You can add AppleCare+ without anyone looking at it. Just do it online. Coverage is not affected by scratches.

Unless you live in Florida. No phone calls, no online purchases of apple care plus. You must bring it in to an Apple store.

At this point I don't trust the JB finish enough to go with it, even though I always use a case.

In various scratch test videos the JB appeared to not only attract ultra-fine "micro-abrasions" but to scratch more readily and deeply with harder objects as well.

Perhaps something about the JB finishing process is slightly reducing the surface aluminium's density or hardness. In contrast, the anodising process of the matte versions may actually serve to harden it slightly as weaker parts of the surface material are etched away.

Just guessing but I'm more comfortable with stealth-black over bling-black right now. If the durability of the JB finish had matched matte black I would've gone with it.

It's a bit of a let-down that their newest premium finish also seems to be the least durable.

I'm returning mine. It's just far too fragile in terms of scratches and using it on the day to day. I've had a skin on it and never transported it anywhere without it being in a pouch and even mine has some micro abrasions. It's beautiful to look at, but it's a nightmare to actually handle.

I was pretty turned off by both black colors when I visited the Apple Store. Absolutely covered in fingerprints... they looked like awful cheap pieces of plastic.

If I had to choose I'd get the matte black or whatever, but man... space gray seems like it holds up much better!

I only grabbed a Jet Black because the day my iPhone came in I was told a customer cancelled an order for one in 128gb.

The phone's color has never been a big deal for me, but since I sell my phone each year I figured why not.

Grabbed the Luvvitt clear case. Always liked their cases and have used them on iPads for a while. Jet blacks have that grease effect with a lot of clear cases, and this one does it too. Honestly doesn't bother me. It's a phone I use everyday. It's going to get a little bit of normal wear over the year.

Sorry if it has been discussed... Has somebody tried applying ceramic coating on the phone? There are some liquid coatings for car / boat...not sure if it is safe to be applied in phone

Are you going for matte black? Was your jb a 7 or +?

It was a Plus. And for now, I'm actually giving the Google Pixel XL a shot. But at some point I'll probably end up with a matte black +.

Let us know how you like the Pixel! Looks great, for me it's the most interesting looking Android phone since the Nexus One.

I've enjoyed the grip of the jb devices the few moments I've handled them in store. I'll probably stick with my mb+ though. Pixel looks awesome, and with instant updates pushing to core android OS you should be well supported. Plus google integration can be great for lifestyle optimization/automation. iOS has a long way to go there. Hope you enjoy it!

Stick with your matte. I had originally gotten the matte but due to the "unicorn" status of the JB+ when one became available at a Target near me, I scooped it up. The grip is fantastic, but that's it. Look at it wrong and it'll scratch. Breathe on it, it'll scratch. Matte black offers much more peace of mind.

Agreed. I think the constrained supply of the jb makes it more enticing, but if availability wasn't and issue I'd be more critical of its finish. Let us know how the pixel works out.

The JB really feels night and day better in the hand. I think Marco Arment described it perfectly on ATP...you appreciate the grip every single time you pick the phone up. You may get discouraged the few times you stare at the back in perfectly angled light. I have had mine for a week caseless, and if I turn it around and just look at it, it looks perfect. If I take a light, angle the phone and look for the scratches, sure, they are there.

I noticed it feels great in hand, due to both the smooth surface texture and the adhesive quality. It's also the first iPhone to have that finish, which is another exciting aspect. And it looks beautiful! Sounds like most jb owners love their devices.

Yeah, I agree with you. It's a phone at the end of the day, and the only thing that matters to me is enjoying it for the year that I will have it. I think it looks and feels terrific, and I am not going to lose any sleep over scratches. I enjoy using this phone a lot more than I have any others in the past few years, and the fit/finish is a big part of that.

I bought an Apple leather case for mine and so far I cant see a single scratch. A few tiny micro scratches at the base near the Lightning connector, otherwise nothing. Still waiting for the body wrap to arrive

Those with JB, did you opt for a 7 or 7 Plus?

Those with a Plus who had a 6(S) Plus before, is the 7 Plus any easier to handle one handed?

I went from a 6 to the 7 Plus. My son had a 6 Plus and I loved the screen size, but the phone was huge so I was not sure if I would regret buying the phone, but no it's great. Hard to use one handed, but I rarely ever used the 6 one handed, so I have not noticed much difference with the 7 Plus

The jet black will get marks and scratches very very easily.

I was using both a plus and the regular in jet black. The 7 plus is my main phone! The 7 is my second and I kept in near the hand brake today and it got all marks ( the 7 ) replaced it with a regular black. At a cost of $150

1 week after, so far so good. No case, no skin, just not leaving it on a desk or table face up and rubbing it to pick it up and you will be fine. Don't mix it with coins, keys and you will be fine. The only thing im doing different from the 6s i had is to not putting it on my car cup holder.
