We will have to wait and see how it works but the notifications look very good now and with the improvements to notification centre and control centre which were needed. Quicker access to camera will be handy too.

I want to know with the expanded cloud features in MacOS & iOS are going to change they going to increase free icloud storage from the limited 5gb ?

Its great they have a facility that can free up your device storage to the cloud - but we need greater capacity and cheaper cloud storage options.

Yeah, I think the lockscreen redesign is nice. I'll be the one the say it: Notifications now almost look like cards. I like it.

I didn't hear customization to Control Center, though? It looks more organized, but still without the ability to change out the toggles I want.

a better place
Also re: all these WWDC announcements.

Let's address the elephant in the room here Apple. Many of us can't access them !!! :( I want apple to get a lot of these services and new stuff to all of us, not just a handful of countries.

We still have no apple pay, we have no apple news, we still do not have TV episodes on iTunes, we do not have support for our national TV catchup services on Apple TV etc ....

So whilst it's great they have all these improved apps and services, if they don't roll them out to all of us - they are not much use to me or others in countries that are on the 'never ending coming soon' list.

EDIT 1 .... messages ? Are they going to announce Android support ? who is taking the bets ?

EDIT 2 .... [ So no iMessage for android ....... ]

[ Finally Siri coming to Ireland (up to now we had to use UK siri) so it finally may recognise the pronunciation of Irish names - hopefully Apple News will come with it ] ....

My point was that those who use Android can easily and rationally point out flaws in iOS and vice versa.Considering I own a Windows Phone,3 iOS devices,1 Galaxy A7 anD 2 Nexus devices I already am a user of both ecosystem s
Meaning that those who don't use another OS can't rationally point to flaws? It seems like the lack of rationale aspect of it all only keeps on gaining more and more steam.

I was more impressed by Sierra than I was with iOS 10. Some nice additions to iOS, though, for sure. Raise to wake might be my favorite, but without an Apple Watch to use smart unlock to take full advantage of accessing notifications and actions in the lockscreen, it won't be that major of a shift in non-Apple Watch owner's experience. Nice to see improvements to keyboard, iMessage, and Maps. A lot of this stuff is catching up to what the competition can already do, so that's always good for iOS. Like I've said before, copy away. Siri looks like it got a nice upgrade too.

Music and the rest did nothing for me. And overall, I'm disappointed by no iMessage for Android (wasn't holding my breath for that anyway, but would've been a nice surprise), no third party defaults, no control center customization nor 3D Touch customization, and no native gesture-typing for the keyboard.

I'm unswayed by what we've seen so far of iOS 10. Good update, as we knew it would be, but nothing that cries for me to leave the advantages of Android for. And if the modest-iPhone 7 update rumors prove true, it'll be another pass this year for me and the iPhone.

Looking forward to Sierra though. Universal copy and paste is a big yes.

How is it possible Apple hasn't still add swipe capabilities to their stock keyboard in 2016? Blows my mind... Third party options are terrible. They should know that.

And still no personalisation options? Like moving icons to where you want or themes. Would have been really nice.

I was still hoping for a finder implementation, but I guess it will never happen.

Well, after watching the keynote, I'm going to make another attempt to switch over to Android.

WatchOS looked like it got some nice updates I like the scribble option to respond to messages.

TvOS, single sign on is definitely nice.

MacOS, I don't use SIRI so that won't help me too much.

iOS, too much 3D Touch, SIRI and emoji's for me. I felt this presentation had too much emphasis on emoji's and I don't care for the bubble effects or disappearing text.

iOS just seems to be going into a different direction than what I'm interested in.

This is annoying indeed. If I weed out all the stuff that's not available in Finland, there's not that much interesting stuff in iOS 10 aside from the Siri API. I was actually most impressed by the watchOS part.

Are we sure that you cannot opt-in to have the extra lock screen functionality available, as you designate now in Settings > Touch ID and Passcode for access to things like Control Center, Notifications and Today screen from the lock screen? I only caught short bursts of the keynote as it happened so I very well might've missed a bunch of detail.

Same here. There are some pretty cool new elements to iOS 10 but adding a few of these would've gone a long way to really making iOS more full featured. 3D Touch is customizable though, at least on 3rd party apps as an email app I started using last month lets you set the 4 3D Touch options on the home screen icon from a list of 7 or 8 choices. When they were showing the widget options by using 3D Touch, weren't there some customization available (again, missed a lot of the presentation so i very easily could be wrong)? And while I'd probably find the most value in being able to set default apps, the lack of gesture typing on iOS, coupled with Apple continuing to not allow voice dictation, nor 3D Touch navigation for 3rd party keyboards is somewhat surprisingly irritating me the most. I could use the iOS keyboard full time if it had gesture typing or Gboard if it had access to voice dication but right now, can't have either so I have to use both.

I'm glad to see Apple further building on the existing elements of Continuity...looking forward to seeing all of the new elements of macOS ( that's going to take some getting used to ;)).

I was also really glad to see them implement an actual app for Home and it's pretty amusing just how similar the evolution of iMessages and the new Allo app are (the peanut gallery can keep the 'they copied it from Google' nonsense to themselves as quite obviously both apps were in development simulateously).

The changes coming in watchOS 3.0 really look terrific. Google really needs to take note and get to work on Android Wear as, of the two, I think Apple made more headway with their upcoming release vs. the next version of Android Wear. Only time and use will tell, of course.

I'm going to watch the entire presentation later tonight to see everything I might've missed.

Wait, can someone explain this to me?
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204221

Remove built-in apps from the Home screen on your iOS device with iOS 10 beta
If you update to iOS 10 beta, you can remove some built-in apps from the Home screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

I think it's exactly what it looks like. Apple is finally offering the ability to remove a bunch of their native apps. And not just hide or disable, but remove them completely as they will maintained in (and I believe updated via) the App Store, in a similar fashion to how Google maintains their apps via Google Play services. Nice change. Now if they would just allow us to designate default apps...

Yes..some interesting changes. If they had just made the other changes so many of us have been clamoring for (customization of CC, default apps, fully functional 3rd party keyboards) I'd say this might be one of Apple's best updates. As it stands, jury is definitely out. But yes, I'm curious to put it through its paces.

Yeah, that really begs the question, if we're allowed to remove the native app, doesn't that automatically mean another app would take its place? By default.

So for example, if I deleted the iOS gallery app, and it's gone from my iPhone, and then install say a third party's photo app, is that what will default to?

Otherwise why have this feature? To just remove native apps? Purely just to eliminate apps people don't want? But not be allowed to replace them with other apps as default? So it's just for storage or aesthetics/organization purposes?

Isn't that weird? Like they only gave half the equation.

The ongoing discussion about it all at https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ch-as-stocks-now-deletable-in-ios-10.1977149/ can probably shed some light on at least some of those things.

Outside of mail and calendar, most of these apps are secondary in functionality--not really going to have direct links to the Stock or Compass app. I am curious what happens when you click on an email address after having mail.app removed.

UPDATE: so it appears if you follow a link to an app that you've deleted, i.e. Mail, it doesn't let you pick another but rather prompts you that you'll need to reinstall the app. Bummer.

Well that's lame. I think default app selection would go very well with the ability to remove stock apps. Seems like something that should be hand in hand with this feature.

Weird that I can remove Apple Maps...... But now navigation doesn't work. It won't default to Google maps even though it's installed.
