I know which part you mean and i didn’t think it was necessary to do that either. I just thought it had a good story and a lot of cool action. I hate generations (for the same reason I hated what they did it nemesis.) And insurrection was just a bad boring story.
The problem with Nemesis, for me at least, was the Reman ship Scimitar. It far out classes anything in the ST universe (except pre-Voyager Borg Cube), yet the Remans couldn't over throw the Romulans? I'm gonna assume the brand spanking new Valdore-class is equal to or superior to the aging D'Deridex. The Scimitar squashed a pair of Valdore-class without receiving any damage. The way they toyed with THE best ship (most advance tech, best weapons, and a legendary captain and crew) in the Federation, showed that if they had been serious, Enterprise E would have lasted as long as a Red Shirt on an away mission.
The plot/script for Nemesis was rather weak. They tried to prop it up with great F/X. The cast and crew, the ship are all Star Trek. But, for me, the movie did not have the Star Trek vibe; more of an action flick in Star Trek skin.

Yes that’s all true. Not sure why they didn’t over throw the romulans right away.

I did enjoy the action especially the end. The crashing of the enterprise into the Scimitar, Troy firing the weapon, Riker fighting, it all worked for me.

Nothing can describe the shock and pain of seeing your favorite character since you were a wee little kid die... in theaters, totally unexpected. That killed it for me. I haven't been able to watch it again since then. Great movie, great acting, great F/X... I wasn't a fan of the storyline and like Mousse I have problems with someone able to build a ship that bests the Federation and Romulans, in hiding, totally unexpected, ... and it be almost as good as a ship 100-200 years in the future. The whole firing while cloaking but not being detected when computers are 600x more advanced... ok ok, don't get me started.

I'm a huge fan of TNG - I grew up with it. Was really hoping there would be another movie after Nemesis. :(.

Not a fan of Discovery, I found the first few episodes and the need to pay for a separate additional streaming service to be very unsavory. I hear rumors about Picard having his own series - sometime after Nemesis. Looking forward to what the future shows.

I just got my wife to go through TOS over the last 3-4 months. We're starting TNG as of last week. :)

The Orville is feeding my Trekkie needs exceedingly well and is one of my favorite shows to watch these days (my wife as well).

I hear you on the former. I don't like it either but (in the US), you're also probably going to need to pay for CBS All Access to see the below, given the tweet at https://www.theverge.com/2018/8/4/1...uc-picard-star-trek-cbs-all-access-new-series.

For ST: D, just subscribe for as long as you need to get thru the 2 current seasons and cancel. Rejoin later when season 3 comes on. S2:E13 was tonight and we've only get 1 more ep for S2. I'm overall enjoying the show.

As for "the Picard show", it's not a rumor. I was at the Vegas convention when Patrick Stewart came out on stage: https://trekmovie.com/2018/08/10/se...turn-to-star-trek-in-full-announcement-video/. He wasn't in the program nor on the roster. In the midst of a panel, they announced Alex Kurtzman would have a special announcement or something at a certain time. IIRC, they were early and it was a total surprise (just like the video shows) of Patrick Stewart coming out.

I think I will have to subscribe for this. i already know two big spoilers from Discovery but I'll binge that show as well. Trying to hold off on paying more for streaming services but this sounds too good to pass up.Wonder how many old cast members of TNG will show up. The new Data (I can't remember his name from the last movie)? Jonathan Frakes will probably direct a bunch of episodes, too.

Per the tweet at https://www.cnet.com/news/star-trek-picard-tv-show-gets-a-sensible-name-and-a-perfect-logo/, the "Picard show" will be called Star Trek: Picard. There's a single screen capture there, as well.

The tweet says
#StarTrek: Picard will stream exclusively on @CBSAllAccess in the United States, on Amazon #PrimeVideo in more than 200 countries and territories and in Canada on Bell Media’s @SpaceChannel and OTT service @CraveCanada. @StarTrekCBS @primevideouk http://bit.ly/STPicardTitle

Also, S2 of ST: D ended a little while ago. Not sure if it's been posted already, but ST: D got renewed for season 3 a few months ago.

Thanks for posting this; I saw the clip yesterday elsewhere on Twitter (and am unable to open your link).

Great to think that Picard might be back with us; while STNG was a terrific piece of ensemble acting, its moral and ethical core was always Jean-Luc Picard as portrayed by Patrick Stewart.

Definitely. For me, STNG - without Stewart/Picard - would have been a run of the mill sci-fi action series. Spaceships check. 'Robots' check. Lasers check. But he grounded it, made it more about people, mores, values.

Edward James Olmos was offered the role of Picard before Patrick Stewart. (Source: IMDB)

What a different show it would have been, had Mr. Olmos accepted.

I hadn't known that.

Actually, I thought him excellent on Miami Vice, a reserved, thoughtful and serious leader, and he would have been a very impressive (but also, a very different) captain.

Nevertheless, to me, Patrick Stewart was the actor who made STNG what it became; he gave it depth, a moral core, and a sort of (understated) philosophical credibility.

In ToS, I far preferred Mr Spock to Captain Kirk; I suppose that I prefer slightly introverted, thoughtful, individuals as leaders, (and as friends) to the clichéd dashing, charismatic, swashbuckling (and macho) type.

Yes, in life (and fiction) one may need both, but I know where my personal preferences lie in life, art, and imagination.

Agree with your take on this, I must also say I admire both Patrick Stewart and Leonard Nimoy as actors and - from what I know - as people too.

It's pretty easy to visualize Edward James Olmos doing the same or similar as Patrick Stewart. He was quite excellent in Battlestar Galactica

The CBS All Access exclusivity for Star Trek (in the USA) is temporary.

For example, Discovery S1 is available on iTunes, Amazon, and I assume other streaming services. It is also available to rent and purchase on disc.

'Picard' looks amazing. I also love seeing some of the original cast playing parts in it as well as cast members from 'Voyager'.

The only downside, once again (read 'Discovery') is CBS All Access. I'm going to have to wait, and hope, for the Blu-ray's to see it because I am not going subscribe to another streaming service for 1 or 2 shows.
