It seems like everywhere I go people dont like Macs. All the other kids at school are totally ignorant of them to. They dislike them cause there slow (iBooks from '99 are all they have used) what do they expect when they compare it to a new computer. I bring out the MBP and tell the another kid to bring his laptop out. He pulls out a 3in think dell clunker. He still insists that his is faster. I tell him to compile a program of some sort on his computer. Mine does it in 10 seconds, his is still going while I'm packing up and smirking. He just glares. And you should really see his face when I boot up into Windows while running OS X. That, my friends, is priceless. :)
Nice story! :)

I especially like the part where you run Windows as well. :D

Today I was in a store one of two apple resalers in town, this lady was asking about a HP desktop, she was asking all the usual questions to the "TECH GUY" I use that term loosely. She was asking about a HP she saw advertised, it had 3g of ram, a 500 gb hard drive, a 20 inch monitor, she was complaining about viruses, was telling him the things her family uses their current PC for, also that a printer she really liked didn't work with there current pc, she liked doing photo editing and that she needed to use three different programs for her photos, bla bla bla, this tech guy didn't want to sell her anything, he wanted her to go home and think about it. So me being me I joined in on the conversation, and suggested a mac. OMG you should of seen the look on his face. He than told her that apples "suck" and the only people that buy them are people that first bought macs when they first came out and that she would need to learn a whole new OS and that she would hate it if she bought it. I felt like he was insulting my intelligence. Than I said that I was a switcher and I really liked my mac.

Than it hit me as i was leaving the store, all the (two MB)s macs were turned off and the nice display they had in front when you first came in and turned to the left is gone. I think I'm going to apply for a jub at this store ;).

Wow. This kind of crap annoys me sooo much. I cannot stand people like this! Why???

I wish I would've been there to back you up, too. We could've double teamed the salesman. Hahaha

Here's a recent one that I encountered when I let a friend check his email on my Mac: "Where's the start menu?"

Happens all the time...in fact I've got TigerLaunch on my system just to show those who want a start menu for apps what the Mac can do...

There are no stupid questions - only stupid answers... Anybody who fails to see this has a serious problem. BUT...
I agree as sometimes it's hard listening to those 'theories' so in my opinion this topic should be renamed to:

Stupid people - their questions and believes.

You're right, the only stupid thing is stupid answers. It's the assertions PC users make that are truly stupid.

Sorry, but shouldn't that be "beliefs"? I don't think it follows the "knife, leaf" rule.

"Stupid" questions

At despair.com, they have some posters, one of which reads:

Cluelessness: There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

Food for thought. :)

They're nothing compared to the total wishful-thinking BS that comes out of the minds of the true Apple acolytes.

All things in moderation.

To be fair, the veterans of this site don't engage in too much fanboy-ism. It seems that there is a more ardent zeal from newer members.

I use to work at a TV station, KTLA. Hated all the cheap Dells everybody used, and the funny thing is everyday, somebody always runs into computer trouble. Either some guy can't log on to something, or someone looses a bunch of data. One day my boss tells me he loss all his data on his computer. Knowing I'm sort of a techie he asks, "Hey you're a computer guy aren't you?" (Probably intending to ask for my help). I said, "Ya but I use a Mac at home." With a grunt he responds, "I hate Macs."

I was explaining to a friend why I'd bought my Mac. I said I was going into video editing (through Final Cut Pro) and I said Macs are very good with that. She says, "but I heard PCs are better when it comes to video editing."

My girlfriend was telling me about her usual gripes with her HP laptop. I asked, "what's wrong?" "Oh it's just being stupid right now." (I just loooove it when people try to anthropomorphize computer problems like it's just human temperament that will go away if you give it a "timeout") I mentioned if she had thought about getting a Mac or at least trying it because mines never give me the kind of problems she was having. She was flat out disgusted, "I can't stand Macs. One of my professors made us take a final on a Mac and I couldn't figure out how to do anything!"
I asked, "like what?"
She: "They have no backspace button so you can't do this this and this"

I'm one of those 'stupid' PC users

I thought I’d sneak into this thread to voice my opinion but not without a small introduction. As a complete and utter newbie it is the polite thing to do. I’m from that small country at the Northsea and live in the second city; Rotterdam. Husband to Anne and father to our 18 year old daughter Kayleigh. IT Coordinator at a branch of a Dutch multinational in liquid and gas storage. Among many other duties responsible for running two (Mimix) mirrored IBM iSeries i520 (planned downtime 12 hours per year, no un-planned downtime since we started to use AS/400s in 1994). Medium sized network with fat and thin Windows clients. Soon to be completely virtualized on a cluster of 3 servers running VMWare ESx 3. Consolidated storage and back-up solution.

Early Apple user but pre Mac era (Apple ][ Euro Plus). First ‘home’ computer was a Sinclair ZX-80 with 4K of RAM. I think my experience goes beyond that of the average home user. I collect (replica) US flight jackets from the 1938-1956 era, I like industrial design and am just a 47 year old boy.

It must be me but very often discussions on Apple forums, irrespective of the subject, wind up comparing Apple (or Mac, or OS X or Steve) to Microsoft (or Wintel, or Windows or Bill). And the best meal ticket seems the loud proclamation of encounters with ‘stupid’ PC users and horrifying tales of desperate PC users with their virus and mal-ware ridden, bloated excuses for computers.

This whole unnecessary but well cultivated underdog position is something I don’t understand. And I find it hard to believe that an individual will, unsolicited, proclaim that he “hates Macs”. Remember that a coin has two sides (actually, it has 3 sides) and there is a natural way of things. Large corporate networks are usually ‘manned’ by Wintel machines, in our case a balanced mix of fat and thin clients. The nature of our business means that this is the best solution. Because that is what we do, we look for solutions.

Enough of this possibly agitating small-talk. My next PC (!) will be an iMac. I already have a nice quote from a dealer and can no longer wait ‘till Leopard hits the shelves. 20”, 2.4 GHz., 500 GB disc, 4 GB RAM, iWork ’08 and the new AirPort Extreme. If you permit me, I will share my experiences with that iMac soon. And who knows, maybe I’ll see the light too. :)

Take care,

Frans.

Are these really questions you would hear from a PC user, or a potential switcher?

PC users that ARE potential switchers... I get it all the time... People who stand up for the PC and then a few months later they will ask me these questions...

Strangely enough, I've never been a 'honors student' in the traditional sense but managed somehow to scrape 80s and get into a good college. Upon reaching college my grades fell pretty dramatically and it was only upon the purchase of my Powerbook in 2005 that I began winning departmental honors and academic awards. Coincidence? I think not.

Tell them that only the most gifted students qualify for Macs, the more pedestrian intellects have to settle for windows! :D
( It's only a joke PC guys, don't get your knickers in a wad!)

Well, they do have to safe face don't they...perhaps you should ask them what happened to their precious PC.
