so with the 7400 as the requirement now, would you be able to install it on systems below 867MHz? the 7400 only went up to 500MHz and the 7410 only got to 600MHz

@k24a1 That is correct. Sorbet Leopard will not only be compatible with all systems that can boot vanilla Leopard, but will also work even better on them thanks to the optimizations built-in, all of which will be listed in detail upon release.

@WindowsXPuser Later tonight. :)

There was an unexpected permissions error that had to be resolved earlier today though (due to an oversight on my part; not the OS' fault), and that took time, which is why there's a delay. I was hoping to have it dealt with before it got too late, but unfortunately, that's not how it went ...

In any case, sit tight.

EDIT: Due to an unexpected permissions error, in addition to image sizing and uploading issues, Sorbet Leopard has been delayed to October 31.

I just came across this thread. I have a 15"PB ready to update to 10.5.9. Sounds fantastic! Will it need to be a clean install or can it install over an existing system? Can it install from the boot drive or need external media?

I think the most exciting feature I read in post 1 was the Magic Mouse support. A Magic Mouse paired to a PowerBook. What a time to be alive.

I believe this is strictly for powerpc macs. It may boot however z970mp stripped away a lot of the intel specific binaries, so many things may not work

@Jack Neill As the system will be distributed as a disk image, it will need to be restored to an empty partition. And as said disk image can be restored to a USB drive instead of another partition directly, either installation method would work fine (when booted from USB, all you would need to do is restore the USB partition to another partition on the HD).

Now, I haven't actually tested any Magic Mice on Sorbet due to a lack of hardware, but rest assured the drivers are installed and the settings are provisioned. Couple that with the Mountain Lion or High Sierra theme, and it will be like running a new Mac on 20-year-old technology. :)

@Tratkazir_the_1st As Intel platforms already have Snow Leopard (which they've dangled over our heads for a decade), they are not supported, and won't even boot due to missing kexts (they were removed to cut down on size). Thus, Sorbet Leopard is essentially an unofficial Snow Leopard specifically for PowerPC platforms - this is for us to dangle over their heads for a change!

@k24a1 The permissions error was (mostly) resolved yesterday, I decided to forgo the process of maximum image reduction for now since Leopard's Disk Utility wasn't being cooperative, and I was unable to successfully upload the image to Macintosh Garden all through last night. So I've zipped the DMG, and am now trying again with vanilla Safari, which has always worked for me in the past.

Granted, there are still a couple rough edges, but those will be sanded out over time. At this point, I'm more concerned with just getting it out than anything else.

In other news, I've been testing the final build on my newly upgraded 1.42 DP MDD for some hours now, and aside from a brief slowdown (primarily due to kext cache regeneration) at the very beginning, the system's performance feels about equal to or better than Tiger on the same machine overall. Benchmarks aside, the response times have not been nearly as slow as 10.5.8 in comparison, I can say that.

-

EDIT: Since Macintosh Garden's servers do not seem to be cooperating, the image will just be uploaded to MediaFire instead for the time being. Therefore, I expect a release within the next hour.

Almost there!

Here we go!

In addition, a full changelog detailing all differences between 10.5.8 and 10.5.9 has been made, and is viewable as a downloadable file in the dedicated showcase page @ the Garden or below this post as an attachment.

Thank you all for your patience and overwhelming support during these past five months of development. Please enjoy the fruits of this herculean effort, and remember to have fun!

P.S. Don't forget to check the Documents folder!
