Day late and a dollar short for me. OrbLive is available via the app store and it works just fine. Video only works over wifi but there are ways around that. Audio works over 3g without having to mess with anything and that also includes the use of uSirius / uXM to stream Sirius and XM. I've been using it all morning and it works great. Sorry Sling, maybe one day you'll get on the ball and not take forever to do anything. I still have that Blackberry if that app ever makes it to market and I still care by then.
AT&T gives a huge crap and it's usually right on it's users, this being one example. Orb video is limited to wifi only. You need to jailbreak the phone and hack it to make Orb work over 3g. And it does work over 3g. It even works relatively well over EDGE, so it's not like it's inefficient. But Apple made them limit video to wifi. Why? If I had to guess it's because AT&T is a toilet company with a grossly overloaded network because they're more interested in doing lines of coke off the back of a $10000 a night hooker than they are in upgrading their network. So you and I get these arbitrary limitations and I'm sure Slingplayer, if it's ever actually released through the app store, will have the same limitations imposed on it.
This is my perception too.We will see sling. Just face it. Orb was the first, and sling is in the works polishing the app, and when you see the app for the blackberry then you know that the iPhone app is right behind it.![]()
Leaving the PC on is a dealbreaker for me. I also want a direct connection to my DVR. As for Sirius/XM, I'd much prefer a dedicated app..
Orb wasn't just first, it works great and it has a ton more functionality than Slingplayer. The only downsides are that you need a PC and it has to be on.
StarPlayr is in the works, for exactly that.![]()
The software is actually already complete, they're just waiting for approval from unspecified parties (either Apple, Sirius, or both):

One question to consider is this, Windows mobile smart phones and iphone uses the same 3G network. The windows mobile smart phones have been able to use the sling box and player for years with no complaints from AT&T. what makes you think that AT&T will only allow WM phones to use sling on the same network and not the iphone?
For starters, because Apple totally controls the apps we can use. Jobs already said high bandwidth apps are not on their good list.
OTOH, people with WM phones can load whatever the heck they want.
You are correct that Apple controls what goes on the app store, But have you been under a rock for the last couple of days?
OrbLive was released onto the app store and you can stream Music VIDEO and whatever you want ove EDGE 3G and WIFI. if they dont consider that a bandwidth hog I dont kow what is.
Maybe you should read more carefully? When I read this I thought it was an indication that the Sling Player client for iPhone was done and just waiting release.
An additional reason that Apple might refuse a Sling player application for the iPhone is that you need a Slingbox to use it.
Apple sells this stuff and takes a 50% profit off the top, and probably doesn't want to deal with issuing hundreds of refunds every year to the idiots that think the application is going to let them watch Live TV without the need for additional hardware.
*laughing* Actually, just got back from taking my daughter on a Disney cruise. So, yep, I have been.
Sweet ! Assuming they let it continue to sell, that is. Apple rejects radio app
Interesting.
So no one thinks that Apple's going to come out with their own "Sling" type app and hardware?
Maybe you should read more carefully?
Touche...LOL!Maybe you should not be a big mouth.
oh, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I doubt it. I forget who bought Sling offhand but it was some fat media corporation with enough money to bring a lot of pain to Apple if they so desired. It's a shame they can't funnel some of that money into Sling so they can hire a real development staff.
Again, I think most of the guesses as to why there's no Slingplayer yet can easily be shot down with one word: Orb. And again, I'd bet a paycheck there's no Slingplayer yet simply because Sling is the slowest software company on the face of the earth. I would not be the least bit surprised to hear Sling hasn't even submitted a "serious" app to Apple yet.

...I have years in the telecommunications industry and one thing is for sure, all of these big telecom companies are run by morons.
