Still amazed at people who purchase the shiny jet black phone, and then are surprised when it shows fingerprints and micro scratches easily.

It is like wearing all-white clothing and shoes only to hope it doesn't get dirty.

Matte black gets smudges too which is why I kinda miss space gray which matches MacBooks better. But smudges are easily to tolerate than micro scratches since it takes seconds to clean it off. Matte black 7 does look boring though and looks like any typical phone out there. It just hides antenna lines better. Had Apple released matte black back in 2014, it would be an even boring pick now. Jet black only looked great in promo ads.

The key to jet black ownership is to NEVER look at your phone in direct sunlight. NEVER!
Or under Best Buy's bright lights...ruined my night. Lol.
Actually, only 3 micro abrasions. I knew they were there, and saw them under direct sunlight, but damn Best Buy needs to tone it down a bit!

I'm using my JB naked with a leather sleeve case from Joli Originals. So far so good. Whenever I put the phone down, I always put it on top of the sleeve, so it'll never get scratched. When in my pocket, it's in the sleeve.

Both jet black phones I had out of box brand new had micro abrasions. Only noticeable in very bright lighting. I follow the same care as you.

Unless you live in Florida. No phone calls, no online purchases of apple care plus. You must bring it in to an Apple store.
Even I, living in Moscow, Russia, purchased AP+ yesterday. My JB was purchased in NYC and after couple days I have decided for my calmness to add the AP+ online and I have zero problems with it. No calls, no store visit

As for scratches. This is 4 years old Iphone 5 used in silicon case (not by Apple). Not bothering me at all

Sorry if it has been discussed... Has somebody tried applying ceramic coating on the phone? There are some liquid coatings for car / boat...not sure if it is safe to be applied in phone
Someone posted a few pages ago a result of car waxing on JB. Totaly ruined surface(( car waxes consists abrasive particles, so it was a bad idea

The release of the Jet Black has been an amazing case study in the pure delusion of the blogosphere and how easily manipulated people are.

In reality, Jet Black is possibly the single most durable and consistently good looking finish ever on an iPhone. There is no flat metal to easily scuff, scratch or blemish that is visible or tactile. My unit has been used with no case for weeks. It looks and feels pristine. If I try really hard under just the right light and angle, I can see some of the tiny micro abrasions it has collected...when I first saw them I thought: That's it? And then I rejoiced at what an incredibly high quality construction this is.

Or, just not lose sleep over it, and enjoy a beautiful pocket computer with a phone app. Does that make you happy? :)
I'm soooo overjoyed I can barely express it. :D But this and an added half million dollars would really make me "happy".

Yeah, because the Apple "iPocket Computer with a Phone App" really rolls off the tongue. :p
Well they did stop being phones some years ago, just saying.
[doublepost=1477511522][/doublepost]
Or start calling them: "beautiful device that I absolutely would die without"
Ahhhhh not quite die without, perhaps mildly ill. Things to die for, entirely different standard, for me at least.

I see where you are coming from but it does have the name phone right in the name. That being said, I don't mind scratches on my "pocket computer" as long as it's not on the screen, I don't use a screen protector though.
When I wrote my comment I was anticipating your response. Surprised others have not stated your obvious and valid counter. I don't see Apple changing the name any time soon. It is interesting that over the years carriers have gone from having call minute limits to having data limits with no limit calling.

Years ago when I got a shiny new toy I tried my best to keep it looking new. After a while I realized it was more practical to just use it and enjoy it. Don't get stressed out over a scratches and normal wear and tear.

I feel the same. Use it, enjoy it, only 10 months to the next one.......well maybe 13 months when you throw in delivery time. :D

Be careful with that. I bought a Joli sleeve for my iPad and a speck of sand or something must have gotten in it and stuck to the inside of the sleeve. It scratched my iPad's screen three times just around the same spot. I've been hesitant to use it again since.
