....make a bridge to pin 3 and 5 (or 1 and 3 .. 1 is with arrow) install open core 0.5.7 with config and acpi SSDT-TBOLT3.aml

After several unsuccessful attempts to get my MP 5.1 to recognize a flashed Titan Ridge in slot4 using recommended EFI/OC (from this forum), i decided to remove all other cards and reboot - And to my surprise, Titan Ridge was recognized as a TB3 card !!!

It turned out that whenever I insert the Sonnet 4x USB3 Card in slot 3, Titan Ridge is not recognized (system info says there are no TB drivers loaded)... as soon as i remove it, TR is properly recognized!

But, even when it gets recognized and shows up as a TB3 card in system info (and Thunderbolt and PCI tabs), i couldn’t get any TB3 devices to establish a connection (tried with Apollo TB3, RME TB2>TB3, different cables, no luck!)... And when i plugged in a TB hard drive enclosure, it worked but showed up as USB3, not TB (system info still shows no devices connected under Thunderbolt).

Any pointers what could be wrong, why a card in slot3 impacts what is slot4? and more importantly why no TB devices are able to establish a connection even when Titan Ridge is properly recognized as TB3 card???

Thanks!

Thanks IndioX, if by « implement the SSDT file in OC » you mean that i need to put SSDT under ACPI and reference it in config.plist, that’s been already done since the beginning of my tests with no success.. and yes i tried warm reboots again without success.

What i find strange is why having a USB3 card in slot3 is impacting the TB card in slot4!

In any case, thanks for everyone who tried helping out, but i am getting at the end of my patience with this project, I’ll just accept that TB doesn’t work in my MP 5.1 for whatever reason...

i have single NVMe PCIe cards (angelbird wings and aqua kyro ) in slot 3
and no problem with

also not my one cMP with the alpine inside and the wingsMX2 in slot 3

so do a replug your TB3 device before warmboot !?!

Guys, what about the Alpine Range? Will it work just like a Titanium Ridge? Is there a firmware for this card?
The Titan Ridge in Ukraine is very rare, found only the Alpine ridge for sale. And with Ebay now it’s hard to get a package... :(

Other users have shown the Titan Ridge card to have a conflict with Sonnet USB 3.1 and USB 3.2 cards, but not with Sonnet USB 3.0 cards.

You may find the article attached, 3.3V CH341a Signal Output Modification, helpful in verifying the voltage.

I managed to flash a Titan Ridge without changing my flasher to 3.3V and it worked (tested successful post-flashing from terminal), but it still doesn’t recognize any attached TB devices - Could that be the reason? Should i modify my flasher to 3.3V and re-flash it again?

Yes i have OC working fine, can see boot screen with RX580 and have h/w acceleration, and i can see the Titan Ridge in System Info (under TB and PCI devices) but nothing i attach to it gets recognized, every after warm boots as someone recommended...

did you try with open core ?

Thanks I don't see well the pin to plug to tes t if 3,3v

which thunderbolt devices are plugged into the titan card ?

I tried with an UA Apollo Twin X (TB3), and with a RME UFX+ (TB2), same result -> not recognized... It could be related to my system, but can't figure out what is wrong.

It's worth noting that after flashing TR with an unmodified flasher, I could successfully verify the flashed firmware is correct (using the turmoil command in the guide) - But could it have blown something else, which could explain why it doesn't recognize connected TB devices?

The EEPROM programming tool in your photos look very similar to the one I have. Except I use a different connector board for attaching the clip. I am not sure if this makes any difference in functionality, properly not though. I repeatedly flashed and verified different rom versions to my Titan Ridge card with this unmodified set-up, after measuring the voltage between pin 1 and 5 to be a little under V3.3 The card is working fine, tested with video through-put from RX580 to a Thunderbolt connected LG UltraFine 5K display.

At the moment nothing special besides of the fact that a Alpine Ridge seems to be the better solution for a MacPro4.1/5.1.
More Debugging and more testing is necessary... but it seems that the problem on some rigs is the initialization process,
which the Titan Ridge Card handles completely different then it goes with an Alpine Ridge...

Did you use Rev 1.0 or Rev 2.0 of the Alpine Ridge card?
