Any non-Apple apologists tried 9.1 yet on a 5S?

8.4.1 is pure smoothness, but I doubt 9.1 has improved much... nor am I willing to gamble again.
Sure name calling always facilitates an adult discussion; so thanks for that.

On my two 5s's at home there is nothing out of the ordinary with regard to lag or stutter.

Since I first commenting here a week ago, one common problem have raised: some people argue like religious people, some argue with methodical ways, some argue with feeling, some argue like an atheist.

Fact: iOS 9 is slower than iOS 8. That's a fact. Fact. Fact, not feeling.

Once more, fact.

I honestly don't understand why "religious" and "feeling" guys keep refuting the fact.

To make things simple, I suggest people just stop arguing. It won't make a dent or change their way of thinking. People believe what they want to believe, and that's a fact (irony).
Basically no one is changing another's mind and I concur. Might as well accept there are varied opinions and probably varied results and go from there.

If your main interest is smoothness, then don't do it. So far CC,NC, Spotlight have a more or less noticable lag on my phone. And i have the 1-3s black screen delay when i am opening some apps. IMO the phone is usable and i appreciate iOS9 adblockers, better memory management and security fixes, but there shouldn't be such a trade off.

I don't understand why you keep harping about "opinion" and "changing mind" when the lag exists for every single person. This is hardware we are talking about which performs the same for everyone unless external factors weigh in which they aren't

Lag exists in every device.Period.I know because I just downgraded to 9.0.2 and it was like a whiff of fresh air

I disagree that 9.1 is worse then 9.0.2
Iv been in the public betas and it got better each time. 9.1 is not 8.4 level but its better then before.

Like someone said I think this has to do with metal, maybe apple will eventually fix this in 9.2 or ios 10.

I'm thankful that there are a lot of people who agree with me and also think that lag to this degree is unacceptable. I am so annoyed and disheartened at the people who come at me trying to tell me that either the lag doesnt exist or it doesnt matter.

The reason why I say that you guys are ruining our user experiences is because unless the vast majority of us complain and make noise about this issue that has been going on since the launch of iOS 7, they will keep it up. Lets face it, iOS 9 has been by far the WORST update to one year old hardware. The lag in the control centre, the lag in the multitasking UI (WHICH STILL EXISTS DESPITE THE CHANGELOG SAYING IT WAS FIXED), app opening slow downs, and even reports of iPhone 6s Plus sluggishness. It is simply unacceptable. Four years ago, when you got an iPhone you knew that it's speed and reliability would be maintained across two years, without question. Lets look at the 4s -- It ran iOS 5 amazingly. It ran iOS 6 amazingly. Heck, I would even go as far to say that it ran iOS 7 decently too, in my opinion even better than the iPhone 6 handles iOS 9.

I get frustrated because some of you guys (e.g. @C DM and @newellj) keep making excuses -- keep trying to downplay the problem. Why do you keep doing this? Like for real -- as I've said before -- the only thing that can come out of us complaining is better software. If iOS gets bad reviews, Apple is more inclined to change and make iOS better. As it stands, iOS is on a downward spiral. And I'm sorry to say, but it's people like you (along with certain tech sites) who allow Apple to maintain this low level of quality. To me it's a shame.

But, whatever. I know people are probably going to reply to this with "BUT NOT ALL PPL EXPERIENCE LAG Y DO U HATE APPLE Y CANT U BE HAPPY ITS NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL" etc. etc.... It's just sad imo

This complaining has been going on in thread after thread since iOS 7 days, and has been much more popular, widespread, and to a larger degree especially with iOS 7. Clearly that has yielded results if it seems that the same complaints are still there year after year.

As for discussions, if you are thinking that people are downplaying problems, there are people overplaying them as well. Is it that unnecessary hyperbole should be just overlooked?

Yup. It should be. Please tell me what negativity can come from overplaying a negative aspect of an Operating System? What could possibly go wrong with that? Nothing. I'll even give an example:

The issues with skeuomorphism in the pre-iOS 7 days were EXTREMELY overplayed -- people were making it out to be such a huge issue. I mean yeah, it was ugly in some places, but my god people complained about it a lot. But what happened from that? Apple got rid of it and radically changed the design.

Underplaying an issue is a far bigger issue, because it gives the impression that we should be content with less than great experiences.

There is basically one or two metrics that will sway Apple: loss of sales and/or market share. No amount, I repeat, no amount, of B&M is going to cause Apple to change its current approach (unless the B&M happens to come from Apple's C-suite).

How about treating an issue realistically? Just because one is less worse than the other doesn't mean that either is good.

I hope this is not a joke. Source :p

Yeah, a joke, sort of, but not really. The source is the back and forth in the U.S. in Congress and in the courts right now about whether and to what extent information on devices like phones should be available to law enforcement authorities on demand. One very recent article indicated that Apple is telling courts that it has absolutely no ability to decrypt information on iOS 8 devices that have a passcode set. Apparently all iOS 7 devices can be unpacked by Apple and the device's contents made available to law enforcement authorities. Hence the jest about the U.S. rolling iOS devices back to iOS 7.

I guess humor (irony, really) that needs that much explanation is a stretch... :D The privacy issues are not a joke, though, at least not in my opinion, and I back Cook's position on privacy.

atleast we can get rid of the animation totally. Reduce motion makes a fade in instead of the zooming in and out.

That is absolutely the right response if you feel that way, and I for one am not going to argue about that. I agree that iOS is far from perfect, but it's better than the current alternatives.

Solution to all problems for everyone.Apple should allow us to downgrade to any version we want. For instance just look at the amount of version choices I have for Google Nexus 7 :)

Things I and many other surfaced in a number of threads back when all this stuff was being discussed over and over after iOS 7 was released. Clearly all that has made a difference.

I also believe that this is a good idea too. The problem is Apple can brag about "fastest OS adoption" on their keynote anymore.

Also, from historic data, it won't happen.

I'm not going to take you as literally as you sound. My devices don't lag, they don't lag because im "blind", they don't lag because they don't lag.

Every once in a while, I'll open an app and it will open so smoothly that it actually throws me off a bit. THAT'S what I remember iOS 8.4 being like ALWAYS (except for buggy music.app, but we won't get into that right now). As far as opening apps and UI animation smoothness, iOS 8.4 was king (8.3 probably more than 8.4, but they were about the same).

How come sometimes the animations are fluid and sometimes not? Even if I haven't do anything different? I'll open an App, watch it lag, then open another app, then open the first app again, and suddenly it's smooth, then I can close that same app and open it again and see it lag again. There's no rhyme or reason to the lag. It seems very random or sporadic.

I wish we could somehow figure out the root cause of all of this (if there is a root cause) and stop the background process that is causing the phone to choke.

For the people that don't have any lag or at least not experiencing it, they sure like to comment alot on the threads about lag. It'd be different if there was suggestions to be made other than the "reduced transparency" or the mythical "clean install/restore" to try and fix things. This thread is about iOS 9 and lag. If you don't have the lag or it is not bothering you, why waste your time in this thread? It is great that it does not affect you, go enjoy your device. Without these lag and performance threads, this forum wouldn't have much activity.
