Yeah it looks like I am going to either not replace my iPad mini, or possibly replace it with an air 2.

After reading so much about the nexus 9 I just can't justify spending that much money on it.

Have you considered one of the Samsung Galaxy S tablets, either the 8.4 or 10.1. The reviews I've read have been positive, and the 8.4 has been the closest tablet I've seen to the mini in size. There were also some very good deals on the older Pro models a couple weeks ago.

The Galaxy S tablets do get the reviews you would expect from a premium Android device, but it stinks we have to compromise with non-stock android.

I am not a fan of samsung products and I prefer the stock android experience which is why I was hoping the nexus 9 was going to be the one. If I find a sweet black friday deal or something I may still pick one up though.

I seriously don't get the Apple fanboys that come in here expecting people to brown-nose Apple. What's worse is that they feel that they're allowed to have their own opinion yet no one else can.

Truth hurts. Wear a helmet.

The iPad is a better built device than the Nexus 9.

I have owned 4 android devices. I'm not some blind fanboy.

You hold the Nexus 7 in your hand and you think "Wow! This is a great tablet for the price!"

You hold the Nexus 9 in your hand and you think "Dang. Not sure why this was so expensive."

I'm tempted to try one out because of the long holiday return period.

There's a lot to like about Android 5.0 but the Nexus 9's hardware is severely lacking. My friend got one and here is the screen out of the box:

Oh the irony. Light bleed has been a staple of iOS and Mac's for the last 5 years. However, my new iPhone 6 is flawless. First of approx 20 devices I have bought from Apple that didn't have any.

At the end of the day you are on an Apple forum. Doesn't matter that you are in the alternative section. On MR you will always get flamed for either liking Android or not liking Apple ;)

Best thing you can do is NOT taking it seriously, get popcorn and laugh it off.

Then you don't understand the whole point of Android ;)

That may apply to the early days but Android has matured a LOT over the past few years.

But yes, it is great to customise.

My nan at 75 years of age wanted a one button phone for emergencies. The elderly phones are ugly and she hates them all. I got her an Android and customised it elderly friendly.

When she turns her phone on she got for big buttons. One with my picture, one with a picture of her daughter and with a police car and one with a red cross .

She punches either picture and the phone dials the right number. Want to see any other OS where you can do that.

The point is, Android is not just for the tinkerer.

Seen the iPhone sub forum lately? Can't knock sense into them. They think Android is a buggy mess:rolleyes:

After some consideration I think I'll keep my Nexus 7 2013 and won't upgrade to the 9.

Reasons:

- Too expensive for just a few hardware upgrades. Still 2GB RAM, not a fan of Nvidia chips, don't care for 2K display (1080P on my 7 is perfectly fine), don't care for camera upgrade on a tablet, etc.

- The Nexus 7 will receive Lollipop this month and it will be like a fresh new start.

- 8.9 might be too big after getting used to the 7 form factor.

- I love the 4:3 aspect ratio, but I watch a lot of TV shows and YouTube videos on a tablet, so the 16:9 aspect ratio of the 7 is better.

Biggest reason is still price. If it had been 299€ (take out the 2K display, for example) I would have probably made the upgrade.

Exactly my thoughts and why I won't get the Nexus 9. Google made a big mistake dropping the Nexus 7 line and going with a much pricier product that just isn't worth it.

He only visits this side of the fence when a new android product is released and he can find negative reviews of it. That being said, it isn't too hard to find negative reviews of the N9 as the general consensus is that the hardware is a big fail.

Hey reviews on Amazon and Best Buy are decidedly mixed with build quality being the number one complaint.

You folks are aware BB is offering $100 total in trade in for a tablet towards the Nexus 9?

So a done deal $299 for me. If this tablet meets your needs and approval for form factor and performance, you probably spent more on something prior anyway.

In the early days it was. Obviously they have not used an Android device using either KitKat or the latest firmware which will be out soon.

I was disappointed in using my Nexus 7 for over a year because too many of the apps that I used on my iPad, did not have a tablet version for my Nexus 7. They were just scaled up phone apps. Over the past year, most of those apps have been updated ands now have outstanding apps that I enjoy using on BOTH my Nexus 4 and 7.

I will never give up using an iPhone and iPad and I will always be a Nexus user as long as they keep making them. I'll be getting a Nexus 6 once I can easily order one on the website without waiting a month to get it.

This thing looks like crap. The best thing the nexus line had going for it was price and now that it's as much or almost as much as Apple products what's the point?

----------

It will flex... The iPad air 2 will Bend like a twig.

Yeah maybe if you're fat and you sit on it. Apple blows it out of the water when it comes to feel in hand.
