That is because we constantly hear time and time again, especially around here, that when Apple does something they do it right. They don't do half-baked like other companies. This is mostly a justification excuse given when they are implementing something Samsung or Google on has had for years already. So if that is the case, should it not apply to everything they do?

I'd agree that recently Apple has had problems with services on release day. But those problems are always fixed. iCloud and iCloud photo library, even Apple Music (for me) work nearly flawlessly now. However whats happening now is the opposite; people are giving all the plaudits to Google before they've even released a product, we have no idea what Google Home will be like in a real life scenario, if it were Apple no one would give them that leeway. I'm not saying Apple don't have areas they need to catch up in, all I'm saying is lets not write them off based on an idealised Google product demo.

Completely disagree. Apple hasn't even said they're releasing an Echo competitor or an SDK and the tech media has already come up with how it's going to be better than the competition because of some acquisition they made over a year ago. People might not praise Apple when they release it, but only because right now they're praising them for things they haven't even said.

That's a fair criticism. I still think on balance the news is more Apple is doomed though, I guess it depends which sources we're reading the most.

No one creates Apple's image more than Apple themselves. They're the ones that claim to be the leader in innovation, they're the ones that claim to have the "world's most advanced mobile operating system." Etc. So is Apple being held to a different standard? Yeah, probably true. But it's a standard they've set themselves.

It's not wrong to be critical of them if they don't hold to their own standard.

Agree.

If anything, once Apple announces something, it makes breaking news and is hyped as game changing. Sometimes it's true. Sometimes it's not. The point is, they get plenty of hype and credit. I'm sure the same will happen come June 13th this year.

Apple is always doomed because they get so much hype before they announce anything. They can't help but disappoint,

And then they announce something. Everyone says they're doomed until the next rumor when they're going to leapfrog everyone and make HAL 9000 but without the murder. I have to wonder why people do that. At least when Google gets credit/catches crap, it's for something they said/did.

Apple's QA is what's failing me today and yes I'm upset about it. Every Apple product release post-Jobs, software and hardware is flawed. I just wiped my iPhone 6+ because it has had so many problems since the last few updates. I'm close to leaving them.

While Jobs was around there were magically no issues somehow.

Has quality control issues and software issues increased since Tim Cook became CEO?

No. For as long as I've been a mac user and that's a scarily long time and makes me feel old (well over 20+ years) every new piece of software or hardware has had it's issues.

What has increased is Apple's consumer base, which means 'exponentially' the amount of users affected by those issues has also increased.

And it's the internet and people will run here first and seek resolution second.

Great point.

I've been pretty lucky. My macs haven't had issues. My Thunderbolt display crapped out last year though and they replaced it for me. That's been my only issue.

Yes because the iPhone 4 was so amazing that you had to hold it right according to Jobs..

I will say that on the iOS side of things, I have experienced significantly more bugs iOS 7 onwards than I experienced prior.

edit: Typos galore

I thought my iPhone 6 was a bit buggy, too. More so than I could remember my past iPhones being.

I don't understand why people feel they can only use one platform exclusively. Seriously.
I am an Apple user, but I also have Android phones and Windows machines. It's always good to know about the other platforms so one can use the best platform/device for certain things.

Don't be blinded one way or the other. Every platform has their own issues.
Eg. I just bought a new Windows 10 laptop, and already a patch from Windows Update was failing to install for whatever reason. I had to do a restore of the whole device. Oh and I can go on and on about Android. Still, I use Windows for my HTPC, and I use a cheap Android phone as my "iPod."

As apple has added features it got more buggy. IOS was pretty basic before IOS7.
Apple STILL cant get 3rd party keyboards to work right, its annoying because I really want to use Microsoft's new keyboard.

I use both as well.

But I also understand that might not be a viable option for people.

Google's new keyboard, GBoard is the best 3rd party keyboard I've used in iOS, bar none. I don't generally see any of the lag I saw with Swiftkey or Word Flow (Swiftkey was by far the worst), has the best tap typing outside of the iOS keyboard and very good word prediction. The added features are great...Google search from right within the keyboard and using spacebar to move cursor works pretty well.

The deficiencies I see are those imposed by Apple in all keyboards...no access to 3D Touch, have to use iOS keyboard for passwords, and no access to voice dictation.

Gboard is by far the best on iOS. Agreed.
