Weird that I can remove Apple Maps...... But now navigation doesn't work. It won't default to Google maps even though it's installed.

I'm hoping that's something they just haven't got around to implementing yet. The possibility to remove stock apps is only halfway done if you can't assign any replacements for them.

iOS 10 and Sierra make me want to ditch Apple more than ever.
I didn't see any new compelling feature apart from universal copy paste for iOS.I slept through those awful 20 mins of emoji keynote and my iPhone isn't even getting the raise to unlock.I don't use Apple Music as Play Music is much better.Apple Maps is still crap

All in all a lacklustre iOS update.Sierra has Siri which makes it an instant download for me

But there are others who are mentioning that Siri in OS X (macOS) is just unnecessary and nothing more than a gimmick (let alone anything compelling).

All of those who have some snarky, negative comment wrt iOS 10, will be first in line to get the iPhone 7(with iOS 10) or download iOS 10.0.0.

I am getting an iPhone 7 along with a Galaxy Note 6.That doesn't in any way mean I prefer one OS over the other.I can't just dump my Apple Watch,MacBook,Mac Mini anD iPad but I always dump old hardware regardless

This also doesn't Change my view regarding Apple's policies viz forcing me to upgrade through planned obsolescence(the most recent raise to wake feature being another example of it)

Lack of a new feature that the device didn't have when you decided to get it means it's obsolete and you are forced to update?

It sounds like this planned obsolescence has been one of the main features of many Android phones for a long time with them often not getting much in the way of new Android updates.

Exactly ... your device will continue to work.

But Apple do support their idevices longer than anyone else, and i only wish my Android devices had as much long term support. (Worse case was my Note Pro 12.2 which was out if date software wise less than 4 months of launch).

I must admit my 2008 MacPro which still works like a champ not being on the MacOS Sierra list bums me out, but at same timr I have to and do accept I have had 8 years of support and Mac OS software updates.

At some point manufacturers have to pull support for older hardware, it's a pain in the bum, but a reality. All of them do it, but in this regard Apple do support their devices a lot longer than many other manufacturers / OEM'S.

When a lowly iPhone SE gets this feature,I expect Apple to give it to the superior iPhone even if it's older. This is coming off as being to greedy at this point. There is no reason why the iPhone 6 can't have a feature which even Galaxy S5 had for years

If you buy a top end Android its supported for as long as the device is capable of handling the update. For example Nexus 7 2012 was never as slow as iPad Mini 1 before the end of its life cycle .

There are fewer chances of software features being held back on Android as a completely different company is responsible for it unrelated to the phone manufacturers

For example,Adoptable Storage was cut back by Samsung on the S7 only for users to to reenable it later

So you mean just like how Note 4 owners never got the ability to take notes on lock screen despite Note 5 having it and it only being a software feature ?

All those Note 4's suddenly became obsolete when it failed to arrive in MM (assuming they were lucky enough to get MM) ?

And because your iPhone 6 that never had this feature, and doesn't currently have it in a Beta for an unfinished OS - it too is now obsolete ? Despite it working now as it always did ?

All manufacturers make decisions re: software features on their devices cut from one year to the other. It annoying yes, but to say your device is obsolete is utter nonsense.

I will take bets that the forthcoming Note 7/edge 'FOCUS' Hub software feature will never see light of day on the Note 5, does that mean it is therefore obsolete ?

I don't get why? Your iphone6 will work fantastically with iOS 10.
I certainly won't be.

Difference between iOS and Android is there is always a way on Android to get what you want.If you download the Screen Off Memo apk from XDA and enaale device administrator you can get this feature quite easily
In the case of my iPhone, there is no way to unless I resort to jailbreak.Jailbreak iOS already has the swipe for 3D Touch and potentially the raise to wake.

My point is that this feature was given to a budget device like the SE and INTENTIONALLY cut for $1000 oldeṛ flagships simple because they are like 1.8 year old.The SE is missing a sensor, has an inferior screen and yet it got this feature.
Therefore in Apple's eyes my device is already obsolete

I am suṛe upgrading to iOS 10 will be like a walk in the park because upgrading to iOS 9 from 8.4.1 worked out so well for my iPhone 6

Sorry but you are now simply backtracking and deflecting a flawed argument that you initiated ... The SE has the same co-processor that allows always listening Siri, which is the same sensor that they are using to activate this feature.

What do you mean "deflecting"? Samsung did not give the Notes on lock screen option to existing users but there was an app to fill the gap.In this case There is just no way to get the feature they cut back for older models. They cut out this feature to make the iPhone 6 owners feel their device isn't capable of handling the best features to get them to upgrade

Universal clipboard and raise to wake where the only standout features which is why I am annoyed.I never used any of Apple's services so the other updates mean nothing to me and I don't care for those 5 year old emojis and birthday screen animations they put in.There wasn't anything new for the older models.I am still contemplating what benefits I will get from updating except for the new design.I am certain my device will experience a huge slowdown not proportional to the amount of features gained

Your deflecting because you are being utterly irrational. Your device works exactly as it always has done. If any android user used your flawed argument and posted that their device was now obsolete because it didn't receive a feature that is on other devices in a software update, i'm sure you would be telling them that they were talking just as much nonsense and being irrational as you are.

It's just nonsense and i'm sure you know it, but it wouldn't serve your 'modus operandi' to agree and back down from this train of thought you have taken ...

It worked out well for my iPad 2, 5s and iPhone 6. With tens of millions of Idevices there will always be some edge cases and some people whose perceptions are different than reality.

Outside of mail and calendar, most of these apps are secondary in functionality--not really going to have direct links to the Stock or Compass app. I am curious what happens when you click on an email address after having mail.app removed.

UPDATE: so it appears if you follow a link to an app that you've deleted, i.e. Mail, it doesn't let you pick another but rather prompts you that you'll need to reinstall the app. Bummer.

Major bummer. Maybe iOS 11. Maybe Apple is slowly working toward that in the future. Too slowly in my opinion.

iOS on the iPhone is starting to seem like you must have an Apple watch, Mac, and iPad to feel like it's an actually update.

Yeah I'm not thrilled by this. I have very little interest in smartwatches. The raise to wake is one of my favorite new things about iOS 10, but without an apple smartwatch to be able to act on the new lock screen, it's not a complete feature.

This is related to what we mean by feeling locked down sometimes.

Android is made to adapt and work with virtually anything. iOS is meant to be with Apple's eco system.

Just curious but what is the relation between the Apple Watch and the new lock screen? What do you mean act on the notifications using Apple Watch?Raise to wake shows the lock screen but what's Apple Watch got to do with it.
