I am losing approx 1% battery per hour after monitoring over the last couple days. Find my in the Bluetooth settings is off. It still appears in the find my app but only for directions on last location and not with pin point accuracy. Spoke with Apple and booked in for Genius Bar for then to look into. However, I am also considering taking back to the store I purchased from to exchange and get a new AirPods as it’s possible I just have a defective one!

Wouldn’t bother with a return since they’re all doing it

Yes, it does appear that way that they are all doing it, but I’m still curious whether the first batch or second batch have faults with either the hardware as opposed to software and only one way to find out is maybe to purchase a new pair and then monitor once again. I will then keep my appointments with Genius Bar and also follow up with customer care to let them know about what I have done so far. I will also keep everyone updated as I believe it is quite important that we feed as much information as possible in order for a quick turnaround and fix.

So something else I’ve noticed. Eg if my AirPods go from 100% to 97%, and then I put them in the case, the case went from 60% to 57% to charge them back to 100%. Therefore 1% charge of AirPods = 1% usage of case. How can this make any sense or be normal when the case is supposed to provide MULTIPLE charges of the AirPods??? AirPods Pro gen 1 didn’t do this crap.

Case is meant to have 30hrs of charge, meaning it can charge the AirPods 6 times to 100% I believe! At this rate, due to AirPods constantly draining the case I probably get 3 times! And even less the longer the case isn’t charged due to constant drain. Apple either needs to fix the issue or admit the new tech will not allow for their predicted charge times. Grrr so annoying! And you are correct, my gen 1 lasted longer then my new gen 2 lol

So I went to the Apple Genius Bar today with the same AirPods Pro 2 (the store I purchased them from said I had to go to Apple) to talk about the issues. The assistant I had was very helpful to a point! I explained the issues of battery drain, the fact the battery depletes approx 1% per hour and that I had turned off find my and auto ear detection And it still did it, I also provided and timeline or notes. The assistant did the usual diagnostics test. This came back clear with no issues found. After a brief discussion with her she went to her manager who advised that transparency mode could cause the battery to drain and maybe I consider turning this off when not using this feature. I explained, I had the generation one pro‘s and I never had to do this, the technology is the same so why am I being advised to turn this off. Also, where on apples website does it say in order to get the claimed battery usage you would have to turn transparency mode off. It doesn’t. Unfortunately the manager was doing a repair so wasn’t able to speak with me. The assistant advised I could go back to the retailer I purchased them from to get a refund or exchange or leave the airpods with them for 3 hours so they can monitor. I didn’t leave with them as I don’t have time to be sitting round for 3 hours. So that’s that. it’s a real shame. Apple need to acknowledge the issues and ether provide a fix or patch or do a recall.

My gen one pro’s I could nearly get 4-5 days before a full charge is required, and now my gen 2s I am at 2 and a half days.

We just have to hope it’s software and gets fixed. I’d the hardware is genuinely that much worse then I’d be surprised.

I’m seeing a lot of posts of people having battery drain on the AirPods Pro 2 case.
I had a similar issue, it used to drain over 20% or more a day.

This is what solves it for me:

- Go to the find my app
- Remove AirPods Pro from the Find my App devices list (this causes them to also unpair from your phone)
- Open the case of your AirPods Pro as you normally would on the first time that you pair them.
- Pair them!

This fixed the issue for me and I haven’t noticed it draining battery ever since.

If you got any questions let me know.

Also let us know if this solution works for you or not.
That worked for me!! It was killing me that my new Pros 2 were draining faster than my 3 year old Pros 1

I’m having the exact same issue. Discovered it by chance. I’m less than 48 hours, the case lost 25% of charge without using it, and the AirPods show the charge symbol all the time. One time I even noticed a 10% charge difference between the left and the right AirPod.
I had an appointment today. They ran some tests (the genius said that they didn’t have many tools yet, because it was a new product) and it showed that everything was ok.
They made me unpaired the AirPods and reset the iPhone settings and wait to see if it keeps happening.
They are calling me back in Tuesday to see how it went.
I honestly don’t think this is going to solve it.
If it is a hardware problem, the batteries won’t last long, if the case is constantly depleting and the AirPods charging nonstop.

