now. They know how to implement all the hard parts - they've done it before on several platforms. Now they just have to whip up a platform-specific app.

Orb is in Beta testing, You dont call that serious?

sling has posted on their site that they are going to beta test later this year. A company would not make a job listing and pay someone just to work on the apple sling app if they were not serious.

If you look back at all the posts or just mine I have provided links as to where you can find the job listing and where they say they are going to beta test in the near future.

Everyone seems to tink if they get on here and say " Well they have not done it yet so I guess they wont ever" That is the stupidest thing ever.

Apple has not released alot of features on the iphone, does that mean they will not do it? no

You all need to relax and realise that it is ok to get excited about sling coming to the iphone, instead of tricking yourself to think well if it doesnt happen I can say I was right.

Do your research before you make statements you cant back up.

And if you wanna waste money just to say you are in the dev program good luck to ya. but when companies do it, they mean buissness.

Megazone, a rep and beta test manager for Sling has confirmed that iphone will have a player but he cannot give dates. He also said that The blackberry sling player will be out before the iphone player. :D

Where do you live? Because I live in the US and here monopolies are NOT illegal. Anti-competitive practices are illegal, but not monopolies.

AMcBroom81 -- I've read every post on this thread, and it looks as if you've become the personal crusader for slingplayer on the iphone, which is great, because it would be awesome, but here's one thing you have to take into consideration and out of your argument that it WILL come: being in the dev program don't mean jack *****. I've been in the Dev program for a while now developing something completely unrelated, and while it gives me access to certain things that you can't get just by downloading the SDK, in no way has Apple checked to make sure my app is "acceptable" and a shoe-in for getting into the App Store. This is my biggest fear; that I've wasted a crapload of time on something that won't get accepted. Every time I see news on the null-river apps or other apps that get rejected time and again, it strikes more fear into my heart. I've sent my specs along, and have gotten zero response as to whether they'd consider my app, and have sent many follow-ups, also with zero response.

Sling can hire all the developers they want and can put together the greatest app ever and it's going to boil down to whether Apple chooses to put it up or deem it "unacceptable due to similar functionality".

I have AT&T U-Verse, so I paid close attention to the U-Verse iPhone announcement.

It simply said that they wanted to make the iPhone work with their service. They talk about some neat features, like using the iPhone as a remote control, and even moving video from the DVR, to the iPhone (I would love that!), but they never said anything about live streaming.

http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/18472/

I don't think that they are holding back Sling Player, because of U-Verse. They are two different products.

There is nothing in the SDK that Sling is violating. When sling is done developing the app for the iphone and they submit it to apple. There is nothing that it would effect or compete with in itunes, or violate in the SDK. It is going to happen, it is just a matter of time. I am really excited about this app so Yeah I might sound like the number one sling on the iphone supporter. I just need people who doubt to get on board and get the attention that it needs. :D
