Agree with @Silencio and @Don Quixote and @daneoni when they say that it would be a real shame if you were to depart from the thread.

Personally, I love the idea of womne's football, - above all, I love how it is much more respected and supported now, which is superb in itself, but also as a future role model, the old "what you don't see, you can't be" - but don't know enough to be able to comment intelligently on it.

However, I am delighted at the success of the Lionesses, at the exposure (and quality) of the women's World Cup, and cheer to the successes of the Arsenal Women's team, who have been consistently excellent for a number of years.
@Lioness~ was/IS our expert!

When it comes to women's football I am guilty as many others, my interest only peeks when there is a major tournament on such as the Euro's, the World Cup or the champions league. I have no interest in this nations competition. I haven't even followed the men's version.

Even with men's football, my interest only comes from the sport back pages of the tabloid papers because in those sports pages they report about the most recent issues. I have no interest in chasing for news therefore if it's not in the papers I do not go looking for it and unfortunately the football sections of the tabloid press are not interested in women's football because it gets virtually no mention at all unless it's a major sporting event.

That is why I comment and make posts the way I do in here because it is purely based on the most recent invents in football that I am reading about in the papers. The Women's Euro was prominent in the football press and thus we talked about it, same with the Women's world cup but when those two major competitions finished, the football media went back to it's normal routine of reporting about men's football and thus so did we.

Could we make an effort to talk more about women's football, yes we could BUT like I said, I do not go chasing for news articles so I can talk about them. If it's not in the tabloid papers then I don't talk about it.

A good point in question is Messi winning the Balon D'ore again. It was all over the back pages of the sports pages but the women's version hardly got a mention.

The only reason why I know the name of women's football Man United and England goalkeeper Mary Earps is not because of the World cup but because of the football media trying to make Nike look bad by them not making England goalkeeper shirts with her name on it. That story ran for weeks in the papers hence why I know her name so well. This is what we need from the sporting media, for them to persistently focus on the women's game as much as they do with the men's game.

I do try to watch women's football more; I've been to Highbury and Wembley to watch women's games. There simply isn't the interest yet, it takes time for things to build. But the fact that attendances at women's games are increasing massiveley, shows things are moving quite fast. And that teams like Arsenal are now hosting women's games at the main stadia, not some dreary field somewhere out of town.

According to the sports pages, it would appear United could be heading for a goalkeeping problem come January because Onana has decided to return to the Cameroon team which had previously kicked him out due to a bust up with the teams head coach. The problem being the AFCON tournament starts in January which means he will be missing for many games and many more if Cameroon were to get to the final. That would mean United would have to rely on their number 2 Altay Bayindir who has not played a game yet.

It makes me wonder if not being in the national team was one of the deciding factors in buying Onana because the club would know that he be available for all club games. He has now decided to return to the national team so it makes me wonder if the question was put to him 'Are you planning on returning to the national team any time soon?' because the club would have known AFCON is coming up soon and his national team are in it.

ETH will now be forced to play Altay Bayindir before January because he needs to get game time experience if the club is going to lose Onana due to international duty.

I don’t think ETH will need to worry too much about Utd come January 😀

It will be interesting to see what sort of reception Rice gets at The London Stadium. Hopefully he will be made to feel welcome. He was a good servant for the club.

As for the game itself, I’m not too bothered if we progress. In some ways better to go out and not have the extra games to play.

If he plays do you think some of the West Ham players will go rough on him with tackles as a way to tell he should not have left the club or something along those lines?

I doubt it. But I’ve got a feeling he will only play for a bit. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if both sides dropped a few first teamers.

I would be surprised if Rice actually takes to the pitch - at least, at the start.

Rather, I would expect to see him on the bench.

It’s probably Ben White you’d have rather not seen on the bench as he scored an own goal!
Ouch.

I wasn't paying heed.

What on earth was he thinking of? Or, was he thinking at all?

Those remaining revenants........from what was our antique and formerly quite porous defence really need to be persuaded that departure to pastures new has considerable merits.

Yes, two nil to West Ham, and - had Ramsdale not made a superb save - it could well have been three nil.

Arsenal are ragged, and, this also shows the old lack of strength in depth; what would we all give for Manchester City's bench?

Having said that, clearly West Ham are on form tonight, whereas we - equally obviously - are not.

Still plenty of time for us to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
No, I think you'll wrap this one up fairly easily, unfortunately, (unfortunately for us, that is).

3-0 now so I guess you are right.

Yes, this looks as though it will be one of those very embarrassing nights.

We look as though we are completely adrift, off the pace, just not present, let alone focussed or hungry.

At this rate, (and the invisible Kai is on that pitch somewhere), we could leak another goal or two.

West Ham are up for it (and there was a comment on how dapper Moyes looks, too), and our scalp is there for the taking.

And, you know, I think that the only reason Rice was introduced (it woud have been easier all round had he remained on the bench) was to shore up the defence in order to plug what was in danger of becoming a veritable flood (of West Ham) goals.

Now, while I suspect that Arteta would have been quite content to let the Carabao Cup go, - one could live with a bog standard defeat of one or two nil, - while letting some of those who normally inhabit the bench an outing - but he couldn't be seen to somehow not respond to (and attempt to put a halt to) what was threatening to become a thrashing.

Now, I am at something of a loss to understand just exactly why I poured out a nice glass of dark beer from Germany.

I must've thought we were going to win, or something.

At no point have we looked coherent in attack, or given the slightest sense that we threatened to score.

A well deserved win for West Ham.

And, if we hadn't been able to summon Rice, we could have leaked more goals.

To be clear, I'm not blaming Ramsdale - he did as well as he could have, (and made a few excellent saves, and, personally, I think that he should have started more often this season - I'm not convinced that Raya - who has also been rather error-prone - is any better, bar being able to play, 1): with his feet, and 2): from the back), but Arsenal were poor.

And Kai was beyond anonymous.
