Imo the jb was just a marketing spin to offset Apple using basically the same shell 3 years running. Make it look like shiny glass when it's not.

Interesting you say that. My local Verizon representative said the same thing when I preordered Gold 7 Plus. Although I don't have A lot experience handling the Jet Black iPhone.

4 days in with my new fresh JB+ and took the case off that ive had on since unboxing

Micro abrasions along the top - most noticeable on the black antenna band!

Im going naked however take care when placing it down...

You cant escape micro scratches and feel that the antenna band will cop it the worst

Yeap replacement for it, 3 weeks old rocking naked. Reckon it's a bad batch or it's just the way how jetblack was made

I wouldn't mind my JB peeling like that right before the release of the iPhone 8, would swap it out for a new one and then sell it micro abrasion free!

Yeah I think it's Apple tryin to show a new look to the same design. Make it look sleek like glass to differentiate from the other older models.

I don't care one way or the other but if you wanted to mimic the glass look just make it out of glass.

Played around with a Jet Black device at an Apple Store, and I feel that they could have achieved the same visual effect using some sort of high quality glossy polycarbonate.

Of course plastic wouldn't be as heavy or feel as substantial in the hand.

Your arrogance is astounding.

I have an iPhone 7 256GB in May Black, I always put my phone in a case. However, it's only for scratch protection. I like them to be as thin as possible to keep the form factor.

Resale value is important for me, as I upgrade at least once every 12 months. For example, last phone was an S7 Edge and one before that iPhone 6S. Far easier to sell and get top price if you take care of them.

I can highly recommend the TOZO ultra slim, can be had on Amazon for very little. Fits perfectly and should protect your JB.

Nice looking case - is that lined at all?

Lined? You mean inside?

It's essentially a rigid shell (with slight bent), very thin. Also has ridge which sits over side of camera lens, so resting it on the back won't scratch it.

People are still fighting/justifying their JB or MB purchase? lol

I have a jet black, got it in late Sept. Have used it with a bumper case mostly, exposed back.

Does it have micro-scratches? Yes, of course it does.

Does it bother me, the owner? Nope. Actually, in my opinion. it gives the phone some personality. And if the 2017 iPhone is all its cracked up to be, I only have 10 months or so left with it, so I'll enjoy it while I can.

Purchased my 7 Plus Jet Black 256gb on Saturday at my local Apple Store. When opening the box I only found one 1/4 inch micro scratch (can barely see it) on the back right corner of the phone. Immediately put a case on it. Today I took the case off to clean the dust and stuff off. No scratches or micro abrasions that I could see. I didn't use a magnifying glass or anything but with my eyes and some light it was still perfect. I'm pretty OCD in general and I always take the best care with my devices. As long as it's cared for I don't see the JB finish being an issue.

take it out in a few months and there will be scratches on the inside. I even have a few tiny tiny ones (only visible under strong LED light) and its been in the apple leather case which is lined.

There is literally no way to prevent scratches on this thing unless you get the wet install protectors, which eventually peel off anyway.

Its good that you dont care, but what are you gonna do with in 10 month when the new iphone comes out? Are you gonna sell it? Are concerned about **** resale value that your phone is going to have?

sorry but what's the point of having a Jet Black (or any color for that matter) when you hide and cover it under such an ugly, cheap looking plain case?
a nice clear case maybe but this?

I see this comment often but that can be said for any color. It not like we JB owners paid a premium price for the JB color.
I have a JB 7+256 and since day one it has been in a CM4 Q CASE just like my SG 6s+ was and my SG 6+ was.

Despite 'babying' my Jet Black iPhone 7 plus, as well as every iPhone I have ever owned, I managed to drop my iphone from waist height onto an asphalt car park while walking. I could hardly bear to pick it up and was cursing my stupidity, but to my surprise, when I picked it up and inspected it, there were very few marks. Honestly, there are only a few moderate scratches and a slight chip on the camera lens cover which fortunately does not affect the camera performance. It took a few hours to get over the incident but I am amazed how well the iPhone held up. If it had been paint, I'm sure it would have been much worse.

For one - the look of a case is subjective... I like a simple, clean and ultra thin case. The only purpose of the case for me is to reduce the chance of scratches, i'm happy to accept the risk of falls as i like to retain the form factor.

I agree, i think it's a shame we bang these incredibly nice looking phones in cases. I'd love to not have to - but unfortunately i also upgrade every 6-12 months (Switching back and forth from iOS / Android), i wouldn't want to risk that something in my pocket causes a deep scratch and affect it's resale value. Primary reason i've always gotten the very top price for my phones used - is that they're always in immaculate condition.

super tempted to go naked for a few days to see how it holds up however I cannot part with the saddle brown leather case. Just looks so classy.

the solution will be a a clear (transparent) case.with similar form factor, etc just clear.
so that the beautiful design of the phone can be seen while it's protected against scratches.
cases like that picture makes no sense.with leather cases etc I get it, but cheap plastic colored case? why? just use transparent.

Sort of like saying a 2017 matte black <insert car make and model> is a marketing spin to offset the same body style being used for 4 years.

In a sense it is, but although the body is the same. The internals were updated and overall refined.
