Another example, Microsoft shouldn't sign Mac Pro BootROM at all, since it's EFI 1.10 and SecureBoot requires that the firmware follow UEFI 2.3.1C spec.

Yes I assumed that, if I try to Imagine what prozesses must run, before post its clear.
In a PC Bios it is a bit more visible whats happening before post.
If I remember it right, that is 10 years Ago =)

Hahaha, maybe MS is doing that on purpose, to screw up the old Cheesegrater.
Revenge of some sort, most likely they just dont care.

Is it possible to supply the Titan Radge with external power so that the card remains signed even when the computer is switched off? So you only have to boot into Windows once, have the card signed and then back to Mac OS.

Most likely not, the card gets power from PCI also.
If there would be a easy way, it most likely would have been found by now.
The fact it is working at all, seems more like a coincidence / accident, or just enough old EFI bits.

So far, it worked great for me, no glitches no problems.
With the: "choose windows as boot volume" Apple-script its is halfway automated.

I did find a way to automate it in windows.
So far no one I asked seems to know how to, and how to omit the script at start up in case of a problem. Optimal would be a keystroke to omit the script at start up.

Since I really dont know how to make it work safe, I didnt dare to do that in Windows. Maybe safe mode would omit it, but I dont know. I dont have two installations to experiment, and I really need it working.
Probably its not a big deal if one knows.

With the two scripts and a safe "opt out" for Windows it would be totally automated.
The complete booting process would be about 40 to 50 seconds.

Basically pressing the power button once, walk away pour a coffe, while the machine boots Windows and restarts to OSX by it self, walk back sit down and OSX is there with a working THB.

We could change the apple script to "change start volume -> shut down" With a alias in the Dock or a alias in the sidebar of the finder window and on the desktop and where ever one wants it, and use that version of the script, instead of choosing shut down.

What I didnt manage is using the script as a startup item, if that would work it would be like normal, just shut down normal and the next time it will start into windows.

When I tried that, it complained something about invalid ..... or permission ....
I dont remember.

So far thats the best option I found in order to use a THB Audio interface on the Cheesegrater.

I tried the last hours to find a way how to auto start in windows, and after logging in, program an automation with "ghost mouse" to restart into Mac OS.

1) after restarting from windows via bootcamp system manager into Mac OS, the boot order automatically changes back to Mac OS as startup volume = the system will start into Mac OS the next time I turn on the Mac Pro. I couldn't find a way to avoid that.

2) using ghost mouse or other similar programs: I expierienced the problem that the last click on "Restart" in boot camp needs to be executed and after that one would need to hit save in "ghost mouse" - which will obviously not work because the Mac shuts down immediately.

maybe the way I try to automate this startup process is totally wrong (seems so to me)... I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.


another thing which is a little bit annoying is that I will loose the thunderbolt connection to my UAD apollo16 as soon as the Mac Pro is in standby mode. Do you have the same problem with your audio interface?

I dont know that, I dont use stand by because I use a PCI SSD, and that SSD does not like standby.

If you dont have in osx a script running to change the boot volume back to windows, it will of course restart In to osx. so I dont get if you have something in osx to choose windows again.

Basically its also task recording.

tinytask is also a task recorder, its also pretty slow. I had it work but I never tried to use it automatically, so For now Im still doing the clicking in windows =)

i understand now that it is not possible without implementing scripts into the two operating systems which will auto change the boot volume.

in the moment my focus changed a little bit as I have massive bandwidth problems with the titan ridge card:

in idle state, without even having my DAW running the DSP load on my apollo card is 21%. this is way too much.

if I open a new Ableton live session and add 7 new tracks and insert a UAD preamp plugin into each, the DSP load will be 100% AND the CPU load will be +50%. on my mbp this would be no problem at all.

the apollo16mk2 is connected via an apple tb3 -> tb2 adaptor. latest firmware of course. using usbC port 1 or 2 on the titan ridge also makes no difference.

i have no other explanation that the reason is the link width of the titan ridge card. I tried slot 3 and slot 2 but the link width will always be x1 @ 2,5gt.

drivers load fine in win and OS.

I would appreciate it if someone could post his opinion... if there is no way increase bandwidth I will have to use my mbp 2016 again - but I really would like to avoid that.

with IDC off and a cue bus count of 2, I manage to have a load of 8% idle @ 44.1 kHz on the apollo dsp's

that would be acceptable. but my CPU load in Live is somewhat high compared to the low track counts I test with. 10 tracks with some Ableton live synths + audio fx and maybe a UAD plugin here and there shouldn't give me 20-30% CPU load.

