Is your G4 a 7410 by any chance?
Yes it is, I think it's the only processor that fits. Mine is also running at 550MHz, so I don't understand what the problem is.
If you go into Tiger and look at your system report, is the CPU cache showing as 1MB?

Cheers :)

It does show 1MB. I installed Sorbet to my external drive and was able to boot my PB G4 Ti 867 from it. I then tried my Pismo using the drive and the same error showed up. You said you used Migration Assistant. Maybe I’ll try using that instead of Disk Utility.

No, I used Disk Utility in Tiger to restore the Sorbet.dmg to the partition I had made ready. I only used Migration Assistant once I had Sorbet running, to put my account on from a backup firewire disk.

Cheers :)

Have you installed Leopard on this machine before?

Why not install vanilla Leopard then do all the speed hacks/customisation yourself - add your favourite apps and if desired make a disk image of the install - then you'll have your own optimised, custom Leopard for future installs.

I have not.
I’ve only just recently heard of vanilla Leopard. I’ll look more into it.

Can I trouble you for one more thing? What is Boot ROM Version number?

Mine is 3.2.7f2.

The most recent one appears to be 4.1.8.

Okay, up and running with Sorbet Leopard 1.4 on the 15" PBG4 1.67 :)

I had tried to restore to the incoming SSD via USB before installing it, but it hated the result for some reason. Wouldn't boot. Had to install leopard from a DVD (this time partitioning it before installing, and putting Leopard on then second half of the drive), and then restoring Sorbet was easy.

Hello,
I was trying to install Sorbet Leopard on an external FireWire drive on my iMac G5 running 10.4.11 (because I am low on storage). I used the Disk Utility Restore function, and it completed, but when I select it from the Startup Disk menu, it will give me the flashing folder then go to Tiger. When I option-boot then the drive does not show up in the list even after waiting a while. I am looking forward to using Sorbet Leopard and was wondering if anyone might be willing to give suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?
Thank you in advance.

Success! I got Sorbet Leopard running on my PowerBook Pismo. I had to up date the firmware.

I am trying to run the Run System Tuneup. I typed in the password and but nothing showed up on the screen and then hit return. Is that normal? Is this actually running?

Yes, it takes a long long time on a Pismo! You may need to enter your password a few more times for each section of the tuneup.

Terminal doesn't show the password as you type it, by the way ;)

Cheers :)

Ripped the 128MB stick out of Oddball, just to see how a nearly worst case scenario for Sorbet would perform (the only generous thing is that I'm at 450). I am now regretting it because that could have made the copying just that much faster.

Is there a firmware update for that computer? That solved my issue

Probably not installed on it, I haven't installed any, and the guy I got it off of didn't seem to use it for very much. How do I check?
Click on more info. Under Hardware you should see Boot Rom Version

You’ll have to search Google or maybe post asking about firmware updates for your particular machine. The updates for my Pismo were luckily on the internet archive under an archived apple.com page.

I happened upon this video recently ...

I would like to make absolutely clear that there are NO "free" and "paid" versions of Sorbet Leopard. Sorbet is, has always been, and always will be a freely available passion project made in earnest specifically for certain compatible models of the PowerPC-based Power Macintosh, intended to be used exclusively by the vintage Mac community. It was created with the express purpose of simply making life easier on these two-decade old machines, and absolutely no other reason besides that.

Thank you.

I did chuckle when he kept calling it "sorbert" though.
I winced all the way through those two videos:

1st video - "Youtube is slow because I'm on wifi...."

2nd video - "Youtube is slow because I'm on ethernet.."

No context or explanation to the concept of Sorbet at all (apart from erroneous ones) or the real benefits of using an all-in-one, ready to roll disk image.
