I never lay my iPhone down on surfaces without something underneath to protect it; at home I usually have it on a stand, which makes it easy to see and also means it is less likely to get scratched or scuffed. I've been doing this for years, ever since my very first iPhone. I am enjoying not having a case on my new Jet Black iPhone 7 + -- I can appreciate the elegance and beauty of the phone so much more and it really feels very nice in my hand when I'm using it.

FINALLY got mine today and I'm so excited! Been waiting a long time for this baby...... She is still "restoring," getting all her apps and other stuff in place so I haven't had much of an opportunity to really play with her yet and try out the dual camera lens (one major reason i wanted an iPhone 7 Plus in the first place). Finish looks beautiful and I plan to keep her naked while at home but may use a case from time to time as well. With my previous iPhones I always used a case and also would slip the device into a microfibre pouch when carrying it in my purse or other bag, and I plan to use the microfibre pouch with this new iPhone, too. I was surprised at how not-slippery this iPhone is compared to my previous Space Black 6s Plus....very nice!
That's hilarious. I thought I was the only one who put their iPhone in a case and then in a microfiber pouch. I guess that makes two of us...
I originally ordered JB and changed to Matte Black as that was the one I could get first. I don't regret is as I am way to particular and even 'micro' scratches would annoy me.

A few years ago I picked up several microfibre sunglasses pouches at REI and they are just the right size and very handy for protecting my iPhone as well as my small P&S camera from dust, grit or anything else that might be in my purse or bag and cause scratches. Also this helps keep one's iPhone case (if one is on the phone) clean and free from the same aforementioned grit, dust, etc. Glad to see that I'm not alone in doing this! :)

I LOVE my new Black Beauty! Really gorgeous and elegant......

Been rocking mine case-less since launch, I'm not ridiculously careful with it at all, I'll put it down wherever is convenient and it's had a few nasty drops (usually falling out of my car cradle and ending up in the footwell).
Unless you look at it really closely under a torch it still looks in great condition, nice and shiny still and you really do have to look for the scratches, although admittedly there are literally hundreds of those little micro scratches.
I feel bad for people who bailed on getting the colour they liked best as they were worried about the scratches.
Mine looks great so I'm sure if you really care enough to baby the thing you could keep it looking even better.

Oh my gosh, I feel the opposite. I find the white front iPhones to be hugely distracting to my eye when using. The black border puts focus on the content.
I used to think the same thing. That and white was just ugly, but something changed when I saw the white iPhone 5. I thought it looked alright, and I guess over the next year I grew to actually like it so I bought a silver iPhone 5s. Ever since then I've only bought white front phones and tablets with the exception of my Moto X 2013, which I wanted in the walnut finish and wouldn't look good with a white front, and my jet black iPhone 7, which looks way better than all the other colors.

I just wish there was like a pearl white iPhone 7 with very discreet antenna lines just like the jet and matte black colors.

I'm sure the iPhone 8 they will introduce a pearl white or jet white

really? that is what I love most about the black phones
I love the Jet Black so much, because the case blends in with the display
But I love how the silver phones have a Touch ID ring, love the way my 6 Plus has it

I have also noticed with the white iPhones more wallpapers and cases match the phone
Only certain cases match the black phones

Lastly, I wish all iPhone colors had a black face, and whatever color back
Similary to the Nexus 6P (they would need to choose a darker shade of gold though to match black)

So the boss wanted to see my iPhone (Jet Black 128GB) so I took it out of the case and handed it to him. He looks at it for 5 seconds says I'm getting another Android then slides it across the table to me. When I say "slides it across the table" I'm talking like 2 feet. It received scratches mainly at the bottom. The bright side is they are difficult to see nonetheless they are there. Nothing like sliding someones 900$ phone across a table.

That's absolutely ridiculous, could they not have just handed it to you? Surely that takes less effort than sliding

Aesthetically, I think it's best to have it blend in with the bezels, screen, back and sides. I don't need attention drawn to it, especially when it would just be some arbitrary, out-of-place color on a Jet Black phone.

After about a month with mine and no case there are lots of small scratches on it if I look closely, but none are noticeable from abnormal distance.

Not me, lol, you should see my phone
If it gets a scratch you can't tell because there's so many

True with the Jet Black

but don't know why Space Gray didn't get a Space Gray ring though

Because it would stick out like a sore thumb on a solid black front. I'm guessing the majority of people who choose the black front want it to be uniform.

Yes but that's you doing it not someone else doing it too your phone. I would be like me smashing it on the ground.

Table wouldn't bother me, unless it was a really uneven hard surface (like concrete)
Obviously I can't speak for others

Shame how the boss's car got keyed a few days later. But it's only a slight scratch. Only see it in daylight when you look at that side.

Someone wants to see my $1,000 phone they need to hand me security deposit first, of $1K.

Also reason I refrain from handling other people's phones and other property. I would feel compelled to compensate them if I damaged their phone. If I want to check an item out, I go to the store and handle the display models.

I never like touching other people's phones
Would faint if I broke their $650+ phone

If I do I hold it above a large surface like a table so if I do drop it, it won't break their screen
