Ok! Enough already! You're arguing opinion!

What would you do if someone made noise that Windows PC's don't have three mouse buttons like classic UNIX machines?

Let's move on...

Most of them already have it nowadays: The scroll wheel also works as a button, which is the same on mighty mouse. And it's great in Safari: Opens a link in a new tab.

Most of my friends used to mock me for being a Mac zealot, but these days the ones that aren't outright interested in crossing over are, at least, well-educated about the platform. Most of the time it simply doesn't fit their needs.

Shame, but it could be worse.

I know that the Tech Manager at my work was loathe to allow me to do PCAnywhere work on my personal laptop, thinking it would be more trouble than it was worth (he'd rather I drag home one of the huge old Dell Inspiron pieces of crap they keep lying around). I booted XP (thank you MSDN) in a little window on my desktop, set up the software, tested it, closed the notebook, and went upstairs without a word. He continued messing around with his Dell.

I love sudden, peaceful coexistance.

I hate most of the stupid John Lewis Sales men that most likely all have PCs telling me "This iMac G5 the latest chip from intel and will run any application put infront of it including windows ones and it is also 65-bit" When I checked the "About This Mac" Page and it said it was a iMac g5. They ramble on about this and that which to anyone with any comon sence would see they are just trying to sell it because they get more commission if they sell a mac.

I was looking around on this site during lunch and my friend says, "Why do you love Mac computers so much? Macs suck, dude." To which I replied, "If you're gonna say something sucks, at least research it first like I did. When's the last time you used a Mac?" "uuhhh 6 or 7 years ago."

I dunno. Where I worked, people hated doing Mac sales because the store profits were so insanely slim (we would buy the machines for $1300 and have to sell them at $1400) that the commission was almost nil compared to selling PC systems.

So does most of the rest of the world.

But...two hands on my touchpad in addition to two hands on my keyboard. Why not two hands on the keyboard and one hand on the trackpad when needed?

Because I can have two hands at the keyboard while those two hands can also operate the mouse at the same time? I have no need to move my hands around, I just keep them where I would type, and while they are there, they can also operate the mouse.

You lot have just reminded me of a comment by a PC user once...

Some of my parents friend came around and we were talking about computers and when i said a had a mac he said "Oh i see because your only young, ok". I was so angry at that point and i felt like shouting about how crap Windows is and how Macs rule and i still dont realy know why i didnt... Oh well.

So I formatted my PC, installed updates, AV, etc. I also installed Opera, put it on the desktop labelled "Opera". Next day at school, I get a phone call from my mum asking "wheres the internet gone?!". I tell her to wait until I get home, as being a tech support guy during school is really geeky (looking at you, SBT ;)). I get home, look at the screen and tell her to double click "Opera" and she says "but thats not the internet", and refuses to do so. Later, I changed the Opera icon to IEs, and renamed it to "Internet" and she was completley fine with it. Don't know how she would cope with Safari  !

Pretty sure I said that I'm done with this. If you absolutely need the last word, please, go ahead.

This hurts my head. Nothing against your mom.

I installed Camino on our iMac and my dad refuses to use it on the basis that it's not identical to Safari.

Pathetic parents! Actually my Dad did a degree in IT-something but now he knows nothing. He wrote the program that Marathon Oil uses to schedule stuff-and bloody good it is too.

Heh. My dad's just a creature of habit - he's been running Safari on his G4 TiBook since the day he got it. I, happily, had no such attachment to the program.

I can't stand ignorant Windows users. They say the stupidest things sometimes and it makes me think "Why would anyone even say that?"

Where is my right mouse button? ohhhh wait thats not a stupid question, just a hard headed company that refuses to build a real mouse... everyone must buy a 3rd party mouse (and here comes the mickymouse comments.. who ever heard of lifting your left finger to right click)

Quit f*cking arguing over one vs. two mouse buttons. It's a matter of f*cking preference. Some people prefer 2+ buttons on their mice. Others are perfectly content with one. Nobody's going to accomplish anything by saying "I have 2 REAL mouse buttons, I'm holier than thou", "You need to lift your finger to right-click, so the MM should be thrown to hell", "WTF is this ctrl-click crap?!" "I have to contort my body to make a right click?!?" "OMG I have to lift ANOTHER F*CKING FINGER because Apple can't make a real 2 button mouse!!!!!! *bitchcomplainwhineomg*" Honestly, do you need some more pillows so you can't feel the pea under the all the pillows you already have, princess?

I don't mean to contribute to this dead horse, but I have to comment on this one. When the mighty mouse first came out and people mentioned this, I payed close attention to my mousing habits and realized that I have always lifted my index finger slightly off the button to right click. I would imagine that many other users have, too.

Why didn't you explain to your mum what Opera was?

Trust me, I know people similar to that guy's Mum. You could explain until you were blue in the face about what Opera was but it wouldn't matter one iota. To them, the internet is the big blue "E" and nothing else will suffice.

The current obstinacy in preserving the purity of design in preference to superior functionality though is one of the fundamental tenets behind the inferiority of the Mac Experience in some cases. It's all swings and roundabouts to me as far as the OS is concerned - you can get a lot more done in some applications, yet in others it can hamper you. Same as Windows but in a different way.

I have the same problem as your dad. I just like the way Safari looks.

We have always been a PC family until I bought my iMac last month. I always get a Mac's suck every now and again from my sister and brother. Mother (a computer programmer) ranted about how she doesn't think they are as good as some say they are.

My sister calls it the iTrash and is still content with her 5 year old, spyware infested, slow POS Dell she has. Stupid Windows users :).

I just laugh at them. Im sure the last time they used a mac was back when our schools used the old Apple IIe's so their preception is skewed as to how far macs have come these days.

And even then, they kicked ass. :)

Using my iMac G3 the other night, with a friend over.
