If I haven't gotten any scratches in a week, what's another two weeks going to do?
My phone screen typically look flawless for a very long time. I've had it over a year now and I can see micro abrasions in the right light. Not something that terribly bothers me. But they're there.

Will you see this? I don't really know. As careful as I am with my devices I am convinced people simply have different levels of sensitivity to this sort of thing. When I sold my wife's 6s I made mention it had similar scratches. The buyer asked me what I was talking about.

That said I don't see the stark difference that people seem to see between the 720 and 180p iPhone screens. People swear the 720 is more fuzzy.

I'm not even talking micro abrasions that you can only see in certain lighting at the right angle which may bother some people but not others. I feel like a lot of people are under the impression that jet black phones will look like this after a couple of weeks with normal use:

Mine looks NOTHING like that and probably never will.

Because it will scratch once the honeymoon period is over. Now you are taking extra care at it.You will inadvertently slip up at a point and put it on a surface where some sand or grit will scratch it.I am telling you the dust particles which accumulate in a case scratched it

It would only look like this if you're sliding it across tables.

No, you'd just look like a tool doing that. I've been using my shirts, jeans, pants, etc. to wipe as necessary and my JB is most certainly not scratching up a storm like the mirror iPod Classic back.

This statement is not accurate on many facets and poorly written. I can tell you for fact, if you rub the Jet Black on your pants or shirt (Pending material) it will hairline scratch. I was recently at a Tech Expo where the Jet Black was tested on various surfaces and it was finely scratched from clothing, which is visible under certain ambient lighting conditions.

Second, someone is labeled as a "Tool" if they carry a pocket size microfiber cloth with them? Really? Does your "Tool" comment apply if that same someone carries a pocket microfiber cloth to clean sunglasses or a computer screen? Unreal.

Honeymoon phase is over. I've been treating my iPhone 7 like I treat all my other phones. I don't use a case and I never put it directly on a hard, flat surface. Whenever I set it on a table, I always put a napkin or something down first.

I keep looking at these JB phones that people hold up, expecting others to go "wow." To me, they look just...boring. Kind of worse than boring: They look gross. Anything shiny/jet/reflective black is just ugly, IMO. I never buy monitors with glossy edges, for example, or glossy screens. Jet black is ugly, IMO.

That's just sad.

If you need to keep a napkin whenever you keep the phone on a hard surface, and it needs constant babying than you are not enjoying your phone as it was intended. And I am not even sure if a napkin can keep it scratch free as jet black has been shown to scratch on just wiping it with a cloth

Now these scratches May not be noticeable but in the Apple store lighting and outside in the sun just looking at the back would make me cringe

After ten days jet black is just fine. But I don't check back of phone much. Always thought the functioning part to look at was the screen side. The JB back is so boring and one dimensional. Total lack of information.

All kinds of people out there. Some worry about back of phone. Others can use a gross utter mess of a phone quite happily.

Was sitting next to someone, their phone screen had so much crud, grease smudges, what looked to be dried spittle or sneeze spray, I had to look away. Made me ill. But they were happily texting away.

I've done this with every phone since my first iPhone in 2008 and I have no issues doing it. I'm not sure where the enjoyment from setting your phone down directly on a table comes from. Setting your phone down just doesn't seem like something one can enjoy.

Of course, because there is only one extreme or the other, you either have to have it pristine or a complete mess, there is no inbetween.

That's fair. I was mostly just adding to the discourse. I'm of the opinion that the fact Apple wrote a disclaimer is telling of a few things. First and foremost scratches shownuo easier. Second, they realize their customers can be completely obsessive about these things lol.

Enjoy you're phone. I think they jet looks great. I still couldn't ever do without a case myself regardless of the finish. My three year old makes sure if that.

I think there are clearly different camps here lol.

I think the poster simply meant to say it's nice to just set a phone down and not worry about it. I would personally go bonkers if I felt compelled to set something down on a table before setting my phone down after it. And I'll tell you what, I did that in the 3G days and it sucked lol. To those who are happy or otherwise unaffected doing that, all the power to you.

Anyway, what I'm seeing here at this point is folks trying to convince each other why they're right. You're all right. Because whatever you do is fine for you as long as you're happy doing that. For those that want to not care about where their phone is tested, maybe the jet black isn't for them.

I put my phone down on the floor and step on it with my dirty sneakers, often. I guess the JB would not look too good in my possession.

This photo I believe was circulated the day of the keynote by a reporter. I haven't seen anybody guess this, but I highly suspect this was one of the display phones, and by the circular scratches, it was on one of those metal clamps.

You're not allowed to use logic on the internet! Moar arguments plx.

Totally agree though. When you ask a question like how is your JB holding up/does it have scratches, it's always gonna be subjective.

Go to your local mall with an Apple Store and get an Invisible Shield back skin installed at Zagg. It's only $20 and this way you know you're not getting any major scratches.

It doesn't matter what color or material my phone is. I do it with every phone regardless. I do it with my iPads as well.

I'm not changing my habits now that I own a phone that scratches easier. I already treated my devices this way for years. And my phones usually stay looking almost like they were pulled right from the box even a year later.

had mine in a official apple leather case for about a week now and its beginning to get tiny micro abrasions on the bottom where it is exposed. They are only visible under intense LED light though, not under normal conditions.

I will eventually go case-less when the honeymoon period is over.

I see this all the time and it's more often than not crud that's collected on/around their screen protector and I just wanna be like "You realize your phone would look clean without that cheap piece of plastic stuck on it, right?"; but then I remember that not everybody cares about the same things I do so I keep my opinion to myself.... while shuddering on the inside.

Yes, that would suit my definition perfectly. I hope you also carry a texting glove with you at all times too.

You took my statement out of context. I qualified my statement by saying it is not scratching up a storm like the mirror iPod Classic back. I wasn't suggesting that the scratches aren't visible at all. In fact, my JB is full of fine micro-abrasions but you can really only see them under direct light. This is unlike the mirror iPod back where the scratches are visible under all conditions.

No. Unfortunately I can't. Gloves do not work with the new home button. I wish they did.
