At the end of the day I personally find the jet black much more appealing between the two. And using it with just a skin the added grip is incredible.

Which skin are you using? Link?
Zagg InvisibileShield. You can only get them at the kiosks in the mall outside Apple stores. Only $20 and retain the perfectly glossy look/feel of the phone, without the worry of scratching it up.

I have a case but i dont know how i got this scratches
...
My phone is a week old..
I bought slickwrap but unfortunately they sent me wrong item...

I took applecare + and plan to use it naked.. coz no point protecting...
Its already scratched...

Using ringke slim now..

I've gone completely caseless since the iPhone 5s and decided to grab the jet black. I used the iPhone upgrade program, so I'm not worried about resale value with the cosmetic damages. I knew the phone would get smudgey on the back and there would be a lot of micro scratches (and trust me, there are tons!!). I really believe it adds some individuality to the phone and makes it a really unique experience

What you think gang, should we start a "my swirl better than your swirl thread", or "left handed swirl better than right handed swirl". How about "straight scratch vs swirl"? :rolleyes:o_O:confused::D

They identify elephants by tusk damage, and killer whales by fluke and tail nicks. We could start a JB iPhone identification / recognition system based on swirl / scratch patterns.

Do I have too much time on my hands? Just asking.

I hate to disappoint some of the people here (not really), but I'm now three days away from the three week mark several people mentioned of owning my jet black iPhone 7 without a case and still only have the one scratch from the first day.

But maybe you'll still be right and, in one of the next few days, several scratches will inexplicably appear on my phone.
I scratched mine in 3 days and I had taken extreme care of it

I currently have a matte black one but I need to sell since I'm switching to verizon and I'm thinking I might get jet black this time around. Cant decide .. i don't use cases or anything.

I recommend the Jet Black if you aren't going to use a case. I just replaced my MB 7 with a JB 7 Plus a few days ago and it provides a lot more grip than the other finish.

I have a jet black plus and I don't use a case. The phone is scratched to hell on the back. Still love it and will continue to use it as such. I also really still don't believe that anyone who uses without a case for several weeks can have 'no scratches' unless they line their pockets with microfiber and only ever lay their phone on napkins/tissues/paper whenever it is on a desk or something.

Out of curiosity, how do you carry your phone?

So this just happened to a colleague, no drops at all it just peeled off

This also happened to my JB 7 in the last few days. Had the phone 3-4 weeks. No case but always super careful and kept in my pockets on its own with no keys/coins etc. Phone hasn't been dropped and doesn't have a single mark/scratch on it.

It's as if it's chipped or peeled/flaked away? Took it to Apple Genius Bar last night and they refused to accept it was a manufacturing fault and kicked me out the door.

Really disappointed with this.

This is disappointing. Looks like the anodization is really weak on the 7000 series aluminum. The 6S Plus had problems with peeling/chipping as well. I thought the JB might be different because it undergoes a different polishing process, but I guess not.

I think in this case it's being accelerated by the wear from removing from your pocket, as most have that little lip that would make contact with that part of the phone.

The grip that people are really liking on the jet black phone is one reason why the iPhone 4/S was nice. The glass had good grip and now with wrap around gloss edges on the jet black, it's even better. I used a demo unit in Best Buy for a few minutes and I was very suprised and happy with how great it feels and how useful the gloss plate is. I am almost tempted to trade in my 6S for a jet black 7, these things are bad-a**.

Polishing would have nothing to do with adhesion. The anodization process needs to molecularly bond with the aluminum. The 7000 series alloys are more finicky with this bonding and also any lack of cleaning the parent metal prior to anodization would also make the bonding less likely.

Well spoke to Apple CS on the phone today and explained the issue to them. They said they weren't aware of this but have sent the photos to "engeneering" for their analysis. Apparently Apple will be in touch..... we'll see!

I've had my jet black for two months now and the back is very scratched with a lot of micro abrasions but it doesn't bother me at all. Gives it character :) I do take pretty good care of my phone, but I definitely don't baby it. As long as the screen and the cameras don't get scratched, I could care less. If the scratches and micro abrasions bother me that much, I could always keep it in a case.

My Jet Black is in a case but still has some micro scratches on the bottom since it's in a leather case with exposed bottom. I am bout ready to ditch the case though and say screw it, and enjoy my naked phone. It's worth a years worth of naked use to get less when I sell it next year (I do have AC+ in case anything bad happens).

I just bought another electronic that's cheaper and has a glossy finish (Nintendo 3DS XL) and it's nice that I don't give a crap if it gets scratched. Harder to do with a more expensive item but I might just go for it.

Agreed. The grip on the Jet Black has an identical feel to the front glass. Those who don't have a JB can get an idea of the amount of grip by sliding their finger across the alumimum of their non-JB phone and then comparing that to their screen. It's a pretty noticeable difference.

I appreciate the grip because I've been using mine without a case to help transition to the bigger screen size of the Plus.
