none of these leaks seem to be getting any better

They really don't.

Were there leaks about an edge to edge screen or OLED this go around that maybe I missed? I don't care what the back looks like on almost any phone, the front is my biggest concern.

Production of Apple iPhone 7 has reportedly started with three models rumored to be coming

The report cites a tipster who added that three variations of the iPhone 7 are being manufactured. There will be the regular model, an Apple iPhone 7 Plus and an Apple iPhone 7 Pro or Plus Premium.

I was afraid of this. If true, what will the iPhone 7 Plus Pro version have that the others don't?
yep...the features everyone wants will only be on the higher end more expensive models. These will be called "Pro" or "Plus" and come with a higher price tag. I'll bet they still start with 16GB of storage too.

They better not or they'll get crucified. Not the time to do that after what will be 2 down quarters.

Those will be all the models you'll be able to purchase...

Wtf is Apple doing? They're becoming Samsung of 2013 when they had a million forks of premium Galaxy hand sets with a kitchen sink approach to useless features.

After seeing leaked photos of the iPhone 7 and cringing how ugly it will be wasting more people's money, I gotta say Apple peaked on iPhone design and iOS years ago.

Peak of iPhone design - 4 and 5 series
Peak of iOS design - iOS4-iOS6

Since the Chinese mostly manufacture all our gadgets and know the secret recipe, we have been spoiled by the Chinese brands when it comes to value. I just don't see the innovation coming from Apple anymore, internally or externally. No wonder Tim Cook predicted a dip in sales. Same camera hump and reposition the antenna bands and call it iPhone 7.

Is Apple hitting a wall that Sony experienced in 2006? Seems that way. I really do hope Huawei or one of these Chinese copycats starts dominating in the next decade. Less youngsters are using Facebook right now. And less people will buy iPhones. Like arcades and fighting games that were once popular. Passing fads that define different decades. Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna were bigger and had more hits in the 1980's than 1990's.

Perhaps Apple will be big in this 2010's decade but maybe not so much in the next one when another one carries the torch. As much as $230B cash (without adjusting to inflation), we still can't expect Apple to be #1 forever. IBM, Motorola, and Nokia have dominated their respective markets far longer. Where are they now? I miss the days when Sony and Panasonic ruled. Japanese ruled. Then the South Koreans took over. Then the Chinese. Every generation will have their own heroes and icons.

Wow.. Looks like the iPhone 7 is predicted to underwhelm....
KGI: iPhone sales in 2016 could be lower than 2014 as iPhone 7 has no ’attractive’ updates

I really wonder what could be the thing that Tim Cook was hyping up. What new feature will they introduce that "people won't know they needed" (or whatever the quote was)?

As of yet, based on the rumors, I'm not seeing that feature. So what could it be?

Really hoping Apple surprises us with something truly worthwhile. If Tim Cook himself wants to build hype, so be it. Hope he delivers.

Or the iPhone 7 could be a record breaker in terms of units. Nobody will know until it's released.

No one knows anything until it's released.

We're expressing our disappointment based on the rumors we've seen so far.

What exactly are you expressing? And based off what?

Or are you here just to point out the obvious? Yeah it could be a record breaker. It could not. That's about the end of that conversation. Stimulating.

But I though he (Tim Cook) was referring to phone in 2017 though ?

Seems you did a great job of pointing out the obvious saves me the trouble.

Your basing your disappointment on what? Cpu, ran, internal speed, water proofing, wireless charging, megapixels, bezel size. You basically are bored with the case, to which to me I like the form factor.

Carry on epic, I'll chime in as needed.

And sure, it could be a flop, but who knows such things?

What I would want in the next iPhone is actually quite modest ....

An enhanced camera with OIS in importantly 'all models'. Not necessarily pixel boost, but improved camera nether the less.

Front facing camera in the iPhone SE 2017 to be ramped to 5mp.

Bigger battery in the regular iPhone and the SE if they release one next year based on the 7's hardware.