I tried this. But why does every time i remove the airpods from the Find My app then after 0.1s later it will pop up again. So i can't remove it from the Find My app device list. Anyone?

I turned off FindMy for AirPods 3 today. Will keep an eye on battery drain in the next few days.

Doesn't work for me.
Removed from find my and re-paired a couple of times now. Also disabled find my network and ear detection. Still losing battery 1% per hour.

Quick update.

2 hours went by and the battery in the case ( AirPods Gen 3 ) lost 3% battery life. I have disabled FindMy, find my network and ear detection.

At this point, im guessing its an issue with latest firmware. I bought Gen 3 AirPods almost a year ago.

edit: few minutes gone by and ive lost another 1%.

Edit 2: An hour went by, and case battery is holding at 90%.

Yes, by all accounts this issue affects ALL AirPods Pro gen 2. And it IS a firmware or software issue or potentially a hardware issue or design flaw across all of them. I have yet to hear of anyone having a pair that performs normally compared to APP1

That's disappointing. I was thinking about going Apple Store for a replacement.

Everyone who has gotten replacement so far has reported same issue. Do let us know if your experience is different though. Currently there is no fix and not even any acknowledgement by apple or the media. Most probably don’t notice?

Unfortunately it appears to be across the whole range and any replacement will present the same issues, I suspect. i took mine to an Apple Store, they ran diagnostic and all was fine, and thus were not able to offer a replacement. However, they Offered to monitor the battery for 3 hours which would have been evident of the battery drain (I wasn’t able to leave them with Apple at the time, might need to go back so they can do this as it needs highlighting).

I am more or less getting two days before battery is very low and needs a full charge. Very disappointing.

Airpods 2 here, battery case rapidly losing charge. Already tried FindMy disable, forgetting device, auto detection off… no fix. Had bought it Dec 24…

I have this same problem with my 3rd gen AirPods. If I go into settings and turn off Find My Network, it’ll turn on again later when I go to use my AirPods.

I also cannot remove my AirPods from the Find My app. No matter how many times I try, they stay in the list of devices.

So a few months in now and unfortunately this appears to still be an issue across all APP Gen 2’s. It’s primarily the biggest issue if you don’t use the buds for that long between case charges. Eg putting the buds back in at 97% will use 3% of the case just to charge back up. But if you use the buds to 50% and then put them back in the case it won’t use anywhere near 50% of the case to charge them back up.

No known fix yet that I’m aware of for these issues. Sad that apple killed the great battery life/management of the APP1.

I tried the removing from find my and repairing and have not had the issue since. I charged mine the 24th and now still at 44%. Before the case would go into the red after 3-4 days or so.

I guess Im blessed. Purchased yesterday 1-2-23 APP2 and charged up last night from 62% out of the box and it took about 3 1/2 hours, finish at 9pm. It's now 12:30 pm the next day 1-3-23 and my case is still at 100%.
Original FW Version 5A377 Case 3.64.0.
This morning the FW Version 5B58 and the Case is 51.11.1 model number shows A2698

Apple's quality on AirPods is horrible. After a software issue on my AirPods Pro 1st gen that resulted in them being bricked...I hesitantly decided I'll buy the new AirPods Pro 2. I'm now having the same issue reported here with the case battery drain. It never hit 100% charge once. Out of the box, it was around 60ish percent and over the last couple of days, it is now down to 20%. Apple software will show the charging of the AirPods but the case will only show the battery even while plugged in to charge.

A funny thing happened while typing this. I tried charging using my Apple Watch charger and it actually shows it charging now. Too early to tell if it will charge up to 100% and/or not quickly drain. This first positive sign though...I'll give it a couple more days but this looks like a return for me.

Update: After using the Apple Watch charger it has charged to 100% and hasn't significantly drained the battery like it was. Oddly...using the lighting connection still won't charge and still will show only the battery while plugged in. Not sure why only wireless charging works and direct connection doesn't.
