This also happened to my JB 7 in the last few days. Had the phone 3-4 weeks. No case but always super careful and kept in my pockets on its own with no keys/coins etc. Phone hasn't been dropped and doesn't have a single mark/scratch on it.

It's as if it's chipped or peeled/flaked away? Took it to Apple Genius Bar last night and they refused to accept it was a manufacturing fault and kicked me out the door.

Really disappointed with this.
Right where the headphone jack is, if you finish peeling and use a drill ;)

But please, don't. Those on YouTube and garbage sites who don't add the disclaimer that it's a joke are scum. I have a mark around the same speaker hole - I also had one on my iPhone 6 gold color, too. Surprisingly, I noticed that one more than the jet black phone one.

I don't ha e the phone, but yeah. Apple can reject a claim over cosmetic issues as cosmetics aren't covered.

I've had mine since day one. Never had a case on it. Goes in my pocket by itself and if I set it on my desk it's always on something soft or a pad of paper. Looks great still. Some micro scratches but only visible in harsh direct light. Still grippy as new. Apple doesn't care about normal wear and tear for warranty replacements. And AppleCare covers accidental damage anyways.

Same here--no case, VERY MINOR micro-scratches. Grip and looks still awesome!

This is not a cosmetic issue and it has nothing to do with use or abuse. Anodizing should *never* peel or chip if it's properly performed. That is simply defective and Apple should absolutely replace it.

Well let's see what, if any, response I get from Apple CS' engineering team. It's apparently been sent up to them for their opinions/considerations.

Not holding out much hope tbh. The in store Genius guy was quite adamant that it was not cause as a result of a manufacturing fault.

So just had a call back from Apple Care and they're offering me a replacement iPhone 7 JB. Looks like they have decide it is an issue after all?!

Am obviously pleased to be getting the replacement but still a tad annoyed my iPhone did this in the first place.

Let's hope iPhone 7 JB v.2 has a better finish!

That was what they should have done in the first place, you're absolutely right.

Anodizing is done in batches (that's probably obvious). In theory, there could have been just one bad batch. Anodizing is *not* very complex, but contaminants in the tank or bad dye or poor metal prep/cleaning could cause problems. Could just be bad luck involving a very small number of phones, and you won (lost) the lottery.

Anybody else have any "oil slick"-like splotches on theirs?

Got mine on Friday the 25th. By Sunday night, most of this time being at home, I noticed two of these splotches on the back. Hard to see unless you put a drop of water on the back and wipe it with a microfiber; the splotches get "streaky" as the water gets wiped over them.

I can't tell for sure if they feel different than the rest of the finish. One is about 3mm wide, the other maybe 1.5mm wide. They look almost as if you put bacteria on something and let it eat away, or like a drop of acid on it. Very weird.

Trying hard to get a photo of the big one but very hard to capture in a shot.

But if you have them I'm sure you will know what I'm talking about.

Anyone? Anyone? Just me? -_-

People who think jet black doesn't scratch easily has their head in the sand while trying to pound sand same time.

It's asinine. Jet black is also as slippery as the matte version unless you have clammy hands.

Jet black version is just the best.

No scratches on mine.

Feels fantastic in the hand and not even a bit slippery.

Just an awesome piece of hardware.

No if ands or buts....

That's all folks.

FINALLY got mine today and I'm so excited! Been waiting a long time for this baby...... She is still "restoring," getting all her apps and other stuff in place so I haven't had much of an opportunity to really play with her yet and try out the dual camera lens (one major reason i wanted an iPhone 7 Plus in the first place). Finish looks beautiful and I plan to keep her naked while at home but may use a case from time to time as well. With my previous iPhones I always used a case and also would slip the device into a microfibre pouch when carrying it in my purse or other bag, and I plan to use the microfibre pouch with this new iPhone, too. I was surprised at how not-slippery this iPhone is compared to my previous Space Black 6s Plus....very nice!

Totally agree. After putting my 7+ on Otterbox statement case since the day I got it 2 months ago, it is now protected from dust and water comfortably in LifeProof Fre case. No scratches. I am done babying it until the iPhone 8 comes. For the love of jet black 7+ honeymoon is over and ready for the next.

And the cost of the replacement is less than the difference between a replacement phone and the price you'll achieve selling the beaten one?
