Talked with tech support...

I figured since they have a chat feature for their tech support I'd ask them about SlingPlayer for iPhone. "Carlos" replied:

"I have news that is not so good. Sling Media tried to create the software compatible for iPhone but we encountered some obstacles to do it. So far, the project is on hold for an undetermined period of time. We will let you know for sure once is available."

MegaZone,

I understand if you cant say anything and I do respect that, But if you could answer this question that would be great.

On Macrumours on a thread that I have kept going about sling and the iphone, someone posted this post below.

I know that You have been very carefull not to talk about the status of the app, so I find it Funny that someone in customer service would tell someone this information about the app that has been kept a close secret on the development.

If you could let me know if the app is in fact on hold or this is just misinformation and is still planned for blackberry first, Then the iphone, that would help seperate rumours from fact.

Thanks and I look forward to your responce.

Drew

That is ABSOLUTELY not true. And I'm going to send this right off to the support supervisor. Someone will be talking to 'Carlos', I'm sure.

Work is continuing on iPhone, I was just talking to the product manager about it yesterday. I can't share the information, but I was pretty happy with what she had to tell me.

-MegaZone, Sling Media Beta Manager
Slingbox Pro, HD Connect, TiVo Series3, TiVo Pioneer DVR-810H, SPM Treo 680, SP WinXP
(I also run GizmoLovers.com)

that is a great email.

I have been a iphone lover from when it was a concept rumor, and i have to admit, this is the one feature I wish it had from the beginning.

I'm still jonesin' for the SlingBox app. I was a beta tester for Orb...Love it...But to be able to control my SLING.......Priceless....:D

Thanks so much for the info. AMcBroom81! :)

I feel bad now I got Carlos in trouble. Poor guy... :(

Let's be realistic, could a superior quality company like Slingmedia realistically still be waiting for SDK acceptance when other ludicrous developers have long been accepted? What are there 8, 10 tip calculators? Light saber app? I am rich?@? Come on, there is politics going on here that we are not privy too.
.

This is becoming increasingly the story across the board. There is clearly something going on and it ultimately may drive me and many other users away from the iphone. No tomtom no sling etc etc. These things are possible and you can bet these companies want to release on such a popular platform, so why haven't they?

Come on Apple let your device really evolve into something special, stop holding it back for greed or whatever it may be, sort out bt, give us c+p let us have landscape mode in txt and email. We don't want 10,000 apps of which 2% are useful and of that 2% only half actually work without crashing. Let real developers in to bring their programs to the iphone

No Problem, I dont think that he will get into trouble, But I do think that they will just let Carlos know that the project is still alive and going and not to discuss until the product is out.

jimmer-uk

I know that this will come out, It has nothing to do with Apple not letting it onto the app store, Sling is still perfecting the app and they have an order to which they are doing the apps, They have already stated that they are going to release the app for the blackberry first, and then the iphone app. :D :apple:

just to let people know, companies that have ideas for anything, Product or Software, It can take years until the product is finished. They go through testing, and God knows what else. Just because sling was able to put their software onto a jailbroken iphone, it was to show what they had in the works, not that they were ready to put it on the market right then. :D

If we can just be patient we will have the app before you know it.:D

I bought a Slingbox the first day they arrived at my Best Buy. I had been using it with my Windows mobile phone since day 1. Recently I switched to ATT and got an iPhone. While I do love the iPhone, ATT does suck compared to Sprint.

Sorry, back on topic...

In any event, my Slingbox has not been used in ~1 year since I got my iPhone.

Really too bad. It is a real pain in the ass having to go from my TiVo->PC->iPod

Oh well.

Its coming, I dont care when it comes out, I will get it when It does. :D

As long as I know that it will come at some point in my life then I am Happy. :D

I'm glad to see this thread is still alive. I use slingplayer on my laptop, and used it on my windows mobile phone. I really miss the phone app now that I am a dedicated iphone geek, and I'd really like to see this soon.

I've never really investigated the whole Slingbox thing, but there was an informercial on my Dish DVR the other night showing its capabilities and the partnership with Dish. Pretty cool device. I also just found out the company is right across the street from my work. Maybe I'll start having lunch over at Baja Fresh (same building) and see what I might overhear. :D

I've had a Slingbox since just after they first came out, and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, Sling Media has never been aggressive when it comes to developing its software for Apple products. It would be great to Sling on my iPhone, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have a feeling, we have yet to see the real strength of the iPhone and app store and we we'll see apps from people like sling box down the line along with other serious apps.

I'm certainly hoping that year 2 of the app store brings more substantial applications and fewer junk and/or duplicate apps.

I couldn't wait for it anymore, I bought a second-hand pocketpc.:p

I bought the iPhone the week it came out but before that I didn't have a cell phone for 5 years - I actually loved the privacy that came with it (except for the few emergencies). Anyway when I DID have a phone I bought a crappy, extremely simple Sprint phone and paired it up with my pocket pc, which was a dell Axim at the time. As simple as that phone was and even though it was about 5 years ago, that little combo allowed me to do everything, from tethering to Slinging. I actually miss them. Just out of curiosity - how are you using the ppc to watch Sling - where's your connection? Were you somehow able to pair your pocket pc to your iPhone? I tried countless times using Netshare but never suceeded.
