So M1 Max with 32 Core GPU matches RTX 3080 Mobile.

Yep, that's what I said in the post - I realised my mistake during the googling, much to my delight! ?
Anyway, only one way to find out how fast this thing is... I've just bought one! Whatever the final scores are I need a new MacBook anyway and it's gonna beat the living daylights out of the GT330M in this 2010 17" MBP with dual-core i7 2.66 GHz!!! I may literally s**t myself inside-out when this beast turns up and I experience its performance: there's no possible way I'm not gonna be incredibly impressed! ? 11 years is a good enough innings for a laptop, but I think I thoroughly deserve a new one at this point.
So far I think the consensus is same as the W5700x and therefore slower than the W6800.
EDIT: as long as you are not hitting the ASICS in the M1 (the ProRes/HEVC encoder/decoder). If you are, then it will be significantly faster because from my understanding Apple doesn’t use any of the encoding hardware on AMD cards.

All this doesn't do me any good. Because at the end of the day why do most people buy a 3080/3090? To PLAY games. If the platform wont let me play AAA games across the ecosystem then what good is it? Sure its fast....no doubt. Does it help video professionals? No doubt yes! But for most of us who need it to work on the rest of the industries "fun stuff". NOPE.

Nope, the 512bit memory bus (running @ 400GB/s) is on the M1 Max SoC, which you can get with either 32GB or 64 GB of RAM...
From looking at geekbench, I'd think it'd be ~15% faster than the W5700X.
I don't play games, but the new GPU's are very relevant. Lot's of people don't play games but need all the GPU power they can get.
Yep totally agree. I hope these new chips help drive your business needs or hobbies. Unfortunately mine are a bit different.
Luckily there are seem to be a lot of SKU's GPU wise, more than I expected to be honest. Lot's of flexibility in terms of budget and need.

Huh? People that need the GPU power need it. Even then, some people would throw more money at it for more performance.
and a unified memory architecture so it shouldnt spend time copying data back and forth to the CPU memory ?
It is harder to make it this way than provide consistent 400GB/s for the MAX.
Matches at what exactly? The RTX 3080 is a gaming GPU, so it should be assessed at how it performs in games.
When reviewing GPU benchmarks of notebooks such as the Razer, it must be remembered that there's a difference between, for example, RTX 3080 vs. 3080 mobile.
The desktop Nvidia is around 60% faster than the equivalent mobile GPU.

Yes, I've been talking about MOBILE 3080, not DESKTOP 3080. People seem confused somehow. We probably need compared with MOBILE 3080 cause that's what Apple compared with.

We dont even know if it uses M series name. So far, M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max are mobile SoC chips and all Apple Silicon product so far are laptops and desktop with mobile chips. So it might be different on desktop computers.
