So, a patch (sorry...update) to iOS today and includes this -

Mail
• Always-visible controls to delete, move, reply to, or compose a message in conversation view
• Responses to encrypted emails are automatically encrypted when you have configured S/MIME
Fixes
• Fixes an issue in Mail where messages may appear out of order
• Addresses an issue in Mail where the conversation list may display empty rows
• Resolves an issue where Mail may crash when tapping the Share button in Quick Look

So nothing done by the looks of things to, y'know, have the app actually get the mail. Will wait for the thing to install and see what this means.

Sometimes, ya just can't make this stuff up...

ADDENDUM: Nope. Same lag. Nothing's been done...

If it can't handle it then not being able to get it solves the can't handle it part IMO 🤯
Yeah, still busted.

It’s really frustrating.

Updated to iOS 13.4 and Apple Mail is still a mess. I don’t see new emails in my inbox, only the badge. And sometimes not even a badge.

Used Outlook before but it doesn’t load the most of my iCloud emails anymore. Tried everything.

Isn’t there an email app which really works and cares about our privacy?

Mess it is ... still. 😣
Some have found alternatives. I have not found anything I like. 🧐
I have started using app specific to the email (ex: Gmail for Gmails) for now.

Thanks for saving me the effort of updating.

Spoke too soon when I said full iOS restore and data restore via iTunes fixed things for me. It seemed to start out better but has gotten worse again, now.

Seems like the process for notifications is a completely separate operation than the mail app itself. Like the notification process connects to the server and notifies of new email, but then the mail app has to connect again itself to actually retrieve the same message you were just notified of.

Assuming that Apple has to be aware of this issue, it’s really amazing that it still persists. What could the problem be that they seem to be willing to turn a blind eye?

That has been the issue for many - it temporarily fixes. At least until you really start using it.

I moved everything from iCloud to gmail and using gmail app works perfect.

I have moved most of my critical / important accounts to Protonmail and use the app.
No issues.

after updating to iOS 13.4 and macOS 10.15.4 Mail on my devices has been fixed.

all people have unique systems since they have various settings and other problems with their devices and systems. so this is not meant to its now been fixed. i have thoroughly tested it on my devices. i use Mail on both iPhone and mac for business and can (finally) rely on it again (as i was able to before).
sorry to hear that some people are still reporting problems.

(history: i have lost a great deal of email during the earlier updates. i have posted about this. so i complained a lot about Mail in the earlier updates. i can not duplicate any of the prior problems on my devices now. i have an older iPhone (6s))

What I have noticed with iOS 13 (now running 13.4) is that the notification number is slow to update. I have iCloud mail, Yahoo mail and a Microsoft exchange mail account. 13.4 seems to be quicker at retrieving e-mail vs 13.3.1. I remember iOS 12 not being the quickest to retrieve e-mail.

I have wrote to the Outlook support about the problem that Outlook doesn’t show up the most of the iCloud emails. I’ve also told them what I’ve already tried (reset iCloud account, delete iCloud account, readd it, delete Outlook and download it again). Nothing helped. They gave me the advices to reset my iCloud account, delete and readd it and reinstall Outlook. Seriously? Have they got help from the crappy Apple support?

Whatever. Later they have told me that they cannot do anything and I have to wait for a bugfix update. Maybe the fix will be in future updates. I have a deja vu.

But how we wrote before Apple Mail isn’t better than in iOS 13.0 beta 1. Apple always adds bugfixes about the mail app in the changelogs but they have never fixed any of these problems.

Looking for other E-Mail Apps now. Airmail looks nice too. In the Pro Version it has a privacy mode but I can still set real time notifications and enable picture loading.

I don’t wanna be upset because of these problems in these times. But Apple had time for 1 year to fix them. And they didn’t. It’s getting even worse.

(Tried to swipe this post with the stock iOS keyboard and had to correct every word by myself again. Thanks Apple.)

Annnnnd now I suddenly have an old email from yesterday on top of a new one from today.

Force quitting the mail app does nothing either

Thought this was specifically fixed in 13.4

Here’s a new odd behavior...
Yesterday Mail grouped a message from the Department of Labor with an email from my wife months ago. Totally different subject and obviously different sender.

Yeah. I’ve stopped caring. Apple can’t fix Mail. I assume it’s part of the overall RAM problems that plague iOS 13. I frequently get Safari page reloads with the notice “this page has reloaded because a problem occurred.” I’ve never had that problem in my 16 years of OS X/iPhone usage.

Maybe it’ll be fixed in iOS 14. But it’s sad. I’ve never been this let down by Apple software before because I can’t remember them ever letting such an egregious regression go unfixed. If they’d just apologize for it instead of pretending it doesn’t exist... Apple’s customers deserve better.

I've given up too! Seems the only thing that does help is closing out the mail app after every time I use it. Was a pain at first but now it's almost automatic. At least then the badge icon is right with the number of emails and they are there when I open it. But if I forget to close out app, same old crap happens.

Yup, gave up, installed the Gmail app for my primary account (which is Gmail) and I forward my other, non-primary account (which is not Gmail) to my Gmail account.

It is sad that it has come to this, but with no acknowledgment from Apple about a problem they have clearly created with iOS 13, they obviously just don't care.

On top of the current horrendous app closing/app reloading issues in iOS13 on my iPad Pro, I am feeling completely let down by Apple's software at the moment - and I say that as someone who's been exclusively in the Apple-ecosystem since the mdi/late-90s.

They can, and damn well should, be doing better.

We are seeing history repeat itself. Oh well Apple you had a good run....
