Has it already been floated that maybe they’ve switched to some kind of cloud-based setup? That instead of the local mail app reliably connecting to and retrieving the email for each of your accounts via POP or IMAP, it’s all aggregated remotely on Apple’s servers and then delivered to your local app?

I am currently getting no mail updates or notifications. I open the app and the emails have not fetched since the last time I opened the app (days ago). it's set to fetch every 15 mins.

had similar issues for months now. it started to work (briefly) a week ago but then became worse again.

the fact that it did briefly fix itself suggests it is a remote issue

Can anyone recommend a mail app for imap which is secure and also allows for custom notification sounds?

Gmail seems like working like the Apple Mail app (syncs every 15 minutes), but I have to enable background activity to can use it.

Guys, something very very very strange has happened to the already messed up Mail situation. I'm using my .mac email address and the Mail app.

On my Mac, all of a sudden this morning, I have 93 unread emails - these consist of all the emails I deleted or read and then deleted. HOWEVER, on my iPhone, I have the correct number of emails, totalling 27. It looks like all the deleted items from 29/03/20 have reappeared in my Inbox and have also been marked as unread.

Has anyone else had this?

Update: I've realised that if I delete an email or move and email to another folder on the Mac, the changes will cut across to the iPhone. BUT if I delete or move an email on the iPhone, it doesn't cut across to the Mac Mail app. So looks like the Mail app on the Mac is broken.

Got to ask, have you restarted your iPhone?

Yup. Took my own advice when things go wrong and "off'd and on'd" it and also logged out of iCloud and back in again on both devices.

I just got off the phone with Apple who said they couldn't understand what was wrong and that because I'm using El Capitan they couldn't assist me :( and

It’s getting beyond a parody of a parody isn’t it? Their software blows chunks!!

I’m using a .me email address (I know...not the same) and haven’t experienced anything similar to what you’ve described above.

I've said it many many many times before, but here I go again... I've been a Mac user since 1995. I'm a video editor and have used Apple products for as long as I can remember. BUT since they started putting their iPhones and iPads first, everything else has gone to pot. They've neglected their Pro users, their loyal customers and quality of software for the sale of i-devices.

Truly fed up. I'm going to see if this matter resolves itself. If not, I'm fecked!

Thanks mate. And that's what's so concerning. I always check Macrumors and Google before posting questions and queries like this one and couldn't find anything reported of such a major situation, so realised it must be something unique to my setup. But the thing is, I've not done anything different since last night. I've not adjusted settings, made amendments. Nothing, other than delete emails or move emails into folders in exactly the same way I have done before.

Strange!!!

On Mac Mail using a .mac account, how would I turn on Push email? It seems that I am now also not receiving emails as Push. I need to click the Get New eMail button in the Mailbox tab in the task bar!

I finally decided to stop using the default mail app. My business is considered an essential business during this pandemic/lock down and I cannot miss anymore important emails. So it is the Gmail App for my Gmail account and the Outlook App for my Exchange account. Things work so much smoother for me now.

I really would like to jump ship away from Apple Mail now. But all my business to date has been done via my .mac address. Right now it would be far too risky to change email address and start all over.

I've also just realised that I for the last hour on my Mac there's been one email downloading, but there is nothing there! I've given up the hope for tonight (for now), but if things don't improve after the next iOS update, I'm going to have to take the unenviable route of going to Gmail.

set up a forward to gmail and then set up an alias in gmail.

Just noticed something. Can someone please see if they notice the same thing too in the picture below. It's of 2 emails within my .mac Inbox on my Mac.

I deleted the AVForums email on my iPhone but the deletion did not cut across to the Mac....

Thanks for the suggestion mate. I'll Google how to do this tomorrow. My head is about to explode with everything that seems to be going wrong around me over the last couple of weeks.

@scouser75:

Just be careful to keep an eye on the original .mac account. Gmail does not take kindly to bulk forwarding to one of their email addresses. It's often a tactic used in spamming so they tend to reject the mail. Whether they do so really depends at what stage of the mail delivery the forward occurs (there's a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff involved).

Anyway, I mention this because the .mac is used for business so you'll want to make sure you don't forward and delete, that way you can check the original account for a bit.

Another way to do this (that I found works better), is to setup Gmail to poll the .mac account. If .mac supports POP or IMAP connections you could have Gmail pull the mail in. It won't be instantaneous (its fetching frequency is dynamic and depends on the amount of mail you regularly get, but I think it's at least once an hour) and you will have to give Gmail your credentials for .mac (can you set per-application passwords? I don't know) so that might be a deal-breaker (it would be for me).

Hi All,

Firstly, sorry, the image in my post above didn't show so here it is again. Do you notice what I noticed?

Screen Shot 2020-03-31 at 21.52.38.png

And last night I realised even more issues:

* My messages app didn't show the contact names of the people who'd sent the message. Only showed their phone number.

* I found a very very very old email had been moved into my Junk box.

* In iTunes, it shows that my phone has never been backed up, but I only recently backed it up!

Screen Shot 2020-04-01 at 08.54.13.png

* My email and Reminders notifications had turned themselves off.

Something most definitely isn't right. Have I been hacked?!?!?! Not sure, but I am worried. Hence I'm minded to wipe the phone and start from scratch!

Guys, may I ask for a favour please? If anyone is using an iCloud / .mac email address along with a Mac and iPhone, could you please check if your Push emails are coming through as they should be on your Mac and iPhone?

As we all know, things are broken, but day-by-day they just seem to get worse. I now no longer get Push emails on my iPhone or Mac. Not even a notification of new email on time. Today, email notifications are between 20-30 minutes since the email was first sent.

To receive emails, I need to go into the Mail app on iPhone and then wait for the mail to come through. On the Mac, I need to click the Get New Mail box.

Ridiculous!

Working fine for me on an iPhone X, iPP 10.5 and an iMac. The only persistent issue that I have and just accepted is that sometimes when I check email after getting a notification the email isn't there. But a quick tap of the Filter button will show them. But no problems with getting Push notifications immediately. On the iMac it's immediate, including the actual email itself.

Thanks Chappy. I think I might try to rebuild my Mail app and see if that helps. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mail/mlhlp1227/mac
