Funny enough, in the original broadcast, TOS was considered a notable commercial failure, cancelled short, budget cuts continuously, it didn't really gather any kind of popular culture mindset till years later in syndication.

I'll accept your resignation as an official STN* ...

It was terrific too - well, the design was great, the animation, I guess I'd describe as "barely" :D Most of the original voice cast, some outstanding writers, DC Fontana, David Gerrold, and possibly my favorite episode of TAS, The Slaver Weapon, written by Larry Niven (adapted from his own short story). The latter introduced the Kzinti, from Niven's, Known Space novels, great stuff! It would've been cool to use them in later series, but ST:TAS was more or less "decanonized" by Roddenberry.

I figured I’d catch some flak from you, but I thought about my Picard comments. :) The original series lasted 3 years, it was ahead of it’s time, and it was a huge hit, despite taking years after for that recognition to take place in syndication and most importantly IMO, placed the seeds for the real triumph, Next Generation.

For whatever reason, I was in college at the time and the animated series just slipped by me. :)

Oh I agree with what it did in terms of TV, Scifi, perspectives on race, technology, etc., way ahead of its time - my point was it was a commercial failure when it originally aired, and all the legacy from the show was due to popularity in syndication, which was fortunate.

that trailer is obnoxious. like basically the whole story no need to see the film.
Man do I hate that. Typically it’s a calculated decision on behalf of the Studio who is afraid and thinks this is necessary to pull an audience in, even if it gives away the whole freak’n plot!!

I watched most of this the other day. There were taken questions mainly from other forums it seems (e.g. IGN, IGN YouTube, Facebook somewhere, etc.) and seemed to be mostly ignoring questions from CineFix where I was most of the time.

Don't think if it as a director's commentary that you'd find on a DVD or BD. It really was just a watch along with some questions answered. You need to watch along with your own copy/stream of First Contact. Frakes had a lousy connection, it seemed.

https://galaxycon.com/live/ has some Star Trek streams coming up (search for Trek). I watched one this morning w/Yar, Q, and Riker. They changed their policy about not putting up recordings later (see https://galaxycon.com/galaxycon-live-frequently-asked-questions/) Previously, if you'd missed it, too bad.

There's an Enterprise one today and another TNG one on June 20th (Dr. Crusher, Geordi and Data).

I'm the the middle of listening to https://www.npr.org/2020/07/02/886561522/sir-patrick-stewart-on-star-trek-picard. Someone at work pointed it out to me and later a friend did, as well. I'm using the Overcast app to listen to it at higher speeds.
Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the CBS All Access series 'Star Trek: Picard.' He says he's changed as an actor over the years: "I am not averse to risk-taking and I don't judge myself." Stewart spoke with 'Fresh Air' producer Sam Briger about 'Picard,' his love of Shakespeare, and his brief time as a reporter.

TOS S1 E0, The Cage

At the end of the episode when we see Vina’s true appearance and I have to wonder about the Talosians intelligence.

She recounts the crash landing of the ship 18 years earlier, that she was still alive and a lump of flesh. She says the Talosians had never seen a human and had no guide or reference to put her back together.

Her true appearance has her as a limping, crooked hunchback of sorts.

With the high level of intelligence and power the Talosians posses, do they not know about symmetry? Their own bodies are symmetrical so why couldn’t they make Vina symmetrical as well?

I liked the doctors one but the Shatner one was a bit of a letdown. I wrote about them briefly at https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=586119#p586119.

I see from https://galaxycon.com/live/, there's another TNG one on July 25th.
Engage! Join the crew of the Starship Enterprise, it’s continuing mission to bring Cmdr. William Riker, Lt. Cmdr. Data, Counselor Deanna Troi, Lt. Tasha Yar, and Q for a one-of-a-kind Live Streamed Q&A with GalaxyCon Live. Join Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, Denise Crosby, and John de Lancie on Saturday, July 25th, at 2 pm ET to boldly go where no one has gone before! One-on-One Video Chats and Autographs are also available.
That should be good. Frakes and Sirtis on together is usually good and Spiner usually adds to the comedy. I'd seen Sirtis and Michael Dorn (Worf) on stage together at a convention and that was good.

As i posted at https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=31182&p=587299#p587299, there's some sort of panel "airing" 7/23 at 10 am Pacific time per https://comiccon2020.sched.com/even...irtual-panel?iframe=no&w=680&sidebar=no&bg=no. Not clear if it really is going to have THAT many people that the list.

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/sdcc-2020-is-virtual-how-to-attend-comic-con-at-home-and-what-to-expect/ says
Star Trek Universe
Space is still the final frontier. This panel brings together cast members and producers from Star Trek: Discovery, new animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Picard. Participants will include Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, Marina Sirtis, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh, Wilson Cruz, Rebecca Romijn, Mike McMahan and more. Engage!
Thursday, July 23, 10 a.m. PT

It appears that they will keep the recordings (already done) available after the fact.

Was Patrick Stewart's birthday yesterday. He turned 80!

There was also this tweet:

Don't know if you've been following him on FB, but he's stated that for every day that everything is locked down, he will be reading one of Shakespeare's Sonnets every day. I forgot what day he's on, but he's going through all 150something of them...

... except for his 80th birthday. as a present, Ian McKellan read Sonnet #80 on all his social media sites and shared it to Stewart's page and twitter feed.

BL.

Tomorrow per https://galaxycon.com/live/ and https://galaxycon.com/august-9th-star-trek-klingons/ is
"Join Klingons Martok (JG Hertzler) and Gowron (Robert O’Reilly) for an exclusive GalaxyCon Live interview on Sunday, August 9th at 4 pm ET. Autographs are also available. "

I've watched a few of these Trek ones before with other cast members.

BTW, Lower Decks (animated series) has started airing but I haven't been drawn enough by the trailers to want to pay for CBS All Access watch it. And, OT, here's something else I likely won't watch when it comes out: https://trekmovie.com/2020/07/23/st...revealed-for-new-nickelodeon-animated-series/.

Here's a copy of my brief review of ST: Lower Decks via the "Which TV Series Are You Binging On" thread:

Star Trek: Lower Decks is pretty much par for the course for modern Star Trek - - prioritizing mindless action over thoughtful writing (now with added shouting and lame comedy). The premiere episode was the last episode I'll ever watch.

The only current show that carries on the true spirit of Star Trek remains The Orville.
