Did you do anything else with it? Which Opencore variation/package/legacy/whatever they are all called did you use?

Any other specific changes you made to the config.plist? Can you put more details, as much as possible please.

You can try my version
I’ll give it a go if you want to share it. Or at least I can check the differences.

I’m putting 11.6.1 on now and that appears to be going okay so far.

Did you do any VMM flag or other things?

Edit: damn, that failed totally! 11.6.1 is dead. Knew I shouldn’t have done that. Okay, back to clean install 11.6 again

Edit 2: CMD OPT P R trick worked, then it finished.

I try to update to Monterey from 11.6.1, but don't install... don't throw any error...

I run the Monterey installer (from system update) and seems working, but when reset 3 times (one of them I can see how many minutes left), BigSur again...

Similarly I've tried 3 times and it boots back into Big Sur - very strange indeed. I tried installing 11.6.1, unplugging my Time Machine disk and retrying but to no avail :-(

Yeah, that’s what it does. I tried again and did the trick I used above for getting 11.6.1 to work. Same result - restarts without completion. It’s too late tonight to do more. I’ll try tomorrow and thanks Kevin for the attachment. I think I know what’s happening but no time left to verify today.

There are two Macintosh HDs that display on the boot picker with the first selected for first boot moving to the second on the next reboot.

I tried manually switching to the first with no result
I tried resetting the NVRAM and reinstalling for the 5th or 6th time with no result

...it would be interesting to hear if anyone else is experiencing this problem - I'd rather not have to install from scratch if this is where I'm leading.

@donvito4ever, this thread is related to SurPlus. If the issue you are experiencing is not related to SurPlus, you should ask elsewhere. If you are using @cdf's instructions (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/opencore-on-the-mac-pro.2207814/), perhaps you should post in that thread, or, better still, take advantage of the model config.plist in post #1 there. On the other hand, if you are using OCLP or some alternative solution, I suggest that you post your query in the relevant support thread.

I had 11.6 running okay but stupidly updated to 11.6.1 and now have lost one HDMI output/monitor and the OS no longer sees the KEXT for my PCIe audio card, which I managed to install after much fuss.

My own fault, but I will have to try to figure out how to re-install the KEXT ASAP! I have no recollection how I did it...

So, beware of 11.6.1...

Spec: 12x 3.46GHz 4,1 -> 5,1 with RX 580 8GB Pulse and h9826790's OC 0.7.4

But thanks gods you have a backup, right?

It's just a test drive at the moment, with the idea that it would become my main drive when everything is stable. Although it rescued me when certain Logic projects weren't working in Mojave, and a Logic update that required Big Sur saved me. So I do have a couple of projects that require Big Sur, now.

The HDMI is back through randomly unplugging and plugging in a few times, and the KEXT was reinstalled easily using Hackintool.

I can't seem to figure out how to make the PCIe sound card's Pref pane work properly, but that's probably a problem for another thread!

So, I'm back to where I was, thankfully. Just a heads up to any other non-hardcore OC'ers that any update has risks, however 'minor'.

So reporting potential problems from updating to 11.6.1 using surplus to users of surplus is not relevant to a thread on surplus... OK

Please delete my post, along with all the other posts who have mentioned that they've updated to 11.6.1 and Monterey successfully using surplus.

I updated my 2010 cMP from 10.14 to 11.6.1 with the help of SurPlus. No issues so far.

@PeterHolbrook may be on to something here - I'm still not running 12.1, so I have no relevant test platform right now, but I did have a look at the code, and it appears they've been tinkering with a lock in register_and_init_prng. Without a test platform, I can't say much for certain, but it looks like it's definitely worth trying to boot 12.1 without SurPlus (just disable the two patches for the test) - there's a real chance that the race condition might not be an issue in the released version of 12.1.

If you give this a try, please post results, positive and negative, in this thread. Thank you.