Enhanced screen brightness on the SE & regular sized model. Possibly a resolution boost throughout, although I'd take the resolution we have if it meant greater battery life, as long the brightness on the smaller models was boosted.

2gb Ram in the 6S/+ & SE hasn't really been pushed and the A9 hasn't been stressed this generation yet, so I am not too bothered about ram & CPU boosts. No one complains about the speed of the 6S/+ or SE.

Improved speaker and mic on all models.

I would like to see force touch enhanced and with possibly customisable shortcuts for apps so that we can choose which 3 or 4 actions the 3D touch offers when pressed on home-screen. I would like to see 3D touch taken over to the smaller SE sized device when that is updated too.

32gb storage as a start across the board.

And this is important from my perspective €80-100 EURO & Sterling reduction (sorry America, but you're not as ridiculously overcharged and haven't seen price increases as high as those we have had to endure last couple of generations) OR alternativly included Apple Care + as standard on European devices to justify the cost.

€969 for a 64gb iPhone 6S+ was simply too much money, especially with €149 extra for Apple Care + on top.

Design wise, don't make it thinner. It's thin enough.

they need to move to OLED or fix their crap displays. It really is a lottery to get a nice screen, and I know more people that just live and accept the flaws (yellow tint, blotches, dust getting in). For the premium price you shouldn't be settling to live with inferior aspects like this.

He was?! I thought he was talking about upcoming iPhones.

No?

Not sure now, I'm all confused. But I'm sure the way I read it in articles after he was wasn't talking about imminent devices anyway.

I personally do not think their displays are crap at all. I think they offer some of the best LED panels on smartphones with good viewing angles and decent outdoor sunlight viewing and very accurate white balance generally.

Likewise OLED does not equate to 'automatically better'. Outside of Samsung's flagship devices, and a few of the Lumia devices, the issues of persistent off colour calibration / yellow tinting and dire outdoor visibility are very much common issues, from the Nexus 6, Nexus 6p, Moto X, Moto X 2014, Moto X Force, Blackberry Priv, Lg Flex 2, Droid Turbo etc. all suffer from this.

If Apple used an amoled panel as good as the recent Samsung flagships then I would be all for the change. But if they got one of the many many duff ones with poor calibration / over saturation with no way to calibrate & poor outdoor visibility then I would vastly prefer LED. Not all Amoled panels are equal (the difference between the Nexus 6P and the Samsung S6/S7 is very apparent, despite all being Samsung panels).

@MRU

I just did a quick/brief search and the first two articles I came across about what he said seems to point to the iPhone 7 in 2016.

Apple’s chief executive, Tim Cook, has attempted to assuage fears over the company’s fall in earnings, saying that the dip in stock price was a “huge overreaction” and that forthcoming iPhones will make people look back and ask “how did I live without this?”

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/may/03/tim-cook-iphone-model-upgrade

I sure hope he's talking about this year's iPhone... =T

Thanks @epicrayban

Yeah not sure, I am only expecting very 'modest' changes with iPhone 7 at this stage. If they deliver I'll be impressed, but I think it would be better to 'temper' expectations this year anyway, but we shall see :)

I have said before here that I am excited to see what iOS 10 brings more so than the 7.

I am still contemplating going back to a 6S+ as my S7E has been phenomenal but I seem to be compromising to make it work as I stated in another thread.

Yeah at this stage if they are going to show any innovation - it will more likely come from software changes or new services than hardware as I'm sure iPhone 7 hardware wise is pretty much locked down at this stage.

I'd actually ike to see some new Apple software for much of the software it has retired over the years (OSX wise not iOS).

Agree.
[doublepost=1463500046][/doublepost]I'd love to see some significant iOS changes. If software is where the "you couldn't live without it before"-innovation is going to come from, that could be very interesting, too.

Speaking generally about software, I think iOS has areas it can work on and catch up on, too, compared to the competition. It's not just hardware that they're falling behind in. It's certain aspects of software, too.
