but md has """health""" food also, so you can decide. apple has made the decision for you in many cases and you dont have an option to choose. you need use 3rd party apps and devices, and they work if they work..

i personally think that apple didnt really understand what a pen can do. they were too narrow-minded and only thought about it as replacing a finger not the possibilities it has. as we can see with Note-serie, the pen isnt just an extension for a finger - it has more functions.

This is completely possible. But I wonder if the things the pen can do now, was available back then. I definitely don't think they saw the "potential" of what it can do. Or maybe THEY couldn't do it so they basically downplayed it.

I Admire Steve Jobs. I truly think he was a visionary, and I think he brought a LOT to the table. But as some here have mentioned, he was a great salesman first and foremost. I believe one of two things... first, he was undoubtedly very stubborn, No one can deny that. It's the main reason he failed so often, and also the reason he such big successes. Second, he was very intelligent. I think either HE didn't like the stylus so didn't want it at all, or they weren't ready for the real technology of it (the digitizer etc) so they didn't include it. Either way, he had no choice but to talk it down, and minimize it so it wouldn't become a "missing technology" in the iPhone/iPad.

the notes with the pen have been around a while, so apple has had time to analyze its uses. Don't know if it's a cost issue, but having a stylus opens up so much more doors for applications and is easy to use.

yes they have had time. Apple usually waits a while to adopt new technology sometimes. Maybe they are waiting to fully intregrate it into all of their products? Not sure but imagine a IP6+ with a stylus that would also work on an iPad and touchscreen MBP and iMac? Might be interesting.....

i think one reason is the money. they get good profits from every single devices they sell. if they add more tech, their profit would decrease or they need to put even a higher price tag. another thing is, do they even know how to add more functions. nobody even knows do they have knowledge to build a device with a digitizer in.

I still think that no matter how useful a stylus can be, Apple will never make one - especially not one that comes paired with their devices. And this from a pure brand perspective. The stylus remains a symbol of the 90's PC nerd. This is precisely the image Apple doesn't want to evoke. Additionally, putting a stylus in a phone would look way, way too much like admitting fault on their part and copying Samsung. Thus I think this discussion is largely moot.

I'll repeat my disclaimer too, just in case ;) - I love the Note devices and the S Pen, and true PC nerds are my heroes <3

i do believe there will be somekind of an optimized pen in the near future. apple just cant miss it or they will loose markets alot. e.g. educational sector has been favor apple so far because they were first, but nowadays when google is offering edu-systems and teachers have recognized that with a pen you can do more, it is only matter of time when edu sector abandons apples devices.. searching information can be done by cheaper tablets, productivity needs better devices. if ypu check some vids "ipad school" you see soon how clumsy those bt-pens are... and not only clumsy but expensives...

This just in. Apple invites media to September 8, 2015 event: "Steve Was So Wrong." They wish they could say more.

I can see the benefit of a stylus, but how often would I ever need to use one? Uh, never. It's one more freakin thing I have to worry about- no thanks

I know several people with Samsung Notes, but only one uses the stylus regularly and in a task enhancing way. He's an engineer and takes photos and makes notations related to molds, metals and CNC calculations and measurements.

Everyone else leaves their Stylus holstered 99% of the time or is doing something that's just as well served with a finger.

Funny how any criticism of Apple is met by 'Apple have sold x number of...'.
Mcdonalds also sell huge numbers of burgers but it doesn't mean they're that great.

Thats a great analogy.......

But then Samsung is McDonalds since they sell the most smartphones (by far) of anyone in the world.

Now that's a good analogy.
McDonald : cheap, not great, sell a lot
Samsung / Android : cheap, not great, sell a lot

Nope.

Never in my life have I wanted to write on the screen of my phone. If I need to take a note, I use the Notes app. For everything else, your finger works just fine.

You clearly never worked with a Note 3 :)

The palm detection is brilliant. You really do write on a Note like you do on a piece of paper. It usually also does a good job in recognizing your handwriting .. Unless you are a doctor :)

Who cares? I learned how to type when I was 12. Why do I need to write with an external tool when the device I am using has a keyboard?

Hah! marrying a doctor and it is sooo true! His handwriting is worse than chicken scratch!

Back on topic. Could you or anyone else with a Note comment on using the note specifically for handwritten notes. I'm not so interested in the other S-pen functionalities (I like to keep it simple). But having a digital notepad sounds amazing and is making me seriously consider the Note 4 as my next phone (despite previously hating large screen phones and touchwiz)

Is the screen of a Note3/4 big enough to write notes on? All the examples I see are of people not really trying to write anything. They'll just scribble a big 'Hello World!' across the whole screen but that doesn't seem very useful. How small can you write and have it still be legible? Particularly WITHOUT handwriting recognition (which I also don't like - I know I'm weird)

A smart pen mated to Apple's new pressure sensitive displays like the one used in Apple Watch could be interesting.

Keep in mind when Steve first mentioned a stylus here is a prime example of what he is talking about:

stforpace690.jpg

Little different than interface methods in the Note, which to me are mostly dubious, but could be valuable to some, like the case I mentioned earlier. It is more functional than old Palm style toothpicks.

I use S Note on my N3 and Note tablet all the time as I attend a lot of lectures/meetings. I'm medical so my handwriting socks, but it does manage to be legible on both devices.

Isn't the iPhone the best selling phone in the world? Didn't Apple sell 12 million the first weekend? Isn't there 20 million pre orders from China? So who is McDonalds now?

Do what you like - I merely state features. I am not saying you "writing it wrong". Don't care what you or anyone thinks. Everyone to their own.

You can write pretty small, feels pretty smooth (clearly doesn't help with spelling LOL).

McDonalds is a company, same with Apple and Samsung. While iPhone is a product. So yeah, Samsung is still McDonalds.
