I put a Slickwraps glossy Naked wrap on mine and for me this is the best protection while coming as close to the original aesthetics of the Apple design. Dropped it once on the back but no damage what so ever which I attribute to the wrap and not a single scratch yet.

Sort of like saying a 2017 matte black <insert car make and model> is a marketing spin to offset the same body style being used for 4 years.

In a sense it is, but although the body is the same. The internals were updated and overall refined.

Somewhat. 3 years is a pretty long time to stick to basically same outer hardware though in the smartphone world. Especially since the new jb is much more prone to wear and tear.

Not saying this is you, but this is what the general complaints on these forums were...

For two years: "hideous design, look at those ugly antenna bands and slippery backs!"
This year: "No design change and we don't care for the grippy back because we see we touched it now."

smh I think the majority of Apple complainers are on these forums (again, not saying you are one, just using your comment to vent out the general forums feel).

super tempted to go naked for a few days to see how it holds up however I cannot part with the saddle brown leather case. Just looks so classy.

THIS.

But honestly the saddle brown is gorgeous especially as a patina develops with use.

Do these wraps help with grip at all?

Yeah I understand. And I'm not complaining. Just understanding the mindset of Apple. Moving antenna lines wasn't enough of a "new" look considering they know people are used to the tick tock cycle. While the mb look is nice imo it's not the splash of difference that they did with the jb. The jb seems like a holdover job until possibly next year when rumors point to a glass iPhone 7s/8. Try to give the look of sleek glass but it's not glass. Only offer in upper 2 storage tiers and limit initial qty to create demand. Even though the finish is about the slickest, nondurable surface. I personally would've preferred a blue over the jb.

IMO yes slightly. The jet black was already more grippy than the other colors. I wouldn't say this is a slippery phone with a Slickwraps naked on it.
How are the fingerprints with the bestskinsever? I've got the alien skin on now but it leaves oily streaky fingerprints, I'm tempted to remove it and go naked, as I've read the fingerprints aren't that bad.

not being a smart ass here but try washing your hands more often. I hardly have any prints on my JB worth commenting on. I wash often, will also keep flu from spreading as quickly. Just a thought.

I have to take my case off every night to get my phone into its docking station on my nightstand. Didn't care too much when i had the space grey iPhone 6s+, but was concerned when I got the jet black iPhone 7+ due to the micro abrasion issue. I've had my phone for 2 weeks now and there are barely any signs of micro-abrasions. Those that do appear can only be found depending on the lighting. I do plan to get a larger dock so I don't have to take the case off every night :)

As far as overall durability, 2 nights ago I accidentally knocked my phone off a counter-top onto a title floor without the case on. I thought for sure there would have been some sort of damage, but nothing at all. Still can't believe that - the "cell phone" gods must have been with me.

lol thanks HEK, but my hygiene is is exceptionable thank you. the alien skin leaves a residue as soon as you touch it. I'm going to try it nude, them may apply the bestskinever if people say its better

I have an iPhone 7 256GB in May Black, I always put my phone in a case. However, it's only for scratch protection. I like them to be as thin as possible to keep the form factor.

Resale value is important for me, as I upgrade at least once every 12 months. For example, last phone was an S7 Edge and one before that iPhone 6S. Far easier to sell and get top price if you take care of them.

I can highly recommend the TOZO ultra slim, can be had on Amazon for very little. Fits perfectly and should protect your JB.

I've had it for a little over 24 hours.

I've taken it out of the case 3-4 times, no scratches that I can see and the fingerprints aren't major.

(My case isn't microfiber either, it's a plastic transparent which can apparently scratch? Idk)

I hate to disappoint some of the people here (not really), but I'm now three days away from the three week mark several people mentioned of owning my jet black iPhone 7 without a case and still only have the one scratch from the first day.

But maybe you'll still be right and, in one of the next few days, several scratches will inexplicably appear on my phone.

Yeah, it's definitely not as fragile as everyone has made it seem.

I've literally exchanged my matte black to jet black and back 6+ times since release because the stigma of damaging the jet black. I finally sucked up and got a sim free JB+ as my final phone. ❤️ love it in the saddle brown. Also picked up a back protector film from Zagg with a flawless install.

OMG I literally did the same thing, and thought I was crazy. JB+ with Zagg skin = ❤️

my spigen jet black thin case is on its way. I felt that my current TPU case doesn't go well with jet black (plastic on gloss looks cheap). only concern is the spigen case doesn't have an inner lining, hope it doesn't scratch the phone. but then after a few days, i have learnt not to care so much about the back anymore, since i interact with the phone on the screen and not the back...

I unboxed mine two hours ago. Didn't even touch the back, it went straight into the Apple leather case. Around the exposed camera area, I swear there already is a small mark. Haven't even put the phone into my pocket yet lol.

Also marks aside, the jet black really shows dust fast around the exposed areas.

The comment noted that other than pride of having a jet black model as the rarest availability of the iPhone 7 plus, it is just a phone that was put in a case without showing the prideful jet black color. Hence, if you got Matte Black, it would look the same on the front, black bezel, and the matte black color would be covered. In the end, having jet black or matte black does not make any difference.

It really doesn't for people who use cases. This thread should be focused on people who have JB and do NOT use a case...

Every time I get an alert for this thread I hope to see a picture of naked users but it's always just someone who slaps a case on their JB phone and talks about a small hairline scratch from their case.

It does make a difference. I use it without a case, and the grip is a lot better than the matte 6+ phone I used to have. It slipped from my hand and cracked the screen, but I had AppleCare+. It was pretty difficult to use it naked compared to the 4.7" size, but the Jet Black feels much more comfortable.
