That's fine. Monterey will still boot without the extra FirmwareFeatures bit. As my post states, the extra bit is for the installation, not booting.

Next release of what? Besides, as post #290 explains, the extra FirmwareFeatures bit is not the only option, but something indeed needs to be added.

My post clearly states that the FirmwareFeatures and SecureBootModel solution is my preference. You are of course free to choose whichever solution is best for you.

As far as I'm concerned this issue is settled, and, as an off-topic parenthesis, it shouldn't be dragged any further. Remember, this thread is about SurPlus, undoubtedly one of the top achievements in prolonging the life of the classic MacPro!

Unfortunately, there still appears to be issues with certain SSD's and Big Sur 11.6, or at least my SSD's. I have OWC Mercury Electra Extreme Pro 6G as my install drive in Bay 1 of my cMP 5,1. The install works fine and the system boots fine, but I am getting kernel panic's. This occurs randomly, sometimes as soon as a few minutes after boot and other times it may be an hour after boot. I have OC 0.7.3 (v2) installed with no modifications to config.plist, except for Radeon Boost being enabled. I did the install on a SATA HDD and received no kernel panic's for the 48 hours I left it up and running. For the time being, I have gone back to 11.2.3, which works fine. I don't want to use the SATA HDD because it is significantly slower than my SSD. Hoping someone comes up with a solution.

hmm, odd. That was not the situation at all with 11.3+ on the 5,1 but rather an initial boot up issue. Was this a fresh install/setup on the SSD? I've got 0.7.4/11.6 running on an OWC M.2 NVMe in a PCIe slot. It's been flawless alongside Avid HDX and UAD Octo PCIe cards.

@Syncretic - thanks mucho for this! What a simple pleasure it is to boot my Mac without any verbose mode suspense and expectation of or preparation for failure. Awesome, well done.

thanks mucho for this!
Allow me a little off-topic digression on this expression. My wife is Spanish, so I've learned something about her native language. "Gracias" is Spanish for thanks or thank you. Gracias is a countable (and plural) feminine noun. On the other hand, "mucho" is a singular masculine adjective meaning much or lots/a lot of; if it were to be applied to a feminine noun it would be "mucha". However, for a plural feminine noun, it needs to be "muchas" (many). Actually, Spaniards say "Muchas gracias" for Many thanks.

I agree, it is odd and not the same issue that caused failed installs, because the install went perfectly. But, it is definitely something with >11.2.3 and my type of SSD. I did multiple fresh installs, all with the same result. The only one that did not receive a kernel panic was when I installed on one of my old SATA drives. I stayed on it for 48 hours and did not receive a kernel panic.

Monterey Beta 10, installed flawlessly with SurPlus.
Been having problems installing Beta 9 and Beta 10 on my 5,1 CMP. Downloads ok but installer just keeps restarting and then changes reboot disk goes back to the old monterey install disk. If i force to boot the installer partition via OC boot picker it just loads for a bit and then restarts. I already have VMM turned on via OC. Previous monterey versions have installed no problem only started happened with beta 9

Very weird

That's odd. Both Cpuid1Data and Cpuid1Mask are enabled?

I had the same issue with Martin's package installed. Switched to OCLP 0.3.0 and it worked immediately. Just ran OpenCore-Patcher-TUI.app.zip over existing Martin's package, restarted and upgraded to Monterey 12 Beta 10 via Software Update. Worked on both my cMP's. Give it a try.

Hope someone can help, but getting the following error when verifying the config.plist with the SurPlus patch added in:

config.plist: Property List error: Close tag on line 238 does not match open tag array / JSON error: JSON text did not start with array or object and option to allow fragments not set.

Tried every permutation/formatting of the text to no avail..

This is as far as I've got with Opencore after several days of hitting a brickwall - latest OCLP simply refuses to build and the instructions are a bit vague. So battling through this manual approach.

Search for <key>Misc</key>

Above <key>Misc</key> you have two </dict>

Remove one of them.

All I can say is “wow! . I’ve been working on BS 11.2 on my CMP5,1, holding on from updating. Now with Surplus as part of OCLO 0.3.0, updating was as easy as updating OC and then having BS update itself to 11.6. all in all, this took some 15 minutes. Wow !

Thanks, thanks, thanks ! Donation on the way.

greetz,
Willem

It could just be a quirk of my setup but since using SurPlus I haven't been able to boot into my DosDude patched Catalina installation.

(I keep it installed on a spare drive in the event I break OC and can't boot into Big Sur/Monterey)

You aren't trying to boot a DosDude patched install via OpenCore are you?

I just upgraded my test Hackintosh from Big Sur 11.6 to Monterey Beta 10 then Monterey 12.0.1 RC and SurPlus still works wonders! Didn't have to change the max kernel value for 12.0.1

I have Martin's OpenCore 0.7.1 installed on my 5,1, but I'm still running Mojave 10.14.6 (I had Big Sur installed a while back but I tried to update and got stuck in the loop – so I rolled back to Mojave but kept OpenCore for the video acceleration).

Can I update from 0.7.1 to 0.7.4, then update via Software Update directly from Mojave to the latest Big Sur 11.6 ?

Has anybody tried 0.7.4 with the Monterey GM release? Is it stable? Curious if it's worth just waiting until Monday 25th and updating direct from Mojave to Monterey.
