At least you got them to send a replacement cable. Im in a loop of an tech reaching out to their engineers for solutions. Im trying to think if I have any tb4 cables around now...Since the macOS reinstall didn't work, they're going to send me a replacement Thunderbolt cable to see if that works.
If not, I have to bring it in for service.
I'm a bit surprised it hasn't been publicized more than it has - probably because there are not that many people that actually have the ASD?
I got my new cable. Unfortunately no change. USB ports still freezing. At least you got them to send a replacement cable. Im in a loop of an tech reaching out to their engineers for solutions. Im trying to think if I have any tb4 cables around now...
Thanks for the suggestion. I have already done a power cycle for this issue and it didn't help. Also I never knew there was an issue with the speakers since I use external speakers on my system. Another weird problem with the ASD.the thread over in the mac accessories sub-forum suggests power cycling the Studio Display.
worked for me when my Studio Display started sputtering audio recently
So Im trying (again) to diagnose this issue again. I started from a new login and did what I normally do when It freezes (watch youtube vids) via chrome. Over an hour no issues. So I try plugging back peripherals one at a time. No issues. My chrome is still on the default setting playing the vids no problem. When I try to login to chrome via my google name, it reinstalls all my extensions... 15 min freeze. Not sure this is the reason yet. just a theory. Im going to try and uninstall and reinstall the extensions to see if its the case.Since the macOS reinstall didn't work, they're going to send me a replacement Thunderbolt cable to see if that works.

Update: Its still freezing with no extensions active but it can last up to 12+ hrs between freezes. Also when its in its "frozen" state. the ASD speakers are causing issues playing any media with sound. Probably due to the fact thats its on the same USB bus. Switching it to my external speakers the playback starts immediately. So Im trying (again) to diagnose this issue again. Yeah, Apple support is turning into Dell. Just reinstall the OS!I have opened a case at Apple, just to make them aware.
2nd level support first ask to reinstall OSX. Don't do this effort, it's a standard procedure with no value. Lie and tell them you reinstalled the OSX. Next the will send a new cable (you get it for free . It's on its way...
My guess: This is a software problem of the USB driver. After a while it will simply run into a deadlock. That's it. I am pretty sure that the Display will get an update soon.
Ill try the USB on the ASD after this update to see if it was addressed...Maybe the newly released macOS 12.5 update will fix our issue.
Sadly it doesn't look like a display firmware update is coming with this batch of updates.
If it bothers you enough, I would definitely return it. For myself, I opted to keep it, but have trained myself not to use the USB ports on the ASD and instead, rely on a separate USB hub that I connect directly to my MBP.Just got the display today after 3 months wait and having this exact issue. Have tried all the software update but nothing fixes it. Perhaps it is better to return the display than getting replacement?
