I just hope it comes to Netflix. As an aside, Discovery is on Netflix and I am about halfway through the second season and am really enjoying it. Again I have watched other series and movies on Netflix so am not going to be subscribing to lots of streaming services just for one or two shows.

'Picard' looks amazing. I also love seeing some of the original cast playing parts in it as well as cast members from 'Voyager'.

The only downside, once again (read 'Discovery') is CBS All Access. I'm going to have to wait, and hope, for the Blu-ray's to see it because I am not going subscribe to another streaming service for 1 or 2 shows.

Imagine how many of us in the US are considering trying to find out which VPN apps can spoof your address to make you appear to be outside the US, just so you could watch this for free, keeping in mind that this will be available to everyone for free on Amazon Prime, but only on CBS All Access in the US.

I won't deny that that thought crossed my mind, too.

Outside of the US, at least in México, it will be available on Prime Video.

I don't think Discovery is on Netflix in the US.

Offer is valid through 2/28/20. At end of the one month trial, your card will automatically be charged for your first monthly subscription period unless you cancel prior to the end of the free month.
I'm still in my free 1 month from another promo so I can't confirm that it works but numerous folks at TCF + 1 guy at my work says the above work for them.

I'm about to go watch S1:E5 of Picard tonight.

So if you subscribe on 2/28, and it works, you could fit Season 1 in a one month sub. I might try this. :)

Star Trek First Contact. I really enjoyed how Picard takes charge in these scenes.
Fantastic clip, great looking crew. The Picard I remember. Crusher is hot! I might have to rewatch this to get the bad taste of Picard out of my mouth. 😁

Brought over from the Picard thread:
I wonder what she'd think of Picard...
A different time, different standards and expectations although the Star Trek Universe base line was established at that point. What is interesting to me is the hit and miss rate of the follow-on Star Trek series.
  • Original Star Trek (1966-69)- Big hit.* The network executives feared it was too much for 1960s audiences. They rejected the original Pilot in 1964 as too intellectual. *It struggled in initial broadcast. Found it’s hit status in syndication, thanks @D.T.!
  • Animated series (1973-74)- There was an animated series?
  • Next Generation (1987-94)- A Star Trek Series peak arguably yet to be bested.
  • Deep Space 9 (1993-99)- I don’t remember why I did not watch this, maybe first impression was dark or boring, a different change of pace and atmosphere from Next Gen?
  • Voyager (1995-01)- I did not like Captain Janeway, she might have been too masculine for my tastes although I usually like strong female leads. Plus an early time travel chicken or the egg episode turned me off as a plagiarized theme from NG. I guess I was expecting new stories/ideas, not retreads early on.
  • Enterprise (2001-5)- Some of the episodes were rather pedestrian, let’s go down to the planet and help these people move some rocks. Ok, a slight exaggeration. ;) But a high point was watching T’pol in her undies being slathered in post mission sanitizer by an attentive fellow away team member! Would’nt full nudity be required to make that effective?😜
  • Discovery (2017-present)- A new feel, a huge war, a new Klingon look, Season One is the bee‘s knees compared to what immediately preceded it. 😁There is room to criticize some of Captain Pike’s decision making in Season 2, but his character will surely be missed.
  • Picard (2020-present)- I realize this is a controversial opinion, unusually cruel coming from me, but instead of leaving our cherished memories alone, Patrick Stewart had to have one more shot in the limelight as beloved Jean Luc, where he is transformed into geriatric JL, hobbling though the series with his cane saying “eh, what‘s that sonny?“ Not helping is old Riker and puffy Data.

It’s hard to leave this behind.
Star Trek Origins/Discovery
Who is Captain Pike and why is he on Discovery?

What happened with the original Star Trek Pilot, and why did Capt Kirk replace Capt Pike?
The real world reasons for Pike's Enterprise departure are a little more complicated. The original Star Trek pilot was produced in 1964 for NBC. Jeffrey Hunter starred as Captain Pike, alongside Majel Barrett as Number One, and Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Hunter's Pike was quite a bit different from Mount's; a brooding, jaded officer who questions his future in Starfleet, Hunter's Pike gave the show a much different energy than fans are used to. NBC rejected the pilot as "too intellectual" (generally accepted as code for "boring") but commissioned a second pilot in early 1965. Hunter was a movie star slumming in television, and had no interest in making a second pilot. Virtually the entire show was recast, with only Leonard Nimoy's Spock returning from the original pilot. William Shatner was cast to play James Kirk, a much more self-assured, animated captain, and the rest is future history.

The original Pilot was incorporated into a Season 1, 2 part episode called the The Menagerie
"The Cage" is the first pilot episode of the American television series Star Trek. It was completed in early 1965 (with a copyright date of 1964). The episode was written by Gene Roddenberry and directed by Robert Butler. It was rejected by NBC in February 1965, and the network ordered another pilot episode, which became "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Most of the original footage from "The Cage" was later incorporated into the season 1 two-parter episode "The Menagerie" (1966). "The Cage" was first released to the public in VHS in 1986, with a special introduction by Gene Roddenberry, and was not broadcast on television in its complete form until 1988

Funny enough, in the original broadcast, TOS was considered a notable commercial failure, cancelled short, budget cuts continuously, it didn't really gather any kind of popular culture mindset till years later in syndication.

I'll accept your resignation as an official STN* ...

It was terrific too - well, the design was great, the animation, I guess I'd describe as "barely" :D Most of the original voice cast, some outstanding writers, DC Fontana, David Gerrold, and possibly my favorite episode of TAS, The Slaver Weapon, written by Larry Niven (adapted from his own short story). The latter introduced the Kzinti, from Niven's, Known Space novels, great stuff! It would've been cool to use them in later series, but ST:TAS was more or less "decanonized" by Roddenberry.
