I'll be honest, it's pretty. And a lot of the features are super cool.

Won't be enough to make me switch over from my Macs, but I do use Windows professionally...and this thing would look great in my office...and my office computer is starting to show its age...hmmm.........

980M. I wonder why they didn't go for an MXM GTX 1070.

Either way, they've single handedly stumped Apple.

Also, I'm shocked about what they've been able to fit inside that enclosure. Makes you wonder about what Apple could put in the Mac mini if they put some effort into it.

Just had a very quick look - that does appear to be a gorgeous bit of kit. Offers pretty much everything that some people were asking for from an iMac. Guess we'll see some switchers.

I've been saying for years that the old static point and click desktop is ancient and needs desperate upgrading.

This is everything I expected Apple to do first. I guess the baton of innovation really is passing over. It's a tragedy in many respects. Sure, Apple will almost certainly shift the iMac in this direction as this is the new standard for desktops, but the fact that they are second probably means that their great innovative years are behind them. Might be good idea to short their stocks now...

...Unless, they pull something spectacular out of the bag tomorrow.

Apple should be doing wild things like these Surface products. The iPad Pro shows how slow they are though and still feels like a half-assed job thanks to iOS.

The iMac can use a new form factor. Not saying they should do completely the same as Microsoft (haven't tried their products and the Studio has not been tested by anyone), but they could do a little more to target the creative professionals.

Windows 10 is solid, fast and stable. Its a great OS that definitely give OS X a run for its money. In some ways it exceeds OS X.

Settings in Windows 10 is still a train wreck. Microsoft needs to copy MacOS system preferences.
Also I don't like how apps with long names get cut in the new Start Menu. You can't even resize it. Launchpad for the Mac is better than Microsoft's implementation of it.

Well, I don't know about you, but I just watched the intro video on my 5k iMac and I think that for the first time, despite clinging onto the notion that Apple's products are the best, second-to-none, I'm swayed!! For the first time, I'm looking at my iMac and it's... ordinary! If it were a MacOS product, I think I'd be on it. I can't tolerate Windows. To be honest, I'm not a fan of the way it looks under the screen. That hinge might be a brilliant piece of engineering, but I prefer the one-piece stand on the iMac. The dial thing looks pretty interesting - think I'll go and watch the full demo. But until I can otherwise convince myself that I'm not missing out on something, I really wish Apple had come up with this - they've had enough time!

Windows 10 itself is a train wreck. I've been a Mac user for going on a decade but I had no problems with Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. All my office computers run Windows 10 and it is an absolute disaster.

And, one more thing... (see what I did there?) - I had NO IDEA this was coming! Usually MR is a haven for the type of rumour-mongering that happens before a launch of this magnitude - the whole MacBook Pro update lead-up has lasted for what seems like months now!! But I can't remember seeing anything about this previously. Looks like Microsoft are doing pretty well in becoming the new Apple right now! What a kick in the teeth!

I'm enjoying my Surface Pro 4, but Microsoft is dropping the ball in some places and it's holding back the Surface line. My friend's Surface Book has been and continues to be a horrible buggy mess.

As an iMac owner, that looks beautiful. I'm still not sold on putting my grubby paws all over my screen, though...

If the new Macbooks tomorrow aren't touchscreen, apple is in deep trouble... MS is seriously an all new company.. As I posted in another thread - this Surface Studio is simply amazing.. I'm not spending another $1500-$2000 for non-upgradeable 3 year old tech... I jumped on the apple train back in 2005, and as much as I hate to say it, its getting harder and harder to stay... if it weren't for OSX, I'd be out (I still don't care for Windows new interface).

Yes..the new Surface Studio is stunning. It's everything Apple should've done with the iMac YEARS ago. And yes, looks like this new Microsoft is becoming the old Apple we used to love. But HOLY SMOKES it's under-spec'd and OVERPRICED.

https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Surface-Studio/productID.5074015900

The base $3000 model gets you an i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a GT965M GPU . 3 Grand and only 8GB of RAM and a mid-tier mobile GPU from 2014?!?!?

The one they were talking about and showcasing in the event is $4200!! Over $4000 for a computer with a 980M GPU? Again, it's pure robbery for that price!

The whole computer is stunning, and it's a lovely direction for home computers, but it's insanely expensive right now. This computer right now only makes sense for pure designers and artists. It's not a home computer at that price.

But Apple have got to reinvent themselves. Freaking Microsoft are outrunning them now.

Guys, price this thing out before you get too excited. If you compare to the 2015 27 inch iMac, and try to equalize the specs (processor, RAM, HD, GPU) as much as possible, you will see that it's a LOT more expensive. The fully loaded Surface Studio is a whopping $4,200, and that only comes with a 2 GB hard drive (the 3 TB fusion drive equivalent isn't even an option). Would you pay $4,200 for an iMac? If you get the $2,999 Surface Studio, you get an i5 processor, 1 TB HD and 8 GB of RAM. For $700 less, you get a similar iMac, but with the 2 TB fusion drive.

Yes, it's definitely cool to lay that thing down and write on it like your writing or drawing on an easel. But, if you're not an artist or an architect, isn't it just a $700 novelty extra, used more for impressing friends than actually doing anything useful? Yes, if you draw for a living, knock yourself out. But if not, what are you thinking? As cool as it looks, I just can't even consider it. PLUS, there are NO performance specs which are any better than LAST YEAR'S iMac!! It makes me more willing to buy the 2015 iMac after all!

Exactly feel the same way. Fantastic looking computer, and Apple should've done this to the iMac a while back, but priced like people grow money on trees.

The 5K iMac is roughly $2300 (the display on this MS computer is roughly 5K) and you don't get half the features this one does. You also get similar specs (i5, 8 GB RAM, etc).

For the similarly spec'd high end iMac, it's $3400 and an even lesser GPU. Both are insanely expensive.

Clearly the display and its features are the selling point here and for a niche professional market.
