It had two micro-abrasions out of the box a quarter inch southwest of the Apple logo. Since then I've gotten a few (approx 3) more. It's honestly not as bad as it looks in the store - pretty sure people are trying to ruin it there...
Yeah, feel like people in the Apple Store are testing the phone, I saw 2 huge scratches on the back, no way that was on accident

Someone probably took something or rubbed it on the edge of the table to test it

I could understand the iPod 4 being loaded with scratches, just look at the thing and a new scratch will appear, but not the Jet Black iPhone 7 or 7 Plus

It's all good.

And yeah, sadly it's one of those things that tends to happen. Most of the time it's people convincing themselves they've made the right call. I can see why you thought my post was doing that, in hindsight.

But to re-iterate, no ill-feeling intended. Just a whole load of personal bias. :p

It's all good man, enjoy your phone!

Im going to enjoy the hell out of my JB just like all my previous iPhones. I know it's going to get beat up from my daily use and all scratched up, like you said, case-less is the way to go(since it feels better in the hand)!

Its not something I do on purpose, but it's my phone, a device which I use A LOT on a daily basis, babying it would simply impede on what I need to do.

Have a good day buddy :)!

Mines been out of the box for about a day now and I don't even notice the fingerprint "issue" people complain about. I'll likely keep a case off it because I'm still trying to get used to the + size. It's really such a beautiful phone and nothing like the 3G colour. So happy I was able to find one!

I finally went to the store today to check out both Jet black vs Matte black and was SHOCKED how bad the jet blacked looked in person with all the fingerprints and also scratches over it.
I have to say, I didn't mind the scratches at all, looks like normal wear to me. But that oily film over the whole thing really made it look cheap. I'm seriously leaning against my jet black order right now.. but maybe someone from here can say a few words to it, like when it's your personal phone and not that many people touch it all the time, how does it behave differently to the ones from the store?

I honestly have no idea how the people in the stores are manhandling the phones, but my finger tips don't even touch the back of my phone when I'm holding it... Store models are a terrible representation of one used in real life.

It's different because it's self cleaning in the pocket each time you take it out and put it in, which significantly minimizes the fingerprints. The display model isn't subject to this and hence looks worse, not to mention that many, many more dirty hands are touching it and not really handling it like you would normally do it (i.e., smearing your finger across the camera, etc.). You get more oil accumulation from 100 hands than touching it 100 times with a single hand.

I scored a Jet Black Plus yesterday at Target. It unbelievably had a scratch out of the box on the back. Apple has promised to make it right when they finally become available down the road.

Here are a few photos of my JB+ after two days of normal every day use. I don't use any sort of case or screen protector and don't plan to.
The first two photos are straight after coming home from work so people can see how it looks for fingerprints etc. Second two are after a quick wipe with a cloth.
In the two days i've had it i've been putting it down on various surfaces and taking it in and out of my pocket and car dash cradle all day. I've not inspected it closely for microabrasions but i can't see anything just by looking at the phone in every day lighting/situations so that in itself is promising.
I'm liking how much better grip it is but I'm still not 100% convinced I prefer it to the matte feel, although its certainly nice to have something a bit different after two years of the same matte space grey.

It gets a ton of fingerprints, yes, but it's easily polished clean. It's basically analogous to the screen when it comes to fingerprints.

yes that's what I saw in the store.. on the screen I don't really mind them though, cause it's on most of the time ;)
So do you guys now always carry a microfiber cloth with you?

Nope, I've got no time for that lol. I just use it as normal in the day and clean at night, which I did with all my phones anyway. There's rarely that many fingerprints on mine, at least not the oily kind that we see in the store photos, and I get a solid few hours usage out of it a day.

Andy's photos are a pretty accurate representation of daily use, without carrying a microfiber cloth around.

No, you'd just look like a tool doing that. I've been using my shirts, jeans, pants, etc. to wipe as necessary and my JB is most certainly not scratching up a storm like the mirror iPod Classic back.

Tried polishing mine, was a horrible idea.
I should stress that scratches only seem to show in surgical lighting so it doesn't bother me too much.

Yeah it's insane. I still don't see it 95% of the time though. Only shows when it's completely wiped off in perfect lighting. I suspect a clear case or skin would cover it up completely.

That really sucks. Have you tried using car wax to see if maybe that can fill in those scratches?