I have to admit that this is not my idea of how to use high-end interfaces.

I never had to reduce cue buses or sampling frequency when working on the Mac book. I usually use 96kHz.

maybe I overestimated the capabilities of the mp5.1.

2x X5675 should not be slow, my brother has a 5.1 2x X5690.
Of course 2x X5690 is a bit faster bit not that much.
Yeah the new macbook pro is faster, but ...
if pushed it gets hot and throttles, which makes it really slow, much slower than a 5.1
A 12core 5.1 is still a pretty bad long therm number chruncher monster, what we cant say from a pro book.
You have only 3+3 ram slots populated, so it cant be that either.
If I remember right, the link speed is reported wrong with the TITAN RIDGE.
I cant check though my 5.1 died last week.

30 % CPU on all cores ?
Ableton does multi core right ?

The card being tested is the GC-TITAN RIDGE, not the GC-ALPINE RIDGE.

I've tried the GC-TITAN RIDGE in slot 2 of a Mac Pro (Early 2008) MacPro3,1 running Windows 10. Read speed from a Samsung 960 Pro 1TB in an OWC Mercury Helios 3 was only 706 MB/s meaning the slot was probably running at PCIe gen 1 speed instead of gen 2. Do you have a link or instructions for installing pciutils for Windows? I could use that to try and force gen 2 speed. The Amfeltec Squid Gen3 PCIe Carrier Board for 4 M.2 SSDs is similar to the Highpoint SSD7101-a. I could try getting gen 3 speed with that.

The 6 pin power connections are not required unless you plan on charging a laptop from the Thunderbolt ports. The USB 2.0 connection is not required unless you want to connect USB 2.0 devices to the Thunderbolt ports (such as in the LG UltraFine 4K). The Thunderbolt AIC header connection is not required (maybe it's for hot plug support which I don't think works in my case).

I did alot of research and as far as I know, I should be good to go. But I'm still not getting a response from my Apollo Twin MK2 in either windows or mac.

6 Core 2.66gHz
32 gb RAM
Radeon HD 5870 GPU
Running Mac OSX High Sierra

Titan Ridge PCIe USBC in Slot 2
Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Certified Apple adapter.

I've seen people with similar or identical setup/circumstances run their thunderbolt 2 devices without a problem with the handshake boot from windows to mac. But I can't seem to get it working one bit.

It happened ONCE where I booted into Windows and checked the "Thunderbolt Control Center" from the Gigabytes driver and it recognized the Apollo, saw exactly what the device was, etc. But It still didn't sync with the UAD software. Since then it hasent really worked at all.

Is there a step by step process that YOU followed to get your rig going Thunderbolt?

I used a MacBook Pro from 2016, i7, 16gb RAM ... nothing special.

until yesterday I had all ram slots populated, removed 2 sticks this morning to test if this would change something - but regarding speed and processing power it changed almost nothing. slightly faster boot into osx maybe.

they removed the cpu tab in the properties of Ableton live in version 10. I guess this is because nobody uses single core anymore and u need a multicore machine to use live (properly).

i was referring to the Ableton CPU monitor. system profiler stats will show 95% cpu usage at the same time.

did you read my former post #476 in this thread? for me using the drivers from the CD delivered with the cartridge did the trick AFTER removing all thunderbolt related stuff from the system I installed before. check the link I posted.

The Apollo is a PCIe 1.0 x1 device so it won't get any faster. Audio does not require more than the 250 MB/s allowed by the PCIe 1.0 x1 bandwidth.

The Thunderbolt devices USB (15ec) and NHI (15eb) are behind the Thunderbolt upstream bridge and do not report link speed. You are not using those devices anyway.

Your problem is not bandwidth. It might be latency. Thunderbolt has more latency than a direct PCI connection.

Did you connect the jumper on the Thunderbolt header cable? The device needs to appear in the Windows Thunderbolt software before you can use it in macOS.

Again to make everything clear before I buy a UAD Apollo X. If I connect a UAD Apollo X or Twin MK2 with Thunderbolt 3 to the Titan Rige without this adaptor, does the UAD work or not?

are you on 144.00.00 bootrom ?, because prior bootrom are notoriously bad at reporting pcie configuration and speed, all this got fixed in 144.00.00
