So, mail is still broken for me. Support tells me the final stage is a full reset of the phone. I don't particularly want to do this as I suspect the problem is their side, rather than my device.

Has anyone fixed the issues (no auto updates/freezing on downloading 1 of 1 etc) with a hard reset?

What exactly is wrong with your Mail mate? I've spoken to Apple many times, but they themselves just do not know what's wrong with it. They've made me wipe my phone and reinstall my OS from scratch. After both those lengthy and time consuming tasks it made no difference whatsoever!

What suggest you try is logging out of iCloud on all your devices and then logging back in.

Mail, Reminders sync and Calendar sync are all severely messed up!

I have three different accounts including iCloud. All now set to 15 minutes fetch.

They don't.

When I pull down, messages come through from hours (or days) ago. But they don't come down fully - I try to view them and they are blank.

If I delete messages and pull down, they reappear.

Then...

Sometimes...

It works perfectly for a period of time (hours or days). Then returns to the same behaviour.

Given that other mail apps work, and the times this app occasionally works perfectly, I suspect it is at apples end (rather than on the device).

I have tried to fix by deleting app, deleting accounts etc.

Quite frustrating really.

Did logging out of iCloud help you?

I assume I need to log out on the iPhone (rather than the Mac as well?)

magicdesgn you will need to log out of iCloud on both devices.

It helped a little. I was getting severely delayed emails on my Mac. iPhone email notifications were coming through fine, but like everyone else, I still need to pull down to receive the new emails in the Inbox.

Reminders do not sync well at all between devices. eg. If a reminder notification arrives on both devices and I want to be reminded in an hour, if I ask to be notified in an hour on my Mac, it doesn't always cut across to my iPhone.

Calendar reminders are broken full top!

Let us know how you get along please.

Ok. Thanks. Will logging out remove any data (or does it go back to how it was once I log in again?) I.e. Apple pay and everything else that is currently setup on my phone...

For me everything was fine. emails, reminders, notes, Apple Pay etc was all as it was before I logged out. But you MUST follow the instructions carefully. Many years ago I didn't and was left with duplicate contacts, calendar entries etc.

The implication from Apple is that it's your phone's fault (a modest revision of their usual reasoning), while failing to acknowledge that this happening on a *lot* of users' iOS devices - which suggests its, yes, their problem. That they've created.
The last patch (sorry...upgrade) did nothing to address this, even though Forums are awash in complaints and a few Media had already been on about this, too. Unfortunately, with much of Apple Park closed down, I don't see a resolution on this anytime soon - unless they have some keen intern working out of his parent's basement doing nothing but trying to find the solution - software or server.

I think a keen intern with focus on the problem at hand would be a welcome relief compared to the current Apple lack of interest in resolving issues

Didn't work - just created lots of extra work, like re adding Apple pay etc.

My concern is this is a major bug that we can see. I wonder how many security issues there are that we cannot see....

Sorry mate. I don't know why that happened.

It's funny…my phone is still running 12.4.1, with push turned off and fetch set to manual, and it still insists on retrieving mail on its own, which is not the desired behavior.

Maybe I should update to 13 to stop it!

My XS shipped with 12.1.x, which didn't have any issues at all with Mail.

After I updated to 12.4, even when I do tell it to fetch mail, it takes twice as long to complete, as the process goes through some background machinations that feels like they're running at half speed compared to 12.1.

Mail on my old iPad on 10.3 feels lightning fast in comparison accessing the same account.

That's progress I guess.

Composed email disappears with no way to retrieve:

I spent hours writing a very long email only to find the entire thing disappeared with no way to retrieve it. (Yes some people still use that ancient technology)

Mail app was left open & I tapped the power button to sleep the iPad screen.

On return less than 1 minute later the entire email was completely gone. The mail app was still open but the compose email window was gone. Nothing in drafts either.

I realise the mail app is a buggy mess but did not see this issue mentioned before. Very frustrating.

I started writing the email all over again and made sure not to sleep the iPad. However I minimised the email compose window to view the main mail screen and on return the email had gone once again. This time part of it was in drafts but a huge chunk of it was missing.

I have well and truly learnt my lesson and will not being composing emails in the mail app!

Nor will I keep multiple tabs open in safari without sharing to notes app as they disappear and neither will I add websites to reading list which self clears the entire list within 5 minutes of adding any website.

Really like iPadOS features but the bugs are plentiful in my experience. Hard to believe this but iOS 11 was actually smoother.

What device (how much working memory) did you use when lost your email you were composing?

iPad Pro 9.7”.

I don’t think I had much open in the background - mail, safari (no tabs), Notes & clock app.

Honestly sounds like a memory management issue. 2 gb might not be enough anymore. I have 4 gb (since 2015) and it solved a whole host of issues. I now consider working memory as part of my purchase consideration. It’s why I chose a new 2020 IPP for my son (6 gb) instead of an older/cheaper model.

My (uneducated) guess as well. Although I don’t understand why the email didn’t save to drafts.

I also don’t understand why in 2020 iOS/iPadOS doesn’t have a memory swap which offloads the full memory onto the ssd, like a real computer.

No exaggeration (and it is hard to believe I am saying this) but iOS 11.2 was less buggy than 13.4 in my experience. 13 is definitely snappier though and I like the new features.

Just to reiterate how bad mail has become, I didn't receive any email notifications to the new posts on this or any thread I'm part of on MacRumoUrs!

Looks like they didn't pay the intern enough. New 'update' today -

iOS 13.4.1 includes bug fixes for your iPhone.

• Fixes an issue where devices running iOS 13.4 could not participate in FaceTime calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier
• Addresses a bug with the Settings app where choosing Bluetooth from the quick actions menu on the Home screen would fail

Yeah. Nothing to do with Mail.

iOS 13.4.1 - iPhone XS Max

Had a 1 badge on the Mail App. Opened the app, nothing new in my „all“ inbox. Swiped back to the inbox list, shows one new email. Gone back to the „all“ inbox. No new email at first, but then it showed up. Opened it and it was marked as read.

I have reported this in the past a lot of times but Apple closed the feedbacks with „fixed with iOS 13.0“. I really think there is no quality control at Apple anymore. They are ignoring or closing the feedbacks and putting in the release note that it’s fixed. But I bet they haven’t even tried it themselves more than one time.

Later I’ve used my iPad. Badge says 1 new email but it’s the same which I’ve mentioned above. It was from my iCloud account. lol

Also what is the point of coloured flags. I sort different emails with different colour flags but they just keep reverting to all red after a few minutes.

sorry to hear about yr bad experience.
in yr setup, where have you set it to save Drafts? on the server, or locally on yr device?

It is on the default, save to server. I checked the backend and it was not there either.
