The problem with IUP is that it doesn't include insurance....So I'm paying full retail for Applecare over the 24 months PLUS paying insurance to Tmo....with the insurance you get Applecare protection, that's part of the reason I've kept JOD. My 3 year tenure is December...so depending on pricing I may have to wait this year to upgrade....
Apple just added lost and theft protection to Apple Care, it $299. So I'll get that instead. I usually buy both no need now.

So I chatted with T-Mobile and asked how much I have left to pay for the iPhone X last year so I can pay it off and sell it on eBay or something and get the XS Max. They tell me it’s $425 left, but I still have a $12.50 credit for the next 14 months that would bring that price down to $250 if I pay it out monthly.

Am I a fool for even considering the upgrade? I have wanted a big phone for a long long time but losing out of $175 worth of credits makes me feel like a dummy for even considering it. Are there any options you guys know of T-Mobile might have for someone in my situation?

Were you able to find out further what Apple does in terms of refund? Ideally I'd love to trade it in to get it off the purchase price vs a gift card, so not sure if better bet is monthly payments or just pay up front in full.
Awesome, thanks. When pre-ordering through apple, does anyone find it better to have sent to home or pickup in store?

I believe you will still continue to get 12.50 credit towards your bill for the next 14 months.

I think you pay the full price for the phone and once it’s accessed by Apple they send you either a gift card or refund you.

Hmm - that's why I'm sort of in a quandary about what to do, because I think we've got about $542 left on each iPhone X on the JoD lease which includes remaining payments and purchase price.

I have an iPhone 8 that I got last year from t-Mobile. It's on installment plans, the EIP or whatever it's called. I want to trade the phone in but switch to the Apple iPhone Upgrade Plan. I hear they are giving $300 credit for a trade-in phone. Would I be able to trade in my phone and just use the $300 (Or whatever they give me) to pay off the remaining balance on the phone?

Since I am not actually going to upgrade through them, my thinking is I wont even be eligible for the $300 Trade in offer.

$300 trade in credit “if” your phone is paid off

Well shoot. How is the credit even given? Bill credit?

Maybe I could pay off the phone and then get the $300. I would more or less break even which is what I ultimately want. Can I get the credit and just apply it to my bill since I wont be getting my new phone through them?

From my understanding is when you pay off the phone you loose your EIP credits from the promotion. I could be wrong but that’s what I heard. $300 credit towards new iPhone only will work with iPhone 7, 7plus, and 8. $200 for 6s and 6s plus, $100 for 6plus all the way down to the original iphone

That is what I did. Mainly because I went with the Iup through Apple and was concerned that the EIP would cause trouble through tmobile. I paid off early through web with T-Mobile. Now I will use my current X to trade in at Apple, as they are offering $525 for it.

One thing to take in account for people that want to go from JOD to the iPhone upgrade program, with the iPhone upgrade program you have to pay all of the sales tax on the full amount up front. It’ll be about $80-100 depending on where you are. That plus the $54 monthly will put you at $725-750 for having it for a year. Even if JOD comes out with $200 down payment, and payments at $40 a month, that’s $680 so it’ll still be cheaper.

Quick question. I play on buying my phone outright. Does it matter if I buy the sim unlocked or the tmobile version? I want to take advantage of the new Bands that work in the outskirts of town/ inside buildings?

Hey! Thanks for the reply. That helped a lot. So you paid off the phone but rather than trading in to T-Mobile, you traded into Apple? Do you get to keep the trade-in money or can it go towards your new phone?

Would I even have time to pay off my phone today before the pre-orders tonight? I already did the pre approval last night in the Apple Store App. (This will be my first time using the Apple IUP.)

Or do I even need my phone paid off tonight? I suppose I can just get the new phone then pay off my old one and then worry about trading it in.

Since not going through T-Mobile, then you would just have to pay it off before any trade in
I paid online and got messages immediately stating my device was purchased and my EIP was complete.
As for the trade in, you can trade it in anywhere...I was just looking around and it seemed Apple has the highest offer (aside from selling it yourself). I am new to the process as well, but from what I understand they will mail you a shipping box/label and you send it in. If you elect to have the new phone picked up in a store, I think you can have the direct amount applied prior to financing. That is why I was ok to pay my $400 off on tmobile as the phone w/trade in will "only" cost me about $500 after the credit.

Can you apply the credit from your traded-in phone towards an Apple iPhone Upgrade Plan? I was googling and I can't find any information on that. I was under the impression you HAVE to finance the full price through the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program.

If I trade it in?

I would call them and ask them. But I remember I just paid off my 7 plus EIP Deal early. I had a trade in previously (old 6 plus) that had 300+ credit. I am still receiving credit monthly for a phone I don’t have

Unfortunately I won't know more till tomorrow morning when I officially try the pre-order. I am hoping there is a way to use the trade value at time of purchase, as I like apple but, could really use the $500 elsewhere....guess if I HAVE to get it on a gift card, I will be getting a new apple watch too :)

Your lucky then I've always paid 15 bucks. Anyone else only paying 12? For me 12 is only for regular insurance no applecare.

I pay $12 as well....there are two tiers that include applecare...the $15 tier includes McAfee as well..which I have no use for...

any word on lowering the price of the X i think im going to get last years model
Apple will not be selling the 2017 X anymore. The only old phones they will sell are 7 and 8 (and plus variants thereof).

Maybe third party resellers might have X phones until stock is gone, I'm not sure.
