This photo I believe was circulated the day of the keynote by a reporter. I haven't seen anybody guess this, but I highly suspect this was one of the display phones, and by the circular scratches, it was on one of those metal clamps.
It's possible. I have looked at a few display models myself. None looked as bad as that photo. They are incredible fingerpint magnets. If you check out out mid day it looks like it had been sitting atop a freshly baked cheese pizza. :p

Yes, that would suit my definition perfectly. I hope you also carry a texting glove with you at all times too.
You must not live in a very cold climate if you think this example is so ridiculous (or you simply don't text outside in twenty degree wather, or don't mind freezing your fingers off). Digital touch gloves are about the greatest cold weather purchase I think I have made. Well, barring a down coat which can actually be considered as life giving in certain conditions lol.

so, I've read the last 5 pages of this thread and have no interest in reading most of the BS to the beginning- a couple of people mentioned diminished resale value for the back-scratched JB compared to a cased, non scratched other color option. I'm wondering how true this is?????

MY SIMPLE QUESTION IS, how poorly is trade-in/resale value going to be in say 1.5-2 years for a never dropped, clean screen, but scratch covered backed iPhone JB 7+???? (AND not even deep scratches just the normal easily visible ones (all over as most of us has seen will happen)????????????)

#1- someone said if you take precautions and are gentle with the JB it will keep looking pristine- this is BS- I use my JB+ caseless but have a leather cloth I put the phone on when it sits on my car seat or my desk, have never dropped it, babied it more than any other iphone I've had (and I've had almost all of them) never slid it against a surface nothing. The screen is spotless, no micro abrasions, however the back especially on the corners and bottom are covered, COVERED with scratches. Some are micro, but others are clearly visible in most lighting.

#2- I've had every single iPhone design and not one of them scratched this easily, not even the iPhone 3GS! I'd say honestly, once scratched the 3GS looked worse, but to actually scratch it was more difficult. However back then we all had a free every 2 and didn't care and weren't shelling out a G for a phone.

#3- I honestly don't even care about the scratches AT ALL. I don't mind the character and cosmetics. I would care about screen scratches though. I'm only concerned with resell value.

#4- of all the models since iPhone 6, the JB has by far the best grip/least slippery. Anyone who tells you that it's just as slippery as the other colors is literally insane or has never touched a JB and is just guessing.

IF ANYONE CAN ANSWER MY QUESTION ABOVE I'D GLADLY APPRECIATE IT!?

I initially had a jet black 7 and exchanged it for a gold 7 because the prints and micro scratching scared me. I have since decided to go with the 7 Plus, went with the Jet black through the IUP. I figure I can use it caseless and not too worried about the micro scratches since it will only be for a year anyway. Slapping a slick wraps on it whenever that comes in and using a sleeve. So far it looks good.

Just took my iPhone out of its case and I definitely see micro abrasions, along with two short scratches *sigh*. I was going to put a slick wrap on it but after I saw that iPhone video, decided against it. So much for keeping it in almost-perfect condition. **** the jet black haha.

Not so much the micro abrasions, of which mine has plenty, but these dots that are developing. I suspect its the dust that gets trapped between the case and the body thats causing these dots. My jb 7plus has been babied since day one and has been kept in a spigen liqid armor case which is a soft TPU type case. Its two weeks old btw.

That's another reason I don't uses cases. Not just for jet black, but I see people's iPhones after they've been in cases for months and dirt and sand gets trapped between the phone and case and scratches it in certain spots. I've especially noticed it with OtterBoxes. There's always a ring of tiny scratches and dots shaped like the openings of the case, particularly around the earpiece and home button.

I can't even get the scratch on mine to show up on camera, taken with an iPhone SE or Galaxy S7 Edge.

Had mine three days. It has some micro abrasions already (as expected) but no scratches. I had it in a liquid armour case but I found it too thick so I've switched to a thinner one.

Overall quite happy with it, I love the finish.

The dots you're referring to are most likely from the case. Cleaning the phone and case regularly will help with this, but it's one of the big reasons some people, myself included, run naked.

I've had iPhones since the iPhone 4 and iPads since the iPad 2 and I've had a lot of different cases. The only cases I haven't personally had in-case scratches from are the Apple cases with micro fleece lining. Here's hoping I'm not jinxing myself...

That makes sense, for the crap to be trapped in the lining, but there's nothing on the sides of the case.

Other way 'round. The Apple cases with micro fleece lining that I've used/am using don't scratch the phones or iPads. It's the unlined plastic cases that scratch the bad of the iDevices, often pretty badly. If I'm going to put one of those on a phone or iPad I put a skin on the back. I don't think I've noticed scratches on the sides with any of the cases I've used.

A phone that's priced closer to a computer than a pair of shoes.

JB iPhone + No case = Courage

Courage is when someone overcomes the fear of death or agony.

Using a smartphone without a case is called "they don't care", at least for normal people.

Then there are those who go case-less, yet constantly "baby" the phone. That's called... (I'll let you decide).

I had a JB for just about 3 weeks. I just exchanged it out for a matte black today.

Here's the deal:

The Jet Black iPhone looks great. It really is that one iPhone that I think does justice without using a case. Just about every and any case used will take away whatever makes the JB iPhone stand out against the other models available.

If you happen to be crazy about keeping your phone looking like new for the next 12 month until the next iPhone comes out, I advise against it. It scratches. It scuffs. It gets worn in. And it happens pretty quickly. Even if you do opt for a case (I did), any little bit of dust that get under there over time will cause small scuffs and imperfections.

I think the JB iPhone ages nicely with some everyday wear. Even if it's scratched up pretty good, it will still look sharp.

The only reason I swapped mine is because I sell my iPhones on eBay every year. I thought about how well I took care of it and then how it will look 11 months from now... For reselling purposes only, I went with a matte finish so it doesn't look as beat up when it's time to sell.

If you don't worry much about resell value and don't sweat the small stuff, I still recommend it. It's a slick looking device.

And then there are people like me who care but don't baby their phone, though they don't treat their phone like ****.

I think you should have got one of the other colours because the matte black has issues with its finish as-well. Especially around the edges of the display and the bottom where the lightning connector plugs in. A lot of people have posted photos of the black coming off showing a bright silver and I'm sure that won't look good when it comes time to sell it in a year.

I don't care for the white bezels around the screen. I watch enough video content that for me it's a bit distracting. And my work iPhone is white. Don't want to have them mixed up. ;)

I've seen the matt black lightning connector plug discolor due to the rough handling of the display.. the sales guy in the Apple store told me it's not going to be the case if it's only handled properly by one owner...

I wonder if we can use those permanent sharpies in Black and colour over the lightning port? o_O

That's unfortunate, that should be covered even by the limited AppleCare. Was he/she rocking it naked since he/she got it?

Yeap replacement for it, 3 weeks old rocking naked. Reckon it's a bad batch or it's just the way how jetblack was made
